Believe it or not, I used to say I forgot , but since I watched that video, I stopped using it since then! But later on, I heard natives using it widely !!!? Which left me so confused 🤔 thank god, this lesson reassured me again so I can use it from now on 😊 thanks again for your outstanding lessons Liza 🎉

It is useless to consider all these tiny mistakes, to witch this series of videos is dedicated, because it is just impossible to remember all of them. They will be acquired in a natural way with practice. It is rather a mockery then the materials for studying.

Where did Venya get this misconception from? I vaguely remember reading or hearing that one should use 'left' instead of 'forgot' in this context, so I doubt that this advice is just a figment of his imagination.
@ackjulia694911 ай бұрын
I got it too, like all non native speakers. It seems that you are wrong when you say some phrases. At the hotel I made the same “mistake” I said Oh I forgot my key in the room. And earlier I said Oh I forgot my key in my number (room) say that it’s a typical mistake , because in Russia we say a number instead of a room.
@dark6.6.611 ай бұрын
No clue at all. One of my native languages is Russian as well and I've never thought you have to use "left" instead of "forgot" despite my English level is just intermediate but not even close to his C2 level he seems to have. We say "i forgot smth somewhere" in Russian as well and i heard native English speakers say the same so I'm surprised Venya screwed up again at such a minor and clearly understandable thing and he didn't learn this correctly in fcking 8 years or how much he lives there in the US.
@anstydye60511 ай бұрын
Actually, I came across this rule in one of the textbooks, SpeakOut Intermediate, to be precise. There is a rule in one of the units that says-use leave when mention the place where you forgot something

I appreciate Kevin and Lisa's work and I do believe in the accuracy of their American-English study materials. However, I have finished reading the whole Grammar Book by Michael Swan (British English), and "leave something somewhere" is exactly what is stated in the book. In a nutshell, English usage can vary by region and country. That is the case in British English, but not in American English. A phrase is supposed to be considered "right" when it is commonly used in a society regardless of the academic grammatical rules. Thank you, Lisa.
@LearnAcademicEnglish11 ай бұрын
To me that rule makes no sense. Why can't we forget something somewhere? Another problem is that to leave something somewhere can be intentional, whereas forget something somewhere always shows that it was accidental.
@kingo_friver11 ай бұрын
You see how inaccurate it is, and still even now, you do believe in the accuracy of their American-English study materials. I'm sorry I don't quite get it. I mean, hey, wake up!

Well in this video, clearly, to say 'police is', is incorrect
@EDP250011 ай бұрын
@@kingo_friver Read my comment carefully and you will get it. In American English, "forget something somewhere" is commonly used and acceptable and this is a proven fact. Even Michael Swan is not in a position to create British grammatical rules and teach British people how to speak correct English, but rather point out what is mostly used by British people, not by Americans. Similarly, Americans say: "You'd better go to the hospital for treatment" while British people say: "You'd better go to hospital for treatment." Let me tell you something we're all here to learn correct American English. If you want to be a critic, go with Dave. In short, take lessons with your favorite English teachers.
