Back for my 4th trip to Madagascar. As usual, my flight lands in Antananarivo. This trip I'm staying near the Place de l'independence for the 1st time. I would recommend staying in the area if you are in town. I booked 3 nights at the Hotel La Pousse Pousse, will be taking a Cotisse bus to Majunga later today.

fun fact: over 80% of all its fauna & flora is unique solely to Madagascar. One example are the Lemurs; there are approximately 32 different types of lemurs in existence today, all of which are endemic to Madagascar. It is a fascinating creature because apart from human being, it is the only other mammal on earth to have blue eyes.

It was named like Antananarivo way back in the 1600s by a king as he managed to gather 1000 subjects. He's motto was " Ny arivo lahy tsy maty indray andro " which means 1000 men can't die in a day.

I spent the first 16 years of my life in Majunga. The Northen-Western costal city. And just like you said it's like a ghost town in there during the days. Probably because of the heat. Then I moved to Antananarivo to study Computer Science at the University. The country is beautiful, the people are mostly friendly but we never lived with good life conditions. Sometimes living is Madagascar is like being in Prison. Prisoners of those greedy politicians who get richer everyday so that +80% of the population die in complete poverty. You can't walk a few meters without seeing people so skinny that you can nearly see their bones; that work require 4 times the physical activity a normal human can do just to get $50 a month half of which will be stollen back by govt anyway 😢 I make about 10 to 15 times that but still sad tho. On a positive note, I've been visiting the South-Estern part of the country a week ago. I've been to Isalo, one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Even tho it was also the worst trip I've ever been on. About 38 to 40 hours in total inside a very small and uncomfortable Hyundai Starex van, on the worst roads of the planet. I know, I know, it's very hard to stay positive when talking about MY country especially when you lived there for 24 years. But it is what it is. I hope one day we get through this ❤

Look at China 50 years back and you will see that it was a very poor country . Look at our Indonesia Cousin in the 1950 's , they were poor but today Indonesia is one of the powerful economic nation and will be an economical superpower in the near future. Economy is a cycle : Infrastructure can be bought through infrastructure loan , People can be trained through education , industrialisation can be made at anytime, Good governance can be put in place by the right politician . We don't need your pity and you can not predict the future . One day you will see that your grandchildren will beg for work in Africa and in Madaagascar.InchAllah

It is. This is only in Antananarivo and some other cities but most of Madagascar's undiscovered parts are full of people that can't write nor read and live with what they grow. However some of them think living in the main city will give them a better life and they end up surpopulating the main cities and end up in the streets. It's really sad to see.

That's because they recently focused cleaning areas around Analakely ( the place on video ) but there are some really really dirty places out there. It is mainly because the government can't pay the cleaners salary.

Is malagasy related to any indomalay languages at all?
@pddembowski
@pddembowski 2 ай бұрын
Hi for these types of questions, just go to Bing Copilot and type in your question. Here is the response I received: **Malagasy**, the language spoken in Madagascar and adjacent islands, indeed has **interesting linguistic connections**. Let's explore: 1. **Austronesian Origins**: - The Malagasy languages belong to the **Austronesian (Malayo-Polynesian)** family of languages. - These languages are spoken on Madagascar and nearby islands. - They share a common origin with other Austronesian languages found across the Pacific and Southeast Asia. 2. **Settlement by Indonesian People**: - Around **2,000 years ago**, Madagascar was settled by an **Indonesian people**. - As these settlers established themselves, the various Malagasy dialects **diversified**. - The close relationship between these dialects reflects their shared ancestry. 3. **Loanwords and Influences**: - Malagasy includes **numerous loanwords** from other languages due to historical interactions. - Some of these influences come from **Bantu, Swahili, Arab, English, and French** sources. - These linguistic borrowings enrich the Malagasy vocabulary. 4. **Closely Related Language**: - Interestingly, the Malagasy language is most closely related to the **Ma'anyan language**, which is still spoken on **Borneo**¹². In summary, while Malagasy has its unique characteristics, its roots lie within the broader Austronesian language family, connecting it to other languages across distant lands and seas. 🌏🗺.
