You’re adorable. It’s difficult to get rid of things when they hold memories or they’re one of a kind items that you love. By the look of those empty bins you’re doing a fabulous job! 😊 Just think, before you know it those Dogwoods will be in bloom and the pool will be in and you’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors. When I’m overwhelmed, I thank God for all that I have. If I’m doing dishes that day (for the third time) 🤦‍♀️ I’ll thank God that I have dishes to wash and that I’m able to wash them. Oh good. Believe me, I’ve been there while cleaning out my parent’s house, as well as my own. It’s not easy. Take breaks and go outside and swing on that beautiful swing or sit in those cute Adirondack chairs.😊 I wanted a smiley face charm for a long time and I finally bought one. Well, I lost it and knew where it happened. So when I went back to look for it I heard in my spirit that someone really needed a smile that day and needed to find it. So just think how happy you’ll make someone donating some of your beautiful treasures. 😊

Everything will work out , just take it day by day and don’t stress about it. Easy to say , however you seem to be a planner and organizer. Awe Debbie, we’ve all been there, I helped my mom empty her parents house, when my parents died I had to clean out their house, then my in-laws home, that’s a lot of stuff and it takes time because all that stuff is memories, so we’ve all had excess, we’ve all had to have chaos and clutter during that process, you’ll get it all done, don’t let it overwhelm you, everyone’s been there at some time in their life, when we bought our last home 21 years ago it was shortly after our son died, I wasn’t much help to my husband, he purged a lot of stuff, but I haven’t missed anything so that was o.k, when your married almost 50 years you accumulate a lot of stuff, baby steps, alittle everyday, it will get done, so look forward to your video’s and your chats!

I’ve asked my kids and they’ve already taken thjngs but the hardest of all which I just can’t toss are the cards my kids gave to my mom and dad with their little coloring or misspellings. They kept everyone.

I love hearing real life stories! It makes you feel so real, and that's why I watch. I also like learning from others. We are getting ready to make a big move several states away. So we are decluttering our stuff. It feels good to get rid of things, even though I like 'stuff'. But I have to get serious about it, we are getting older and it weighs me down, mentally. You are right it does weigh you down. It is great if you have the time before moving to decrease it all. Ours unfortunately was a bit different and our house sold in one day do we literally boxed and stored and paid for four years of storing it which was pretty dumb but we had no idea this house would take so long. We were told 12 months would be the most.

We had our home custom built 30 years ago and it was the same but when all is said and done I wouldn't do anything differently. Wow, you have a beautiful house. This kind of houses you don't find easyly in the Netherlands. it is very difficult to find a house in the Netherlands anyway. Both rental and owner-occupied houses. Young people have to wait 8 to 10 years before they can rent a house. And owner-occupied houses are priceless. i like to decorate my house. First only at Christmas, now with Valentine, Easter, spring and so on all year round. I love that you let us see the real time the real household. By a lot of KZbinrs it's all clean and decluttered. It is so hard to realize how life is in other countries. We are blessed to have been able to have our own home most of our married life. We did have to wait though when we were first married and the interest rates were 15%!!! Now people complain about 7%.

@@yourhomeyourhappyplace5000 I am also glad i own a house. The Netherlands is a small country with almost 18 million people and thousands of refugees from ukraine. In 60 years the citizen in the Netherlands are doubled. And because we have not enough housing, houses are very expensive. If i want to sell my house it is 40% higher then when i bought it in 20 years time. When i sold my first house 20 years ago the price was 3x higher. bought it for 50 thousend guilder and sold it for 163 thousends guilders. (now aprox 80 thousend euro). In this house i will stay. In 6.5 years i can retire and maybe we buy a holiday house in France. But then we are both old (my boyfriend is then 70 and i am 67,5 years). But most enjoying my spare time.

Your house is amazing and it takes time to get settled but you will! My husband moved me 24 times until he passed away so I’ve remained in the last house we purchased! Oh Debbie I so understand what you are going through. We started our custom built home with an architect meeting in Jan. 2020. The first floorplan arrived at the same time Covid hit the world. Our architect stayed home & of course prices drastically changed. Wood shortages didn't seem to stop the demand for skilled building trades so when we finally finished on our plan there was a delay to start again. July 2021 we broke ground & moved in prematurely Aug. 22. (We had lived in our previous house for 31 years).The majority of our things stayed in the garages for weeks. We unloaded the last commercial storage unit today. My husband kept reminding me that you eat an elephant one bite at a time, needless to say I am sick of elephant bites, lol. I hope to completely finish soon, but we also are selling our vacation lakehouse this year. Last year would have been primetime with low interest rates, but I just couldn't do it all. So that is my next project that I want to scream, NOOO! There is a pressure to get it on the market soon for the short season. Good luck to you & hopefully we both can just relax soon and enjoy our houses.❤

I think it's time to downsize. We did that this year and took 12 loads to God's storehouse. It's freeing. There are many needy people. You will feel good about sharing.

That would be good advice for some but we did that for two years during this and I found I got very little exercise in the home and I love to clean. The other issue is we just built this home for hospitality. We moved 4 hours away from where we lived all of our lives and we welcome friends and family to come to this beautiful area and spend a week with us. Our family continues to grow, soon to be 7 grandchildren and we want them to be able to spend time with us. Yes, the stuff definitely needs to downsize but I have strong opinions against downsizing in general. I know some people blossom but some go in the opposite direction and it’s good that you found your sweet spot. I was chatting with someone last week in the comments who is regretting downsizing so much and falling into depression. I’ll get through the mess and share the excess, but I’m so grateful for this home I can share wonderful times with people in and make memories.
