The burglar’s name was Matthew Hahn this all happened in the early 2000s it was his 3rd serious offence so he was facing life but he took a plea deal by testifying at the case of the child molester. He got 14 years but only served 7. He got clean in prison (him and the molester were in the same prison at one point but never interacted) went back to college and turned his life around.

This reminds me of The Collector. A thief has been watching this house for the right time to steal from their safe, but as he's cracking it he realizes there's a crazy murderer that's been waiting for the perfect time to off the family inside, and the murderer chose tonight too. So he goes from tryna steal all this money and gems to tryna protect/save the family instead. Great anti-hero story. Really well made movie and script. 10/10 recommend.
