I had the great fortune of seeing the mother and a few of the kids in a store in the town where they live in 2009. They are incredible! Their energy is one of love and kindness. The kids were well behaved. I tried not to stare but remember the little Asian boy looking at me out of the corner of his eye while playing with a toy truck. I saw each child was allowed one toy at the dollar store and seemed very happy with it. They parked beside me and the mother was so strong placing each one in the van. I smiled and the Asian boy smiled back. Incredible people. It is their energy that is amazing! I can't explain it. They have a calming effect.

I remember when I first saw the Johnston Family on 20/20! I even watched their TLC show a couple of times! The five kids have grown up a lot since then! They do a great job of talking about their experience as a family with dwarfism in a positive light!

I disagree with something they are doing. I appreciate that they want their children to understand that the world is not typically built for very short people, BUT I think you should be comfortable in your own home! it is your home! I am the opposite...I am tall and I have all of my kitchen cabinets custom make and raised up a few inches. Why should I hurt my back because some Chinese manufacturer said a typical counter is 32 inches high? You should be comfortable in your home...period!

My point was across the board concerning comfort in the home. It is an analogy between my family (which is tall) and theirs which is shorter than average. I make the point because when you build a home you are advised to remain in the averages. I do not. Why should anyone be uncomfortable in their own home? They have plenty of changes to be uncomfortable elsewhere in the world (friends houses, relatives, public places, etc...).

We know what genes make people dwarfs, but you can't do anything about it. If two little people have kids, each baby has a 75% chance of also being a little person. Knowing what causes dwarfism doesn't mean you can do anything about it.

Yes, you are right. 75% of dwarfism gene. But, you forgot about another 25% of possibility to have a normal size kid. I know a couple with dwarfism who had a kid with a normal standard of height. She was 5'2" when she completed 18 years old which is a normal height.

It's actually human to find them cute. As animals our mothering instincts react to certain shapes specifically smaller things and rounded things to replicate the size of a baby and the chubby appearance of a baby. That's why we would find a very chubby kitten cuter than a sleek, slim cat. So little people having compacted muscles and consequently a chubbier appearance partnered with being shorter than the average human being will often be seen as cute and it's perfectly normal!
