Ambi shooting never had a practice in IDF, I guess because it's just much harder to train and still have disadvantages. And it's important for the army built from all the citizens, not contract baised. I mean, they have overall about 1 million soldiers from 10 million population. It's like you will take about 35 millions of americans to the army. I'm sure not everybody of them will learn fast, will be motivated and etc. Because of that IDF trying to learn their soldiers with easy to learn hard to master tactics.

After this incident the soldier was interviewed by Israeli news. Upon killing the second terrorist he moves out of the way to the left. He said his legs then gave out and he collapsed in a seated position, pulled security on that open point and waited for the rest of his team. His team arrived, cleared the rest of that back room and then extracted him. He is a member of Sayeret Yahalom which is the special forces detachment of the IDF Combat engineers. Worth noting combat engineers in the IDF complete mandatory IDF infantry training prior to moving on to their “engineering” training component. Sayeret Yahalom conducts infantry training, engineering training and then their “special operations” training consisting of a variety of training modules. I believe their pipeline is about 14-16 months though I am not positive.

Every combat role gets some level of infantry training. However, typically when you move to your primary role, that is your focus. Him also being a reservist means the training he does have is limited to their reservist training schedule (most likely)…thanks for the info.

@@Forward_Concepts to add to the above & to the comment by @DimaEzPony - reservists here means something somewhat different to reservists in the US (and generally around the world). Reservists here are individuals who served their 3 years, got certified to some role, and were later passed on to the reserves. Said reservists continue to train annually (the frequency of said training is dependant on the unit said individuals belong to. The 'special' the unit - the more [and better] training their personnel will do), Meaning - reservists are usually decently trained (that varies across units. However, generally, from my personal experience - it holds true, at least across A & B tier units) especially those belong to some special unit as the one in the video. As for the switching shoulder tactic - except for some special units - the IDF don't teach it at all. It requires some training (as i'm sure you know) to get right, hence (i assume) it generally isn't taught

Shooting ambidextrous or from opposite shoulder is not something the IDF trains their infantry in. It’s definitely an advanced shooting capability, but the IDF infantry only trains pretty basic and somewhat mediocre rifle fundamentals, and doesn’t get as much proper range time as one would imagine after boot camp. - former IDF paratrooper/sniper, current reservist
@Forward_Concepts
@Forward_Concepts 2 ай бұрын
I figured as much. However, I disagree that it’s advanced…it truly isn’t. Without even doing it you can imagine how simple the task is. I would argue it’s more difficult to transition pistol from strong to weak to shoot one handed…which is trained.
@guitarthrasher81
@guitarthrasher81 2 ай бұрын
@@Forward_Concepts Getting guys with very minimal rifle training to perform decently with regular shooting fundamentals is hard enough, and standards are barely met from my experience and what I’ve seen. So I think it would be a very tall order to incorporate ambi shooting and expect decent results. Again these guys don’t even train with pistol, they zero M4A1s and train basic courses of fire not even monthly id say quarterly
@privateprivate4315

I’m hoping one of the changes this conflict brings in a raising of standards and mission readiness. I exited the IDF in 2007 after serving with the paratroopers as well. I don’t recall it being that bad back then but perhaps my memory is leaning on the highlights. The IDF would also benefit from a true professional NCO corps imo.

I think its mainly a conscript army thingy and they were trained years ago 5-10+ years, outdated syllabus lol. My country has mandatory military service too. 2 years, used to be 3 years during my dad's time. We don't train ambidextrous shooting during my service in 2007 as a marine. Even during my 12 years of reservist duty, no shoulder switching. Instructors do teach(more like show) but we don't actively train/practice it. At best some of us will switch shoulders if the situation demands it but again its not muscle memory and we don't practice it at the range. Moreover our new rifles that rolled out during my service was a bullpup design which had no addon mechanisms to support left handed or left shoulder shooting. Like the IDF, most conscripts don't even have sidearm/pistol. My batch was an exception cos we got activated for actual Ops, had to train and equip P226s. I do know the regular force does practice ambidextrous shooting, in the range and in battle movements etc. They were also the first to receive deflectors or upgraded models or they use different rifles that us. However in recent years ambidextrous shooting has become more prominent in training mainly due to the focus on urban warfare. My nephews and younger cousins serving now do practice shoulder switching mainly during urban ops but it is not a requirement at the range. Its still a pretty new thing for conscripts. Do US soldiers have to shoot both methods at the range for training?

Hey. The guy in the video is part of the Yahalom combat engineering unit. The unit is in charge of "special" combat engineering solutions for infantry and special forces units. The unit is considered a special forces unit and selects and trains its members accordingly. Specifically, he's an EOD tech who trains on clearing structures together with infantry/sf. He got to the balcony as a result of a grenade that was thrown at the clearing element after they got to the 2nd floor of the building, the element went downstairs while he went to the balcony. He's actually demonstrating what he was taught in training. The corners/openings are considered as points of domination. therefore, you clear the room from the opening, then advance to the next opening/corner etc etc. Just take note that the walls are a bit thicker here, 4/8 inch cinderblocks useally.

As such, Im guessing that the chances of getting separated from a group of people that doesnt know you is higher then a one that does. this is not the first time an EOD tech was separated from his unit during an engagement. This time, luckily, he managed to fight his way back. RIP Alex mashvitzky, 1987-2009.

I doubt many special operators would actualy have the foresight to switch shoulders after eating a granade. I think he gave up the angle because he was tring to look for a way out of the balcony probably, feels like he reacted to contact and ran into the balcony without knowing it was a balcony and he ended up traping himself. Again, he probably tought "shit I'm alone, better to get back to my team" but found himself cornered. Maybe this did do him good in the end because It seems like the first dude got baited out of their room, he might have looked and seen nobody there holding that angle.

its insane to me that people don't switch shoulders up. I have to assume they're so psychologically locked in that they dont dare take the rifle out of immediate action, even for a second

Honestly when I was first taught it I wasn’t sure about it. But given the actual tempo in which we normally have to move I became a believer. With the abundance of evidence out there now, it won’t be long before it is common practice.

Actually the grenade landed in the rubble in front of him. Think the most of the shrapnel missed him because of the grenade landing in between a bunch of stuff. Probably got some shrapnel, cuncoussion and some type of internal blast damage. The second target actually seems that his AK jammed or maybe jerked because of a hit.

I agree we need to change the meta to allow for shoulder switching. Although when do you believe that shoulder switch should occur? At every corner and threshold? My only thoughts are if you are in a long hallway with multiple rooms, you would be constantly switching back and forth

Users choice. Check out the short I just posted. The ideal time is when you think you can, this comes down to be proficient and comfortable …in his case definitely before he enters the space between himself and the threat…first you identify it needs to happen..that should be well before you get there.

Shoulder switching is just not a thing in real world CQB with enemies actively trying to kill you (aside from holding on a hallway for an extended period or similar). No one is as fast or accurate, and especially not as smooth with manipulating their weapon, on their support side as they are with their strong side. Sacrificing your offensive capabilities in exchange for more defensive advantages, is almost always a loser and generally not the most advantageous mindset for one to have, either. FYI These opinions aren’t really mine, they’re just anecdotal data points taken from years of listening and speaking to many Iraq vets who were assaulters in the Army/Navy SMUs in Iraq in early GWOT years (2003-2008) where all of their long held beliefs and theories were tested in the CQB war lab night after night. Also I’m not stirring the pot or saying anything you don’t already know or have thought about I’m sure. Just throwing it out there homie🤙

All good. Rather then people typically saying what is or isnt applicable in theory …I try to do my best to show you in real time with real information how the rounds could have been delivered to the threat faster. In this case and many cases you are quite literally at point blank range..the sacrifice for your ability to apply marksmanship at 3-7 yards (CQB distance) is the users problem.

Wheb talking about a shoulder swap its usually a half swap, you just bring the stock to the other shoulder but not change the arms, it gives massive advantages exposure wise.

@@Forward_Concepts lol literally right after I wrote that I thought to myself, “Actually I probably should’ve added that at very close range, very much like in this video, the accuracy argument I just made doesn’t really apply since you could literally look over the optic and burn that guy down at that range... but oh well” I will say I can’t believe that this dude went inside the structure solo like that. Wish we had context as to WHY he chose to do that. Really glad it worked out for him and all, but dang! I took solo initiative in a gunfight in Iraq to flank the enemy in the backyard of a house, and got shot in the chest/spine for my troubles. It’s one of those things that when it works out, you look badass. But when it doesn’t, everyone’s like “Bro why’d you go it alone like that?” Lol

@Kinetic_Concepts1 Its sad that we live in such a reality that controlling parties in power can disrupt or silence any dissemination of neutral, helpful, non-biased data/information/etc, simply because its perceived interpretation conflicts with said controlling parties narrative. That people must be conditioned to who is "good" and who is "bad, is incredibly dangerous. Unfortunately, this is embedded in our DNA and has been demonstrated throughout history. But, we persist, and those who are meant for your channel will find it, like I did, and we'll support it and share it, thus keeping the pressure applied and momentum sustained. Thanks for the content 🤘.
