I voted for this video, so I was happy you did this one first:) After all you can do whatever you want on your own channel, I'll watch every video because I like your way of talking and thinking. I admire your coolness about this situation of moving twice.. wow! And you even managed to upload a new video... I'm seriously impressed. I wonder what solutions you came up with about the surface clutter on the table, because I have the same issue.. (or is it just discipline haha) Greetings from Vienna :-*

You should never block a window or a door with furniture, it is a terrible decoration mistake. Windows and doors have a function, should not be blocked. It looks terrible also. Same applies to furniture against walls.

I'm sorry you had to go through all this. I hope the kids were able to stay at the same school. My biggest gain from decluttering is that I have a place for everything. When I come home there is a place for my shoes, my sunglasses, my hat, jacket all with easy access. Straightening up takes so much less time. I've said before I'll never be a minimalist but my house is much more manageable.

When I was growing up we had TVs in every room but as an adult I’ve only ever had one in the living room. It’s nice because if we (spouse & I) really wanted to we can just use our laptops or iPads to watch something in whatever room we want without having to have additional TVs. My grandma even had one in her kitchen and I admit I do like to watch KZbin sometimes when I’m making dinner!

You have dealt with this transition like a PRO! I am sorry it didn't work out, but every cloud has a silver lining :) We're in the UK and we have TV's in every bedroom (we homeschool from home) so the bigger teens use the tv for videos or shows relating to work, they also use them for game time or movies etc. We have a tiny home and only 1 small livingroom area (10 PEOPLE in less than 800sqft) with 3 bedrooms. I wasn't able to take care of it because through all this time I suffered complications after a hand injury. It made me fell into depression cause I used to work creating with my hands. Such a bad period in my life. I decided to come back to college, so I could get a less physical job (I'm in my early 20s). Tomorrow is my first day of classes. Before this day, I really wanted to get rid of all the clutter that was holding me back. I still have boxes of things to donate but I'd still call it a success. I'm trying to downsize our stuff as we pack to move, just so the other end isn't as stressful - you clearly demonstrate how that works in practice! I'm in Australia and we personally have one TV, though the kids both have tablets now that they do watch TV on before dinner and on the weekends. I know some people who have a TV in their bedroom but I greatly dislike that idea, and will never let my kids have TVs in their rooms. When we move we'll be getting a second TV so we can have a grown ups only living room library TV area and they can have their kids arts and crafts toys TV area (and no more TV in the kitchen/dining space yay!!)

The last time I moved from a beautiful log cabin, I missed it so much. Now I think I want to move to the beach, but what if I miss this house? Since you were forced out? OMG unbelievable! Thank you for showing how real life can get in the way sometimes. While I don't aspire to be a minimalist per se, I am in the process of decluttering 60 years of stuff. One of the things you mentioned in a previous video was having a memory box. What a great idea and one I had never thought of before. So now it's my goal to have just 1 box dedicated to my most precious treasures instead of having them scattered throughout in random boxes and drawers. As for TVs....my husband would have one in every room if I let him! Instead, we have 1 in the family room and 1 outside by his BBQ.

For the “ghost doors” problem: remove one of the hinge pins, bang on it outside with a hammer to bend it slightly, then reinsert. The slight bend will cause some resistance In the hinge so it doesn’t swing so freely. Do a second hinge if the door is particularly troublesome. (You may not want to do this since it is a rental, but I thought I would share it help any one who needed the info.)

Hallo from Germany! I think this was an awesome video, because it was real and relatable. Being Greek I can confirm that 20 years ago it was very common to have 2 or 3 TVs in every home, but nowadays there are many families in Greece that do not even own one TV. Especially younger people in Greece prefer to use their computers or their mobile phones instead of watching television. We as a family do not own a television and are not planning on buying one. Sending love to you and your family 🙂

You worked hard and it paid off! I have to be honest. Your messy looks a lot better than my clean. But I’m still new at this. I’m your fellow Hoosier. Being in Chicago is close to home. I hope you can settle there for a while until you find another forever home. Love and hugs to you and your very cute family❤❤❤❤

Thank-you for humanising minimalism ❤ I've got 8 small boxes, 2 carry-on bags + a bed to move to our next house, and it's nothing compared to the average home, but 100% it gets messy sometimes, with life and kids 🤷♀️ it's still a big job to clean up, but not a BIG BIG job, like the average quantity of stuff in a home.
