I love that my phone shows the actual names of people on KZbin rather than the names they want to show. It lets me see when scammers reply to my posts about contacting them on Discord and Telegram. Neither of which I have accounts for and never will. Other than that, great work, and I can't wait for more of this build.

This is absolutely my favorite project from you guys EVER. When you get it hovering, and performing really well, you can glass the entire thing, and make it durable. But you would obviously need to calculate in the extra weight, ahead. Maybe use added weights, spread evenly all around the hovercraft, along with the rider weights, in testing, to account for the glassing you'll add when it comes time to finish it. The weighs really should be spread all around the outside of the craft, obviously, to mimic the load distribution of the glassing. For those who will whine about how it's not an airplane.....Technically a hovercraft FLIES.
@cliftongolz1400 Жыл бұрын
Extra weight is generally best avoided, but I can imagine a system with movable weights to fine tune the CG and optimize the ride characteristics, too.

Either fiberglass or carbon fiber cloth depending on the budget for the build. I have a feeling it's going to be a bit of a "tail-dragger" even as foam unless they get the ducting for the lift fans _just_ right.
@DetroitMicroSound Жыл бұрын
@@michiganengineer8621 Seems like two main completely divided compartments for the air skirt: One fore, and one aft. Aft's fan being capable of more thrust than fore, could help with the tail dragging issue. Bigger fan under your butt, than under your feet.
@DetroitMicroSound Жыл бұрын
@@cliftongolz1400 If the weight is calculated in, ahead, it's just a matter of lifting power.
@michiganengineer8621 Жыл бұрын
@@DetroitMicroSound That WOULD make sense, but it sounded like they're planning on having a pair of stacked counter-rotating props up in the nose. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be having a big "shredder blade" spinning at several hundred RPM a few inches under my jewels LOL

The one in the movie had large wheels on the bottom they hid with mirrors and post processing. The way they hid the lower half makes Luke look as if part of his legs disappear into a wormhole because there was a little bump on the bottom for the seat, his feet, and the pedals on his car. Changing the height of the side panels makes up for the seat bump and pedals disappearing. I also can't seem to find the Lucas Film's interview where George Lucas and some of the other film makers (can't remember their names) talked about the car and the making of the original film.
@MalcySP Жыл бұрын
The speeder in the film ran on wheels and there was a mirror which reflected the ground below it to make it look like it was hovering.

The real one was actually much taller than it appeared on film. Don't forget that it had 2 foot tall mirrors all the way around the bottom to give the illusion that it was suspended. That's why it looked like they were so short. I think it was built on a Volkswagen chassis.

Needs a bow to stern keel and a triangular gusset on the inside in front of it attached to that rear pylon support to distribute the stress load put on by the prop. Especially since that foam doesn't have the strength / stiffness of aluminum or steel.

I think that Mark Hamill and Alec Guinness are sitting with their legs basically straight out in front of them on the floor inside the speeder, rather than sitting on actual seats. Or, at least that's about the only way I can think of them fitting into it, the way it looks on screen and the way Mark Hamill clambers out (with Alec Guinness struggling to get out) at Mos Eisley seems to support that. Making the fuselage thicker so you're not crammed in there the same way, for your comfort, seems like a good decision.

Whatever you do, do not trust propellers for making the air cushion. This part is about pressure but flow. Propellers do have too much of pitch for this purpose. Sadly I do not know the right english expression, but you need some kind of a turbine impeller, like many blades, little pitch. Propellers are designed for a free outflow , not pressure.
