You are right about that koi you caught. Absolutely beautiful fish. The colors were outstanding. And the huge scales made it look like the fish was wearing armor. It is certainly fun to learn about a species of fish, figure out how to fish for it, target it, and then catch it. I do it all the time and all the effort pays off with a feeling of accomplishment. Plus it’s damn fun!

As a European I can say, that it feels like many Americans really underestimate the Cyprinus carpio as "sport fish". they are fascinating creatures. Especially the crossover between genetic phenotypes is something very very, special and beautiful. And they fight REALLY REALLY good.

Koy ! ? Are you kidding me ? I never thought I would see this in "the wild " so to speak. Real KOY, in a pond, wow. I know they sell for Big Bucks , too see em in a pond where people fish tho seems unreal. Where did they come from ? Are they making " little koy " ? He-he. This is very cool. Leo i have a question i have never caught a white sucker and i found one swimming in a little pool of water so i felt bad and tried to catch it to move it out of the little puddle. So i used a worm and a hook I literally just put the worm right under its face. I set the hook after a few seconds and caught him. So my question is that a catch for my life list i caught him/her in the mouth and everything but idk if the fish ate the hook but i set it in the mouth can i add the fish would you??? Great video

The carp was so majestic!!!! I went yesterday with corn and 6 and 8 lb liner; I guess that is why it didnt bite. I tried your bottom fishing with the weights and the two hooks and two nodes two. The carp was swimming around the area I chummed; (I saw her there ((her or him! Lol) the other day anyways...) Should I try bread or keep trying corn? What about the hotdog or carp already made balls they sell at stores? I saw you did basically casting with the corn and got one right away! Right? I thought they were kinda slow fish; but I guess they bite corn that is been casted... I guess also with 4lb liner it makes easy for the corn to be casted slowing without sinking. Thank you so much for the video!

You can make some serious side hustle selling those to pet shops. I’ve got a mostly unknown pond by me that has a big population of koi and goldfish. I got a calico one with a blue back that sold at the shop for $200. I also got one while out on Lake Michigan, 16lbs, it has a spot at the Milwaukee zoo, donated.

I use 10 lbs lead on my 5wt 9" fly rod to catch common carp all the time. Maybe the fish behave differently in different areas? I'm in Colorado and the carp here are pretty mellow. I've waded next to them and tossed fake corn right on them plenty of times and they just don't care lol I even bring my kids sometimes and they play in the water and the carp don't care. Great video Leo!

@cocokitty2125 жыл бұрын
Fish 4 Life actually, yes, he made a mistake in the video, he was referring to koi carp which are a hybrid of koi and common carp, ornamental koi are a mutation of carp, but not common carp, if you catch a pure koi, it is a Amur carp, if you catch a koi carp (fatter than normal koi) it is a common carp

Leo, There are some really big common carp, a school of about 20 fish, they are all over 15 lbs, no exaggeration. The leader of this school is a hybrid Koi, mostly white and pink, he has to be 40 lbs. I don't wish to burn the spot, but it's in broad view of many Philly commuters. "I have to change rods" * Eh, actually that was pretty fun! Hooked up with a Flatty last year in the schuks while after whatever was interested in biting. Diawa Samuri ultralight rod with a shimano sedona 1000 reel and 4lb test. Most intense fight. Unfortunately, I lost the fish while trying to get him out of the water. Drag wasn't set properly when i was trying to bring him out and the last little hoorah of energy was enough to break me off. Heck of a fish. I suppose with enough drag and patience and line you can catch about anything on lighter gear set ups.

Im not sure on the legality of releasing koi back into somewhere once you have caught it. You may very well be breaking the law and should be killing these fish. Not exactly sure though. I know many things in florida, once caught must not be let back go.
