I'm planning on getting an RX-8 one day and adding a little pep in its step was relatively difficult for the Renesis, especially its side exhaust ports. This new exhaust porting sounds like the RX-8 can finally see some real power gains like the RX-7 and not worry about issues of heat, back pressure, and early engine death with modifying the exhaust. I'm thinking this will add about 15 or maybe 20 more horsepower than the stock setup

Another brilliant video, well explained and showing clear experience. Your explanation of what part the carbon buildup plays is also of particular merit. I've heard of older rx8 engines failing for unclear reasons. Maybe some of those suffered a chunk of carbon belting around also. One question though, wouldn't the carbon piece simply breakup on impact with the rotor or seal?

You question and comments are excellent. In fact carbon is not just a killer in these engines but is THE killer in these engines. To directly answer your question. I'm on the same boat. What are the power gains? Any info at all on that specific information?
@rx7specialties2036 жыл бұрын
The numbers will vary depending on other equipment that the car has. If the engine is coupled with a turbo then the gains will be exponentially higher. The gains will not be noticed much at all unless you have a free flow header exhaust system. At that point the engine can breath so the porting and exhaust system compliment each other. But the curve is not linear, the torque is increased with the exhaust porting alone but again, not as a constant percentage increase. At the peak its around 4-5%, The intake will be noticed on top end mainly and might yield a peak of 17 HP . The beat way to obtain max power / torque is to use an Adaptronics ECU or at minimum a Mazda edit to smooth out the weaker areas . All said, the gains can be quite noticeable. I do suggest that the exhaust porting is a must for reliability reasons more then anything to get the heat out but never plan to do just intake / exhaust porting only to see the highest gains.

The other thing I wanted to do was use the fd rotor housings with rx8 side housings that way I can keep a nice low loopy idle for better throttle response but increase exhaust flow at higher rpm. Can I also keep a racing beat street port or it would interfere with the exhaust port? Hello! I would like to buy an Rx-8 myself, but I feel like the engine life, and fuel consumption can be an issue. Can the Rx-8 be used as a daily driver? Can this kind of porting aid fuel usage and improve engine life? Can Rx-8 be turbocharged without low compression rotors? How can you make more power without agressive porting? Thanks for your answer. David
@Ben-rm9jx5 жыл бұрын
David you need to be committed to this relationship(relationship with car). First if you want a rx8 you can NOT expect good gas mileage and the engine life is 60,000-120,000 miles depends on if you maintain it correctly(example:shut down procedure and burning away the carbon after a start especially after a cold start).Second yes it can if its completely stock no bridge port(if you have a bridge port is significantly reduces drivability).Third no definitely not the fuel millage is worse(say you get 18 highway right now if you bridge port it you might get 12-15 mpg)and it depends on how you treat it but typically it reduces engine life.Forth it can but the reliability is iffy and you have a higher chance of premature apex seal failure.Fifth is simple street port or half bridge(if you want better drivability and mpg compared to a full bridge port go with street port).
@Staf00plz4 жыл бұрын
@@Ben-rm9jx Don't bother w/ a bridge port on a Renesis engine, a good street port is the way to go. I'm talking about intake porting btw. For exhaust porting, what u saw in this video is prolly the best porting service available anywhere that I've seen. Yes, the RX8 can totally be daily driven. The porting shown in this video will definitely improve engine life, but i dunno about fuel usage. And yes the RX8 can be turbocharged using the stock 10.0:1 compression rotors, however don't expect to go above 1 bar of boost. Slapping on a turbo will yield anywhere from 300-400hp usually.

Did you compare any of these different pieces of information? @rx7specialties2036 жыл бұрын
Bridge port does not have the same effect on Renesis engines as it does on peripheral exhaust engines. Its a misconception. People thing bridge port is an automatic power gain and a brap idle. All this port does on an RX8 is confuses the ECU with such low manifold vacuum at idle and the top end gains are not nearly as tune able as the side post exhaust timing can not be played with like it can on an RX7 engine. In short we would not compare these ports on a Renesis because we dont suggest bridge port on this engine

I know there is turbos to increase air outtake, but couldn't you make something that sucked the exhaust out? Can anyone explain why you couldn't do that?
@zafosinferno8884 жыл бұрын
to answer your latter question, putting energy to suck out the exhaust gases just makes no sense, that s why noone does it. An equal length header with merge collector utilizes the venturi effect and sucks the exhaust gases out(exhaust gas scavenging), problem is that on the renesis the middle exhaust port is shared by both rotors, creating an exhaust pulse overlap which is very bad for exhaust scavenging. Gives around 20 hp more. A bridge port with exhaust overlap also pushes exhaust gases out by sending some of the mixture directly to the exhaust(increases emissions, solution would be direct injection). Problem is, on the renesis the ports dont overlap, by design. Built2Apex claims he ll mill billet side plates that do overlap and are direct injected. Generally the engine is a mess and didnt get as much love as the other 13Bs which is sad. It has so much potential. With some custom milled parts you could easily get reliable 400rwhp, incredible response with pretty much the same emissions. Hope it helps :)
