Hiromichi shinohara claims are often disputed, most believe his claims were over exaggerated, soviet lost 207 planes and it is hard to believe 1/4 of it was done by single person and specially in dog fight because a lot of the soviet planes were destroyed while on the ground, my understanding is that battle of the kalkhin gol could have been avoided, both parties had small skirmishers here and there but there was nothing serious, and what I can tell is that both the soviets and the japanese didn't wanted this conflict since they both were expecting and engaging in another conflict, but the Japanese air force of the kwantung army first attacked the soviet air base without the permission from the Japanese army, thus destroying multiple of soviet planes while they were still on the grounded, and escalade the situation, but also gave the japanese aerial advantage at the beginning and the majority of the battle. His story is often seen as a fabricated story in a attempt to save face by the air force of the kwantung army for losing the battle, by creating an story of an ace pilot who single handedly shot down multiple planes.

Malaysia's Battle of Bukit Chandu, 42 men from the Malayan Regiment took on 13,000-15,000 japanese troops in hope to protect the area behind the hill, which protects the hospital and ammunitions. Not a single troop surrendered and rejected the japanese officer's threat for killing them if their uniforms are not removed. They are tortured and hung upside down on a tree, they are later stabbed to death. A memorial museum is built on that hill, the tree where their dead bodies are hung on is still there. After their deaths, the British surrendered the land to the japanese, their last stand was wasted by the British.

First Sgt Leonard Funk is my wife's uncle. He was with the 82nd Airborne and in the Battle of the Bulge him and his squad took 80 German prisoners. He went back alone for support, while he was gone his small squad was captured by a German squad, and when he came back, the officer demanded his surrender in German. He laughed and and pretended he didn't understand, which caught the Germans off guard and making them laugh too. All the while he was unsliging his Thompson like we was complying, only to swing it around and mow the Germans down, yelling for his squad to take the weapons and fight back or take the Germans captive, which they did. Plot twist, he spoke fluent German despite what you'd read. He won the medal of Honor for that. He also snuck behind enemy lines to a bar frequented by German soldiers and officers. Killed a guy, took his uniform, out drank a spy, and had the whole garrison who was unwinding before a fight run away, since he told them that they were getting ready to send everyone to the front lines. He didn't get an award for that because he took off his uniform. I think he was in the OSS based on stories I heard. But he didn't talk about his service much, just that he'd jump out of airplanes with a dog in his bag. And he'd always have root beer barrel candies for the kids and he'd swim the Newell, PA bend in the river with the kids on his back acting like a boat or submarine, making the noises and diving under. He could still do a 10 count until his dying day.
