You did a super awesome job with this. My grandad actually helped design the full scale model for the original speeder from a new hope. It was built of the chassis of a car he also designed called the bond bug. Unfortunately he died at the end of last year at 96, but he was an amazing and creative person.

For backing up or breaking, use a ASJ37 Viggen reverse thrust set up. You could use two small pieces of curved foam shaped like nacelles on a servo to code and redirect the thrust.

Hi Guys, Many years ago, over the course of a few years, I had two full size hovercrafts. It took a long time to figure out there is no braking. Counter-intuitively, the technique was to do a 180 and apply power. It took several months but I finally got it mastered! I need a new project, keep me posted on the full size version!

I was thinking 2 motors for the lift. One that fill the bag. And the second for lift. But overall looks great.
@borgonianevolution
@borgonianevolution Жыл бұрын
Props wont work as effectively in reverse. I would suggest you put the bag on the throttle with a mix that slows down the fill motor and use friction to slow or stop forward motion. Other wise you may run into over heat issues on the escs trying to spin back and forth as much as will be necessary for control on the real one. Maybe even work on a skid plate under the skirt that acts as a drag brake as well.

Or skid pads (think double ended skis) on pylons about half the depth of the fully inflated skirt.

Simple braking: Set up to reduce power to the "lift" engine to lower it to the ground. I'm presuming there's one engine for lift and one for thrust (did not see a lot of the assembly part of the video), but I know some manned hovercraft have used one big engine and mechanically diverted the pressure for about half lift and about half thrust. In the case of that....perhaps a sliding "door" inside to block a lot of the pressure going downwards for lift (door on bottom would be damaged too easily by the ground when stopping).

Looks awesome but needs more weight in the from to counterbalance those nacelles in the back. Hover skirts are all about weight balancing, just like the planes you build. You could see it running nose high, which means it's losing lift air from the front of the skirt.

An optimist looks at a glass and says it's half full, this would-be flitetest who seems to build some of the wildest Things in the world! A pessimist, looks at a glass and says it's half empty, this would be flitetest when they still have something left to rebuild until they're literally taping and hot gluing Parts together! An engineer looks at a glass and says it's over designed and it's twice as big as it needs to be! I know that there are plenty of people at flitetest especially Josh who can mathematically prove things but it seems to be better for them to just build it throw in the air and see if it works!

That looks great I think you are on to something. But a word of caution to get good proformance on water work hard to keep the cushion load under 12 pounds per square foot of skirted area. If you get much over 14 pounds per square foot of skirted area you blow spray and loose cushion pressure and can't maintain cushion.
