How sturdy/delicate was Hooktail and the other paper cast members in this video? Did you have anything as a result break and need repairing, or was it smooth sailing during creation of the diorama and filming? (P.S. Great video by the way. I can tell that this was made with a lot of care and passion, especially with how faithful this scene was to the original! You even included those dynamic angles of Hooktail! The crafts were beautiful and you should be proud! I'm holding out for a sequel to this for sure.

Thanks! I tried to re-create it shot for shot for all of the dialogue shots at least. I wish I could have included even more moments, such as her queasiness from the Attack FX badge sounds, but I at least got in the most important moments.

This got me thinking, imagine if they made papercraft sculptures of bosses from paper mario like hooktail and cortez and shadow queen etc, the kind that you pop out of a cutout and assemble yourself. I feel like there would be a market for that kind of merch, and itd definitely be cheap to produce (its paper lmao)

I considered making my Hooktail 3D model into a kit that I could sell for an affordable price, but she is a bit too difficult to put together bc of the interior skeleton she has for support unfortunately.

This was really cool! Im suprized that its not getting its due numbers as i saw from your twitter post. If you end up doing more of these, id love to see some stylish moves in future battles, and maybe you can also add a hook by getting some voice actors for the non-mario characters? Pretty wild! If I couldn't see the cardboard texture, it would be hard to tell what parts are stop-motion and what's enhanced. I assume that things like text, save blocks, and some of the expressions were after-effects?

Yeah it's all real sets and crafts except for the digital text, audience, and there were a few facial expressions digitally drawn on (hooktail's pain eyes and koops talking animation). Having the digital audience get eaten by a practical Hooktail was a challenge in AE to comp correctly for sure.
