I've always low key felt that I preferred 64. It's really close between them for me. I think the one aspect that separates it is the Peach sections are SO much better in 64.

I don't *disagree* with you necessarily, but I *also* have a feeling that you *may* have some nostalgia for 64.

8 months later, and when I look at the music between each original game, it's definitely interesting to see how the style changed. The first game was entirely scored by the Fire Emblem veteran Yuka Tsujiyoko, built mostly on familiar Super Mario themes, with a few new stuff, in her particular style (something I noticed has lots of similarities to Thracia 776). All of that makes a very nice, cozy feel to everything; even most of the tensest songs don't completely abandon this. Meanwhile, Paper Mario: TTYD saw the use of newer synths, seeing a more overtly electronic style be embraced. Plus, much more of the game has completely new sets of motifs. In addition, you get another sound artist, Yoshito Hirano (now Sekigawa), who was then a new face in the VGM world. It very nicely creates a more "new" feeling, like you're in an unfamiliar adventure, which the game itself does. This of course was doubled-down on even more with Super Paper Mario. Comparing just the originals, I definitely enjoy the first game's soundtrack for the above reasons, though I am glad TTYD switched things up.

I got used to the frame rate, but never stopped wishing it was 60 fps. That bit of extra smoothness just makes games feel so much better. That and the sluggish UI are my only two main complaints. One negative that I’m surprised you didn’t mention is how Mario twirls way slower during super guards (likely a result of the slower frame rate). It’s really a minor nitpick, but the original one looks like such a more powerful deflection by comparison. Overall though, I loved the remake! The visuals, new music, quality of life changes, and new content made it so great to revisit TTYD.

standard paper mario fan ranking. you even ranked the remake below the original ttyd so youre even a standard gamer as well. sorry if that came off as rude, ive kinda grown a resentment twords how paper mario fans treat the later 3 titles becaue of how different they are. same thing goes for how NSMB and super monkey ball and RE6 are treated as well. i really wanna make a video on theese games that are great but hated. probably break the mold for whats aceptable in opinion. get a bunch of hate coments, and probably and very unlikley help more people see what i see in sticker star.

@hgmd3284 I ranked Origami King over SPM, that's pretty uncommon. I happen to like it. Also me ranking 64 as #1 is very rare in the fan base

TTYD: terrible music, have to play with sound off. Also, extremely boring compared to 64.

One thing I and some others have noticed with the new soundtrack is the heavy use of violin/strings throughout. Just like Origami King, woodwinds and strings take a much bigger role, whereas something like Sticker Star relied a ton on saxophone/brass. Or how TTYD/SPM uses almost exclusively synths (64 used MIDI sound, which is different). Of course, many of the bosses, and the final chapter use electric guitar (played by Yoshito himself)and vocals prominently, also similar to Origami King.

Overall I consider the remake soundtrack a big improvement, although part of it is my preference for the full ensemble. I feel the live instruments allow for a lot more variety, which we got in the recent 3 installments (CS, TOK, TTYD-remake). For example, Color Splash has folk, texas-style rock, big-band jazz, classical, trap, spy jazz, minimalist cinematic, sea shanty, Galaxy-esque symphony, and much more.

I might be in the minority here, but I'm not a fan of most of the new songs. The main problem I have with most of the remade songs is that they're much more "busy" and "noisy". It's like they doubled the number of instruments that play at any given time, and personally I find it overwhelming. The phrase "less is more" comes to mind. A notable exception to this is Magnus Von Grapple's new theme. I love what they did with that one.

If you're looking for one big way to make the new game harder is to deal with the outsized effects the Power Rush badge has on the game. They need to make them significantly more expensive (100 - 125 "Pianta bucks" lnstead of just 34 or 50). Or have them take two BP's, instead of one, to activate! By making them so relatively easy to acquire, they basically take control of the game. It's the equivalent of making M-16's available to the defenders of the Alamo! That would also make the game better because it would throw in another strategy component (Cost/Benefit analysis) to consider. Another suggestion is to have some additional reward that will actually impact the game, that you can get for completing all the "Troubles" side-errands, like you do for completing all the Badges ,Tattles, and Recipes! And if they could do something about cutting down on the excessive (and unnecessary) running back and forth for no particular reason, in certain sections of the game (just to make the game last longer I assume), would be great.

I don’t know why this isn’t more talked about but Vivian’s character dialogue being changed to more fit the original Japanese script is something I find amazing. It was bad for localization to take away some of her story about being a trans woman and being excepted as the shadow siren’s sister, rather than brother. The remake changes it to fit its Japanese script in all languages.

Does it have a creepy AI computer that does not fit the world? Does it have an unnecessary and weird species of alien things that could be removed without really affecting the story or final encounter? Paper Mario 64 is the best game, period. And it does not reslly need a remake. It is already perfect. TTYD is largely unnecessary.. and a new entry would simply be better than the same thing again. If people are so nostalgic about these.. just play the original!

I liked the world of PM64 a lot more. The desert area, the hillside area where you fight Tubba's heart, the Snow area, the jungle island, those all jump out at me with how much you explore and how large the areas feel despite them being mostly flat. Even the shy goy tox box I found fun and I liked the cryptic method of entry. The only TTYD chapter I prefer over any of PM64's is the glitz pit chapter.
