He wrote this song for his brother so it is extremely emotional for him. Especially playing it as his funeral. You should listen to a different version. Vince Gill has an amazing voice. There are soooooo many artists from sooooo many genre’s. As someone said ‘he stopped loving her today’ by George Jones. Also try ‘how can I help you to say goodbye’ by Patty Loveless.

Vince Gill has one of the best voices....I believe that he started writing this song after the death of Keith Whitley who was also a great singer that passed but didn't finish it until his brother passed. One of my favorite Vince Songs is When I Call Your Name.....cold chills!

Patty’s voice! So distinctive & earthy. In addition to a great solo career, Vince was a guitar session musician & sang background harmonies.

Vince Gill is a legend and on top of that he is a good guy. He put on a concert in my home town when I was a kid. He let my family in for free because we couldn't afford tickets.

Vince sort of did the guitar solo there for a bit to just re-center himself again so he could sing, it wasn't a planned part of the performance, the band just kept playing on and you could see Patty come up and rub him on the shoulder to help him get through.

Ok listen to he stopped loving her today by George Jones. Also try to listen to this song at another time. His voice is amazing although this video shows how emotional this is for him it's not the best at showcasing his voice.

This song always reminds me of one of my brothers. I lost him when he was only 39. He was one of my Heroes. My Dad was the other. Haters go somewhere else please. This just isn't where you need to be. ☮️ Another Vince Gill and Patty Lovelace song is When I call your name.

This song was played at both my parents funerals, while carrying their caskets to the grave from the hearse . You would suggest the original video, where Vince is not trying to fight thru grief. Another song please Vince an Patty When I call your name.

This isn’t the best vocal version, but it’s the best version if you want a good cry. He was just too choked up on this occasion to hit the soaring high notes. This poor man cries at the drop of a hat and they keep asking him to sing at the funerals of his friends.

George Jones was a country artist legend. Vince Gill started his career with a huge break...getting to tour with George. He was a mentor to Vince. Recommend George Jones live version of He Stopped Loving Her Today. This performance was at the Grand Ole Opry and a tribute show of George Jones passing away. Vince was torn up over his death. Vince wrote this song @ his own brother dying. Mark

George Jones, A.K.A. the opossum, was a country legend. "No Show Jones" was known to have a drinking problem and, if he even showed up, he was often too drunk to perform. He did straighten up later in his life, but he had to fight for it. George died on April 26. 2013. There is a famous story, of when he was married to fellow country legend, Tammy Wynette (The first lady of country music), and he ran out of booze and wanted to go get some more, but Tammy wouldn't let him have the keys to the car... Next thing she knew, she heard some noise in the yard, so she looked out the window and seen George going down the road on their old John Deere lawn tractor, going on a beer run... George did several duets with Tammy, all of which are worth checking out... Vince made a comment about "Not making shoes like that anymore" made me think of George's song "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes". George's biggest hit is "He Stopped Loving Her Today" from 1980... Fair warning though... in 2019, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked this song as the 4th saddest country song of all time... "Go Rest High On That Mountain" was number 17 on that list. Another touching story about George Jones, He was scheduled to play his latest song at the time, "Choices" at the 1999 CMA Awards show, but the powers that be decided George didn't have enough star power anymore, and dropped him from the show... Country star Alan Jackson (And legend in his own right) heard about this, and went on the stage, started singing his hit, "Pop a Top", but instead of finishing the song, he changed it over to George's song, "Choices" in protest to what they did to a country music icon... He got a standing ovation from the audience for it. George, watching from home, was touched. Here is a link to that performance, if you want to check it out... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnu5oWl8gpWUfpI
