I love your style, Vera! As a minimalist who doesn’t want to live without color, I tend to decorate with soft blues and greens, and I love the way you’ve used some blush in your space as well. It’s all beautiful! My apartment is close to the same size, but it only has 1 bedroom. Yours is a more practical use of space. I LOVE that the toilet is separate, you don’t have to worry about “spraying” when you flush! The balcony will be a fun project. I’m glad you found this place ✌🏼🌱

Thank you so much!! Yes, our old apartment was a little bit bigger, but close to the same size, and it also only had 1 bedroom. I have to say, I really like having a bunch of smaller rooms as opposed to two large rooms (living and bedroom). Somehow it makes everything much easier to decorate and organize. And yes, I agree about the spraying hahaha. Thinking of having a toilet in the bathroom always has kind of weirded me out in a way, because the bathroom is supposed to be where you get clean. :) So I also really like having them separate. But if you clean and disinfect it regularly, I'm sure it's no problem. :)

Your home is very warm and inviting. I love what you have done with less stuff and yet it still feels complete. I am trying to resist the urge to BUY the things you have in your home that I don't have in my home and instead think "What do I already HAVE that could serve the same purpose. (Like the ladder holding the throws) My first instinct is "Oh I need to get one of those..." Which defeats the entire purpose of this video right? Same thing with the ads and sponsorships. I have to resist the urge to purchase because you are encouraging us to live with what we already HAVE😊 Not buy this thing to fix your problems

Beautiful home! I love the simplicity, so serene. My own home has many more things. I love to decorate and use color, but like you i keep my bedroom very simple, with minimal decor and white bedding to make that space serene. Minimal doesn't mean white or light colors. Minimalist interior design is very similar to modern interior design and involves using the bare essentials to create a simple and uncluttered space. I grew up in a huge 3 story house with stuff and clutter in every room, 3 cars 2 motorcycles and a golf car + a huge garden with a lake and a small pond. Now I live in a 2 bedroom apartment, dont own a lot of stuff and live pretty simply, and I love it :)

Very nice place, it’s lovely! Growing up with built in closets, it’s different to see a place without them. Is there a reason why they don’t have them in the Netherlands? Just curious. Thank you!

Thanks Darren! :) Honestly, I don't really know why, but we just don't have them anywhere. I think it might be because it's a tiny country (and densely populated), so space is always limited. We try to make the most out of every inch of real estate space, just because we don't have it a lot. So they leave the whole 'shell' of the house open to maximize space, and then people can decide for themselves where they want closets or cupboards or things like that. We just don't really have the luxury of having a built-in wardrobe in your bedroom for example. So that might be part of the reason, though it's mostly conjecture on my part. (On a sidenote, I did learn that limited space in a densely populated country is why our stairs are such steep death-traps hahaha)

Vera, I particularly love how the flow of the hallway goes into the living room, that makes it feel really cozy and bigger, also placing the couch away from the wall does make it feel much larger and visually pleasing, putting things higher on the wall also is a great idea to make the place look larger and more interesting, you’ve done a great job with all the pops of color, the coral is my favorite, loved the apartment tour, can’t wait to see what you do with the balcony 🪴

Thanks Joan!! Yes, I love that too, about the hallway opening up into the living room. Actually this place used to have a very different layout, but the previous owners made it much more open. So the hallway used to be separated and there was a door opening up into the living room. So I'm very happy they did all that work opening it up haha, because it's so much nicer now.

I loved the living room. Especially the dining table and chairs and the Oak furniture. It’s very peaceful and welcoming. My mind was racing with ideas for your bedroom and office area and balcony! Aw thakn you so much!! Glad you enjoyed the tour :) The table I purchased at Leen Bakker, which I think only is available here in the Netherlands.. Even though it kind of looks like solid oak, it's actually oak veneer. So it wasn't that expensive at all. But I think you can't really tell haha. The chairs are actually really high quality, and the legs are made from solid wood, they are from Kave Home. I have no idea where that brand is from haha, or where it's available :) But I don't think it's specifically Dutch...

My favourite room is the office; the chair and table, the bookshelf and Totoro poster just combine to make what feels to me like a super cosy space. I really love the colour palate of your apartment in general, a wonderful example that proves that even minimalist aesthetics don't have to be all black white and grey. I was wondering, how does this new apartment compare to your previous one in terms of summer heat? I remember that your previous place would get very hot during the summer (as does my own home) so was curious to see if the new place is the same or much cooler.

I was really over the all greige myself... and I think there's so much room for color in a minimalist aesthetic. :) Also, I'm very happy to say that this apartment is MUCH cooler in the summer than our previous place. I honestly think it's like (at least) 10 degrees C cooler here. It's an absolute game-changer for me. :) Very, very, very grateful for this change. Hope you're keeping cool over there!

thank you so much!!! :) Yes, it the change in neighborhoods makes a world of difference. It's not exactly quiet here, it's still the city, but it's definitely more peaceful and a lot safer. It's also much cleaner, no more trash on the street everywhere. We're very grateful to have found this place :)

Thanks for the tour. It looks like a great space. Give the bathtub a go! You know what an integral part of Japanese culture the evening bath is. Also a cool (not cold) bath is a great way to bring down your temperature on hot summer evenings before bed. Also, yes - blackout curtains make a huge difference - great choice. And it is lovely to see Ganesha :)

An idea for the wall above your toilet Vera - mine is painted a soft blue and I have 3 ceramic swallows which are simply hooked over a nail. I have 1 large and 2 small in blue, green and aqua colours. I bought them from a gift shop in Funchal, Madeira (Loja Jacaranda) I love them as they remind me of my holiday there in 2018 ❤

I friggin' love you...but I needeed to visit you 50 years ago. As I age, I realize how important not to leave my two daughters with a lot of stuff to dispense with. Unfortunately, one of them struggles with hoarding. She's getting better though. Be blessed.
