I often have packages shipped to a UPS store and marked "Hold For ". The is a $5 fee for them doing this, but for some of my packages, it is well worth it. For Amazon purchases, I use Amazon Locker whenever possible.

What I don't understand is why those packadges are on the porch? Where I live, a delivery person is never allowed to leave a package on a doorstep or porch unattended. He or she has to ring the bell and hand the package to the homeowner. If nobody is home, he may ask a neighbour to accept the package, and when he or she does, he has to slip a note in the mailbox that the package is with the neighbour. If there are no neighbours or they don't want to accept the package, the delivery person has to take it to a service point. He has to leave a note in the mailbox saying that he tried to deliver a package, but nobody was home. With that note and an ID, the recipient can pick up the package at the service point. That is why there are no porch pirates here.

How many years has it been since you got a package? While that may have been the norm 10-20 years ago, it definitely isn’t happening now. With so many people ordering goods online the delivery service would go broke following those steps in this day and age. Besides, it’s illegal to put anything into someone’s mailbox. With USPS possibly the only exception, you cannot place anything in someone else’s mailbox. Legally you would have to address the note properly along with putting a stamp on it and have the post office deliver it to the person’s mailbox. 📬🧮

That does happen here as well, but usually the time slot is rather wide. They state, for instance, that a delivery will be made on July 7th between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. I just ordered something. The item I ordered will be delivered between July 12th and July 18th. No time was stated! That may come later, when the delivery service gets the package.

They used to do that here in the UK but we have the same problem now, many of them getting lazier and lazier and just leaving the package on the doorstep or I have had packages delivered to a neighbour and no card through the door to let me know, fortunately I have good honest neighbours!

All of this because the shipping companies don't want to take the extra time & cost to deliver the packages properly! Who's bright idea was it to just leave packages outside on the door step anyways? Who started this ridiculous procedure? I say, get rid of all of the delivery companies, ship packages U.S.P.S. or Canada Post & if there is no one home to receive the package, then leave a card & drop it off at a local postal station for the customer to pick up at their convenience.

I live in Canada, therefore, I have never received any mail in the U.S. In Canada, if you receive a package that does not fit in your mailbox, our Canada Post workers must knock on your door. If there is no answer, they must put a notification card in your mailbox informing you that you have a package; that it was attempted to be delivered that day; and that because you weren't home, you can pick it up 'after' a 24 hr period from the time filled in on the card - at your local post office.

I was just thinking if it would be possible to get an Amazon box and then fill it with concrete.
