Real Life Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Disk Concept

Decided to do a quick video on what i feel could be potentially a real Yugioh Duel Links update that turns the game open world. As well for the people that want a bit of Anime in there duels, why not a wrist mount?

YES, THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING You place your deck on your phone while the app is active in scan mode, it scans it, and registers all your cards. Same thing with your extra deck. Maybe there's both Speed Duel and Regular Duel options, and, you have separate decks for separate types of duels There could also be a search mode, and, while its active, it points to others who also have search mode on

Instead of capturing monsters it could be based on battle city where you duel with CPUs then you win a card but you also could have the "pokè-stops" be shops where you can buy packs and structure decks similar to duel links. That's my spin on how it could work anyway.

Basically it is a disk that you connect to some device with the disk's app to make your deck virtually and use some bluetooth-connected gazers. The disk would get track of all the stuff (hand, GY, etc) The problem is that you could invent any deck you would want and even if they invent bar/QR codes for the cards internet would do what internet does.

I think it'd be interesting if you tried messing around with a standard 3d printer so you can come up with your own design and print it to show for your next video. There's tons of existing templates you can tweak with some basic shapes to make it look neater.

As much as I would like this we have to think about real scenarios. Criminals can use the app to track other yugioh players which can lead to “shadow duels” that could lead to robberies, murder, and mich worse. While I don’t play the card game anymore and I would want this someday, we wouldn’t want another Pokemon GO situation to happen where criminals would use incenses to lead trainers to sketchy places. I would suggest that this should be used in a tournament format where you can only use this at tournaments. This incentivizes players to come to tournaments and try out the new technology, thus increasing attendance rates at tournaments, giving Konami an incentive to fund their tournaments more, and bringing the community in one place where people from the outside world can’t get in unless they register for the tournament

I have an idea: Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links 2. This time light iPads could be used as duel disks with magnetic straps and gameplay is actually upgraded to vibrate hard when someone takes damage. Also real cards could be coded to read Monsters on Google Glass VR if someone wants half analogue mode battle, where iPad scans the card and features it on opponents iPad.

I could see this being done with a classic duel format as well as speed duel. Maybe “scan” the physical card (just plug in the set code on the card or something) to give some more deck building to the game(I know there would need to be a huge update to duel links to go up to master rule 4, or a whole new app entirely). I mean with an Arduino, an LCD screen, maybe some other things like a Bluetooth module and a 3D printer you could design and create your own functional duel disk. Going a bit further you can include RFID scanners in the card zones and make special RFID tag card sleeves. (Obviously gotta make sure somehow that nobody mismatches the card and sleeve for example)

During the battle royale, if you beat someone, you can choose between 1 random UR,SR, or R card in their deck. Then, you can choose to go into a timed deck editing phase to add the card you chose into your deck if you wanted to (timed to keep people from stalling until the royale is almost over).

For the 'Yugioh Go' idea, you go around and find either players to duel and earn points or gems like in Master Duel to get more cards or find CPUs like Marik Ishtar or Akiza and duel them to earn some free cards. I think a good way to revitalize the yugioh card game is make a dueling app that can scan your cards through an oculus rift type headset. The duelist can then lift up their card to the camera and select what to do with it. It will then show up on the field in any position you desire. Something about using real cards in a duel like that is what attracts some of us

I was really tempted to design a duel disk, draw up a concept that would use cameras and Bluetooth as you said Sam. The problem with it being the GY and the Banished pile, there is no easy way to represent that as apposed to fanning them out(unless you have a kind of "bank" that records each card that goes in and/or out with buttons labeled as Banished, GY or Out(if you're placing cards in or taking them out of each pile)). Probably would have to have them wired up to a PC just to use its processing power for all this. Of course it'd have a screen on top to display LP and the opponent's cards, it could potentially be really heavy!

If you recall, the field zone pops out. You could make the entire duel disk part a tad thicker and add two zones that can pull out just like the field zone! Just a thought for a “proper” duel disk that could work for links. I’ve honestly thought about buying a 3D printer and messing around with some ideas haha. Also you could probably make them lighter, and add a touch screen calculator or something of the sort. On subject to the video, I do like the idea! You can do a “horizontal” mode on duel links and make it just show your field, then on your opponents, it shows theirs. Of course you could also click a button to show the other field as well, just to not limit the player.

Here's my ideas as I said I would post Long tube like gauntlets/cuffs/bracelet like things covering up most if not all your forearm which folds in and becomes thin, kinda like proper accessories, but then can fold or slide out, still maintaining its tubed/curved appearance, with an equally curved, thing screen which curves in kinda like an archway on its side so the curved edges cover your screen so no one can look at it but you. It'd be touch screen of course and the front of it will have a little camera/card scanner where (all cards ever created already have their information loaded into the device BUT they're all locked) you scan your irl cards which then unlock cards. This saves you having to slide real cards into the disk and risk ruining them, allows you to keep cards in binders nice and pristine, it'd also keep the trading factor of the game so you can trade cards with people to acquire new cards to scan (or just get cards you just wanna have like usual haha). Also the device would by mostly if not fully waterproof just in case. While having the top part or so folded out revealing a screen, that screen would show you the field of your opponent and whenever a card or monster is summoned or battle is initiated, an animation will take place and if something like a counter trap or something is activated, the animation still happens but the counter trap appear in the animation and does it thing like say a blazing mirror force is activated, the attacking monster would be shown attacking but then a tsunami of fire would shoot out from the card and cover the screen after the card is flipped upwards. And when a monster attacks, it'd show the monster doing it usual kind of attack they would of done in the show or something with the target standing idle and taking the hit unless something happens. If that something which happens results in the target somehow now having more attack, the attacking monster's attack would slow down and stop as the target monster begins its attack instead. This would allow all card animations to all work together and not clash (meaning is wouldn't be as hard and take consuming as you wouldn't be having to make animations for every possible event but instead overlap the ready made animations which need using. Below the top screen once folded out, another screen would be revealed and this screen hosts your field with your deck, extra deck, hand, gy, banish zone and actual field. Your LP would also be there and your opponents would be on the top screen. When it's your time to draw, the deck would cover the screen and you can swipe it sideways to draw your card which is then shown rising up onto the top screen where it is revealed and takes up your top screen allowing you to read its effects. You'd then tap one of the screens to make it remove the card. You can tap any card and if the cards is currently revealed or has already been revealed (like a card being flipped up and then flipped back down for example) you'd be able to read its effects after tapping the card. One reference for most of these ideas can be seen from most if not all yugioh ds games with the double screens This is just the short version of what I was thinking and it's not even all of it, don't wanna bore anyone but here's just a small version of my ideas for what could be used. These would just be prototypes but after a while, versions for 1 armed people would be available. All of this would work via Bluetooth.

1. I think just a Pokemon Go like game where you can walk around by chance and can randomly find/capture different cards with things like Droll and Lock Bird, Raigeki, Phantasmae and so on being harder to find. 2. You can trade cards with friends and duel and go to "Pokestops" to collect points to buy cards/packs. And it essentially recreates that one scene from yu-gi-oh GX where Chaz travels around the snowy terrain finding cards in the snow and rummaging up a decent deck. 3. Maybe you can wager cards kind of like the og series (Like how Joey got Jinzo or got and lost his red-eyes). I don't know if I would like the speed duel format but maybe being able to have different events around the world require speed duel decks and others may require a full deck. 4. Maybe avoid premium packs with better cards but allow users to pay for things like "Incense" to cause more cards to spawn around you to avoid an over bearing "Pay to Win" atmosphere while still promoting a healthy income for Konami and the devs. 5. I personally wouldn't allow players to see each other in the vicinity because that could be dangerous (stranger danger), but maybe having a list of players with the game open in a 1/2 km radius to duel/trade with. 6. Konami can do something similar to duel terminals where you can scan special cards won at real life tournaments at certain stations to allow you to add that card to your virtual collection (it could possibly be used as a card irl too) this would promote real life tourney play, breathing more life into Konami's fan base. 7. The catching system could be a guessing game, essentially the player would click on the card they want to catch (similar to pokemon go and clicking pokemon they want to capture), they will then see the card and a certain amount of face down "fake" cards (which will change depending on the rarity of the card), it will flip over the real card and shuffle them around. The player then has a certain amount of attempts (which would also depend on the rarity) to guess which card is the real one. The player could possibly use items to give themselves more guesses or remove some fake cards. 8. Tourneys could be held making higher tier cards/packs as the prize (the more players/the steeper the entry fee, the better the card/pack). 9. Special collectibles that could be found may be things like card fragments, which when a certain amount is collected all the card fragments can be put together to make a rare card. 10. Quests could be implemented, things such as win x amount of duels, collect x amount of cards, summon x amount of ritual monsters, or summon one xyz and 2 fusions in a single duel etc. The prize could be points, card fragments, items for card collection, a rare card, a good amount of more common cards, or packs of cards could be earned from quests. 11. The game would be easy to program rarities because Konami already has all of that laid out with real life card rarities. Now some cards have multiple rarities, they can either go for the highest/lowest rarity, or they can make card packs shift every hour meaning so for instance the hour just ended so the card pack of the hour is going to change, an rgn will randomly select a card pack from the list of existing card packs. Let's say it selected, 'the Dark Legends' that means random cards from the dark legends can now be found in the wild. So a card like Monster Reborn, would be semi difficult to find as it was a super rare in that pack. 12. At the top of each hour players may be able to vote on one of three randomly selected packs to be the pack of the hour. 13. Any card that isn't possible to find in a pack is still possible to still be found in the wild it would just be a lower chance (let's say a 20% chance to find a pack that isn't from the card list of the pack of the hour). 14. If you still can't find a card in the wild, you can go to the player market, players can put up cards they don't want up for sale/auction for other players to buy and bid. The seller can set the price for their card, but if it is too extreme other players can vote to knock that card off the market, returning it to the player. This is too avoid trolls putting something like Sanwitch up for 1,000,000 dollars or something like that. Players can even make card requests, so they may ask for Spellbook of Knowledge, and put a bounty on it for a certain amount of pts. Someone can see this request and fulfill it giving the, requesting player said card and earning the given amount in the process . 15. Archetype events can be added where a certain archetype spawns more frequently (even if it isn't in the pack of the hour), so players may come across more Ghostricks during a Ghostrick event. This is just me spitballing ideas, what does everyone else think, any cool ideas/changes to mine?~

Duel disk mode requires a $30-$50 device with a screen (your hand is the phone, an arc v like duel disk at an almost perpendicular angle which shows you the field. I guess it looks like sprites of monsters sitting on spell/traps and the top shows the same but for your opponent and you can tap the areas to have the phone switch from hand to examine/use effect) Ante rule basically makes irl dueling have an insensitive, and you can also use a duelist call function which makes your location visible to other duelists/vice versa (both people have to opt in) which is compulsory if you join irl torniments that require you to go to a specific location to sign up

Just do something similar to duel generation for the actual game part then ad a token system where you can collect them by walking or visiting certain locations then trade them for random packs. The arm mount could be a extra thing you colud buy, each one could be themed and give a signiture card you colud also then use the database from duel generation so you wouldn't have to re program all the cards into the game this could even be an update for it or one for links you could then also have comps based on both speed and normal duels in the game and would serve as a good intro to duel links and competitive play.

That raid boss mechanic can work like you duel the monster using a themed deck where it summons and uses itself, once you beat them you get the monster. Better monsters are stronger when used and thus harder to get Edit: also I would do forearm exercises daily to carry around a full arm duel screen like that anime clip showed

This actually sounds like a good idea. For the GO side there could be card shops like pokestops and going to 1 always give some kind of card pack that contains 5 random cards with the 5th card being some form of rarity that varies pack from pack. On the wrist attachment there could be an extension that scans physical cards people have and adds them to the games card bank which would also bring in younger people to get into the game and slowly teach them how all mechanics of the game work. As for dueling it could have the duel links style and regular style with 5 card slots instead of 3, for the fast and casual players. If I had the money I'd fund tons of people including tgs anime to make it a reality but I don't have that kind of money.

I think, for the card-remembering problem, there should be a some sort of image recogniser to the duel disk that can recognise duel monster cards. You let the duel disk recognise the card and put it in the virtual duel board - like the Arc-V duel disk.

If you’ve ever heard of smart glasses, maybe technology like that could be used to make augmented reality like in yugioh zexal. Basically, the smart glasses shows you information from your phone such as directions to a location you’re going too or your messages on the lenses. Something like that could be used here.

I like it. If you want to keep going with the Pokemon Go base line, you could make it so pokestops (yugistops?) basically work as booster packs. Each one gives you between 1 and 3 random cards per day. If monsters can be found in the wild, this could be the way to get spell and trap cards along with other monsters.

Honestly I think the Switch screen is actually a good size for it if you take the joy-cons off. I think you're right in that the only real limiting factor is not having a supporting program and apparatus to lock the screen in place comfortably.

Ok a few ideas running on how this could work. 1. The monsters are around but you take the DS games approach and you beat the duel monsters or characters from the anime series to earn DP or some sort of in game currency to purchase packs and structure decks. 2. The pvp aspect would work like pokemon go in factions with three factions per anime series. DM would have Kaiba Corp, Industrial Illusions, and Doma (Dartz organization in the original Japanese version of the anime. GX would have Slifer Red, Ra Yellow, Obelisk Blue. 5D's would have Team 5D's, Dark Signers, and Yliaster/Team New World. Zexal would have Heartland, Astral World, Barian World. Arc-V would have LDS, Yusho, and Academia. Vrains would be Sol Tech, Knights of Hanoi, and Ignis. 3. The ranking system would be similar to Duel Links but with different rankings for each series. DM would have Beginner, Intermediate, Skilled, High Class, then King of Games. GX would have rankings for each dorm/faction. Slifers have Slifer Freshman, Slifer Junior, Slifer Senior, Slifer Graduate. The Ra and Obelisk factions would have similar rankings. 5D's would have rankings based on Neo Domino City/Turbo Duel jargon but is a bit similar to DM's. Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Speed Demon, Master of Faster, Ruler of Duels, The King. Zexal and Vrains would be hard to give ranking terms for. 4. PVP can happen in person or online like in duel links. 5. Customizable Avatars like in the Yu-Gi-Oh DS game.

Two straps would stop the wobbliness. I had a similar idea but I thought of the phone only as a life counter, this idea is awesome! I used a flexible phone tripod to wrap the phone around my wrist, and the phone acted as the blade of the duel disk. It looks pretty sick too xd

Actually I think a separate app where you can put in the codes for cards you already have/scan the real card so you have it in the game, and then capture additional monsters to get a larger base of cards, that way everyone can play a deck they're familiar with, and different formats too, which can be fun

Im litterally designing a duel disk that comes out and goes back in real tight, and basically the duel disk has NFC readers for multiple spots, and each card has multiple NFC receivers for multiple functions and u could connect a tiny oled transparent screen kinda gondle like zexal and it sends 3D models to it.

We already have an app called YGOpro that allows you to play Yu-Gi-Oh on your phone, computer, etc. (YGOpro essentially is the real game of Yu-Gi-Oh with Links and all that.) So, what if we took that game, gave it Bluetooth compatibility to allow you to be able to challenge people around you? You could also at the start of each players turn have the deck cover the full screen so you could do that “Draw!” motion, and that way you can really feel like a duelist. If technology got a little more advanced, it could get to a point where you are playing cards on an actual duel disk and the app would register what is going on to the field and put it on the screen for both players to see like Arc-V. Just a thought, I guess. I apologize for any poor grammar or anything like that.

I think the most feasible “duel disk” would be a glorified QR code reader. A duel disk is programmed to scan QR codes on each slot. QR codes that correspond to the cards are on each card sleeve. TVs are synched with the disk to display the cards from a distance.

This actually does sound like a good idea. the only thing that would probably be tough is the whole thing with showing the deck or something. With phone screen so small, it'd kinda be hard unless you had AR vision goggles (aka Duel Gazers) or some sorta connection to a computer or another screen. I just dunno. It does seem very fun though, and I would love to have the chance to see this thought become a reality. This is a really great video, TGS. Keep up the good work.
