The Japanese word used specifically refers to a non-affiliated (i.e not part of any temple, basically a lay monk I think is the term in English?) Buddhist priest, so I suppose Ascetic Blaze is a fitting translation since it's a combo of "Fire" + a variant of the term used for a lay priest (in Buddhism), thus "Hiboushi". Also as a double meaning it could be metaphorically be said to be a "fire that only burns that which needs to be burned", i.e a totally controlled fire, which the technique clearly is, as it doesn't release any fires to spread to the buildings etc in the surroundings

the ninjutsu in this show is kinda scientific, gabimaru isn’t creating fire out of thin air, he has oils on his body that ignites and creates fire, he is immune to his fire but not the smoke so it is technically a magic way
