Him not knowing who Slash is is like me not knowing many rappers & hip hop artists. It's simply because I didn't grow up in a community where hip hop is popular. So if this young man was raised in an environment where rap is not only the music familiar to him, but also the culture he is surrounded by, of course he wouldn't know Slash or other predominantly white bands. Popularity is relative anyway. His greatest character is his ability to notice different things now as he wisens up & has the curiosity to start peeking into different boxes in music. Congratulations, young man. Maybe you should educate us about rap songs that are meaningful to you.

Man i understand you but you just couldn't justify and compare the two just like it's black and white, slash is on the top of the line when it comes to guitar player just like Tupac, Jay-Z, Eminem etc etc when it comes to rapping, yeah not knowing the mediocre ones are understandable but when you are on top it's different, you'll just seem ignorant if you don't know or even heard of them.

That soulful voice ( he has a five octave range too which is rare and amazing) is Axl Rose, I read somewhere it took him nine years of writing November Rain before he recorded and released it. If no one mentioned it yet, that beautiful man with phenomenal guitar skills is Slash. That's because you don't listen to real artists today. If you truly believe that people who can make masterpieces stopped being born after the 90s instead of realizing that's just your music taste then you're naive. It's correct that some pop music today is more superficial and just quick bucks, but there are still real artists today who make masterpieces and some of them are also doing pop, you just need to dig a bit. The influences are there and todays musicians are as influenced by the older generations as much as you

My husband and I grew up with Guns n Roses on the radio. When November Rain came out we were actually in the final days of our sons life and he died in October of that year. When you mentioned a religious aspect to this song and the band, that's what we felt from them and this song. It was so moving to us that we had wanted to play it during his funeral but decided at the last minute not to. To this day whenever we hear November Rain we stop what we're doing, look at each other, and acknowledge our son, God, and each other. Our 34th wedding anniversary is this June. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and finding this song. ❤️

Really appreciate your in depth reaction to this classic, masterpiece of a song. I have to give you huge props for noticing the look on the bride's face. I haven't seen anyone else catch that. This song is based on a short story, which is what it said at the end that got blocked off. In the story, the bride commits suicide after the wedding. The songs lyrics, if you think about them long and hard talk of a person who is battling some demons. Maybe they both are. I think he is trying to convince her and himself that life can be good. Her death puts him in a place of self medicating (start of the video) and nightmares (end). It's quite heavy. I really loved your analogy of the reason for the music switch up at the end. I think you were spot on. For sure, all the rain references in the video and lyrics also have to do with the darkness, chaos and anxiety of her death. Deep stuff.

This was a bit of a departure from their 'bread & butter' hard rock sound. This does prove that these guys were actually very good musicians - Axl Rose (vocals, piano), Duff McKagan (Seattle born & bred on bass) & Slash (guitar) in particular. Slash's solos are sheer brilliance in my opinion. Arguably his best work within GNR full stop. The arrangement is terrific and the strings were a stroke of utter genius. This is my personal favourite GNR song.

I cannot think of a guitarist who's solos fit the songs as well as Slash's. It's almost like listening to an additional verse. They always had a bit of a grove to them and it didn't have that feel of showing off that a lot of the lead guitarists had back then.

Did you know the Axl Rose locked himself in his studio for weeks to create all these songs? It was a nearly obsessive drive to create these master pieces. Your comment of being on this world for a purpose made the think of that detail. By the way, this son is part of a trilogy: "November rain". "Don't cry" and "Estranged"... @LFR JOJ also check out these gems: "COMA" or "Dead horse." Laslty, a cool way to compare their early days and the last stuff before they broke up are these two (cover) songs: "Nice boys ( don't play rock n roll)" ( album: Lies) and "Down on the farm" ( Album The Spagetti Incident) Those two rock like hell. Let me know what you think:)

Well, to be perfectly accurate, the songs aren't actually connected, nor are they in themselves based on Without You. Don't Cry and November Rain were both actually written shortly after the band got together, before Del James wrote Without You. There was actually a version of Don't Cry that was recorded in the Appetite sessions, which (obviously) didn't make it on the final cut of that album. Estranged, meanwhile, was written about Axl's relationship with Erin Everly falling apart. The video for November Rain was heavily inspired by Without You, the videos for Don't Cry and Estranged not so much. The video for Don't Cry was more based on the mental health issues Axl had been going through and the collapse of his relationship with Erin. The video for Estranged was more based on the collapse of his relationship with Stephanie Seymour and his wish to get himself in a better mental health state. The three songs and the three videos are not an interconnected whole in the same way that, for example, Pink Floyd's The Wall was. Rather, they are only considered a trilogy because they were three videos that were produced with cinematic production values and told compelling stories. Also, it's worth noting that Estranged was not originally going to be the third; the plan had originally been to shoot a video for Coma and have that be the third video of the so-called trilogy, but the plan changed after Axl and Stephanie broke up (incidentally, the plan would have also had Stephanie serving as a common factor in the videos, as the plan was for her to have a central role in the video for Coma as well).

It's passion and pure power, the perfect mix. For me only classical music can compete. I'm talking about rock, but I love blues, funk, jazz, soul ecc ecc. Check it out
