As an apartment dweller myself, I find your comments about owning so many books to be serious food for thought. Sarah so sad for you. A chance to re-examine life but how difficult that is. So glad you are OK and you have the strength and energy to move forward. This is so hard and hard things teach us so much when looking back. I would encurage you to keep a journal if you don't already. Not to write great thorughts but just a few sentences as you move through these times. I wish you strength and find comfort in the small things. value the support you find and give it back where you can.

We’re renters now, but 10, no 15 (omg), years ago, we moved in a bit of a hurry and had to reduce our book collection from 14 or 15 book cases to 7. It was a wrench at the time but we rarely miss any of those books. I’m a long time fan of “Your Money or Your Life”-living under our means doesn’t free us from all money-related worries (hello inflation) but it provides wiggle room of all kinds. I’m glad you have that wiggle room and the possibility of eventually moving back into your apartment. Big life changes like this are hard and unsettling in unexpected ways that can echo longer than you’d expect. Be kind to yourselves. - Heather

Sarah, how awful for you all, it must be so stressful to be displaced all of a sudden like that and to be without your home. I hope one of the places comes through for you and you can start to feel settled again soon. I understand you though, i recently couldn't read for months as my loved one was very ill in hospital and all of my thoughts and energy just went there, sometimes extreme things are happening in people's lives and we end up without any attention to be able to devote to books. My brain was too busy and I was just constantly over exhausted. The good news is they're always there waiting for us though, so when you feel able to they'll welcome you home. Please take care and also try to be kind to yourself and don't beat yourself up about anything. The important thing is that you're safe and well.
