A can lasts me between 2 days and a week, depending on what's coming in. To be fair: it's a bicycle shop, so we need MUCH less than a car shop, but in turn, repair cost should kinda level it out? Actually asking. The last time I had any experience in a car shop is 20 years ago, and I had no idea how much of anything was used.

Fun Fact belonging to the Airbag - thing: I'm a mechanic from Germany and work at an Audi/VW dealer. In the official VW diagnosis software (called ODIS; don't know if US-Dealers use the same and if there are the same options available 'cause of leagle reasons or else), there is a programm for activating all Airbags and pyrotechnic Parts (like the tensioners for the seatbelts, the charges for blowing the positiv battery terminal etc.) wich is meant for the case, that you get a car, that was in a accident, wich should have deployed the Airbags, but some didnt' open. So you could activate them before starting to work at the interior to avoid getting hurt by an Airbag, that is instable, becaus the ignitor was triggered without going off, wich means that it could get off at any time. Hadn't had such a case in person, but know the programm exists, 'cause I stumbled upon it, while searching for an other test-programm.

thing is that clip was filmed in iran. i know that damn car. saipa saina. two things could've been the cause of that: 1- the mechanic didnt know a single word of english. most mechanics dont even have any degrees they just f*cked around and found out how to fix cars 2- bad wiring/programming on the car. i'd say its pretty common cuz i remember a time when saipa had cars without reverse gears. like you could put the stick shift into reverse but the gear just wasnt there and that thing wasnt going anywhere and i doubt a similar diagnosis software exists for these cars. like saipa (like iran khodro) doesnt care about the consumer. they just make a 1-ton frame put a modified version of ford festiva's 4 banger and call it a day

The wisdom in Germany is that the best in shape tires are supposed to be on the rear axle because understeer is safer than oversteer. Remember: You might be able to controll a car that oversteers with a little rain, but aunty Gertrud can't even parallel park correctly.
@83icecube4 ай бұрын
This is correct. I used to give skid courses. Best tires at the back. The biggest problem with old tires isn't grip. old tires with low profile actually performe better in dry conditions. It's the ability to handle water. When does that become a problem? At higher speed. So you need to choose between understeer or oversteer at 60 mph. You want to choose understeer. Because at that speed you're 90% of the time driving in a straight line and so no need to steer and secondly. Very few people can correct an oversteer at 60 mph. It's just done before you even realise.

Heard a story of a guy who needed a specialist tool and so he called up Snap-On and they had a truck roll over. And the guy steps out and says "hey man," before the tradesman cuts him off. "Shut up, you're not my friend, I'm not buying anything. I don't want you to show me anything. Just give me my goddamn tool." So the salesman stares at him for a while before nodding slowly and gets the tool, and the tradesman asks if he's got change for a hundred. "Of course," says the Snap-On representative, before dropping a coin. "Oops, let me get that," and without saying anything else. He reaches down with a set of Snap-On pliers and picks the coin up by grabbing just the edge of it's flat face. The tradesman gets his wallet out and starts pulling more bills out, while the representative looks confused. "You've given me enough for your tool." "You're a motherfucker you know that? Give me the damn pliers." "They come in two sizes." "Of fucking course there are."

Some require more than others of course, but the GE90-94B engines on a Boeing 777-200 can use 8 to 12 quarts a day. Because on that particular engine there's a design flaw in the oil system pressurisation around the main engine bearings. So it starts leaking oil during descent. Back in 1987, when I was a 17 year old girl, I was driving a rusted out Chevy Chevette. The floor pan was so far gone that I'd pulled the stinking, rotten carpet and I could clearly see the ground beneath my feet while I was driving. No lie, it felt more like driving a motorcycle. It kept breaking down and my uncle kept rescuing me and cleaning out the carburetor. (We hadn't figured out that the pollution control had turned to powdered carbon and that was randomly plugging out the tiny holes.) He got sick of the cycle and taught me how to clean out the carburetor myself. So one night I'm broken down on the side of a Wyoming highway in the middle of a massive sleet storm. I jump out, grab my tools, pop the hood, and and get to work. Some good-hearted man pulls up to rescue me. I tell him I'm fine and keep working by the light of my flashlight. The look on his face as I cleaned and reassembled the carburetor, gathered up my shit, and slammed the hood shut still makes me grin. This little 5'2" girl played it cool as a cucumber. I thanked him for stopping, jumped in the car, and drove away. Honestly, ALL I knew about cars was how to clean a carburetor. That's literally all I had in my tool bag. But he didn't know that and damn did I look pro in the moment. The car finally died when I tried to turn right at a redlight and the rusted axil snapped in half. I still miss her. She had a nothing engine, but was so lightweight that she ZOOOOMED when you just tapped the gas and got insane mpg. The old cars really were just built different. So easy to understand.

This is the first video of them I’ve seen and will definitely subscribe. When she mentioned needing all four brakes I died. I’m definitely showing my mom that part of the video. What would have cost her or me let’s say MAX $170 for all 4 brakes to be done ended up costing me $750 ( which includes giving my mechanic friend $150 as a thank you). When I say she ignored her brakes needing replaced till they fell off. I’m not exaggerating she LITERALLY drove her van until the rear brakes fell apart while driving. Then continued to drive with no rear brakes and one caliper zip tied up to keep it from scraping the rotor. Not just to get home but for an entire month. When I decided I’m fixing her van. The zip tie holding the caliper up broke on the way which was 3 blocks. The rear tire seized up as I backed it in the spot to get it fixed. So my friend/mechanic was super sweet and not only fixed it asap FOR FREE and I just by the parts. But also while he was working over night as a tow truck driver between calls. I’m so grateful and thankful for him and his wife most definitely. She ended up needing both front and rear brakes replaced, four new rotors,and 2 rear calipers replaced. The old ones (brakes, rotors, and calipers) looked destroyed from her driving like that. We had a serious talk about her car maintenance and safety.

When I worked at GM we were allotted 2 cans of brake cleaner per bay. As for Snap-On I'll never forget the first time they pulled into the parking lot. I was still in college then training on steering and suspension. Dude I was working with that day immediately stuck out his arm like he was protecting a child in a car accident and said don't do it you need to stay away from that truck😂. I then looked around the shop and there were 4 guys out of 12 that didn't run to that Snap-On truck. My Grandfather was working there as well and hollered listen to Delmar about that damn truck they'll put you in debt that you'll never get out of. Then there were guys coming back in the garage trying to sell older Snap-On tools they owned to be able to buy the "new model". I learned right then and there to be happy with my Craftsman tool box with the thousands of craftsman tools I had inside it. I get that today is different but back in 2005 you could easily get by using Craftsman.

In Europe, you always put the best tires on the back (if there is a big difference between them). The reason is that (especially under rain) it is always much easier to get the car back on tracks when the front wheels are slipping than when it is the back ones. Then you only change 2 tires, put the new ones on the back, and bring one the used one from the back to the front. Car manufacturers are working hard to make all their cars understeering instead of oversteering for security reasons.

@@AsmodeusMictian Not an expert either but airbags are very expensive so in many cases it's not worth it to replace all of them instead of just buying a new car. Also, I believe it could be very difficult to even get more than 1-2 airbags as an amateur because they contain explosives so you might get a knock of the door asking what you're planning to do with all that if you buy enough to fix the car. I guess mechanics don't have that problem unless they buy an insane amount though so it only applies for amateurs. Still, not worth it to replace all the airbags in most cases.
