Real site of the Battle of Bosworth 1485

This ongoing Video Diary by myself John Neal, sometimes known as John Longcroft-Neal, as the whim takes me.
TODAY’S SUBJECT IS another cycle trip calling in at the official site of the Battle of Bosworth 1485 creating the Tudor Dynasty in England.
GENERAL STUFF
I am retired from two careers of primary school teaching when I was deputy head of a Middle School and Primary School, and as a self employed Chalkboard Artist from 2002 until I reached the grand old age of 65 in 2016.
I play guitar and write songs and have written about 14 songs for the local BBC radio station. I run a weekly (weakly) evening Acoustic session at a local pub and have been doing so for 14 years now. I also started an afternoon acoustic session in a quite large cafe in Nuneaton. Both premises were former songwriting clients of mine.
Much of the music I use on this channel is taken from epidemicsound.com free to use on KZbin for a reasonable monthly fee, and sometimes I suffer you with my own music.
Gear that I use:
Mavic Mini Drone.
Iphone X for camera, generally front facing so I can see myself in frame. Super quality especially if I keep the lens clean.
Gimble is a Q2 Smooth by Zhiyun, I ought to use this more often because it was expensive.
Canon G7mk2
Rhode videomicro mic with iPhone (if necessary in the wind)
Rhode videomic to do voice over on computer
Video editing with Final Cut Pro X
Polarduck Mini Tripod for mobile phone. This is so good and under £10.00 I bought two.
Small Gorilla tripod but I tend to prefer the Polarduck.
Tall Tripod is a Velbon CX 540
Mono pod is a Manfrotto Compact MMC3-02 and is very useful for getting high angles that look like low flight drone shots and so easy to carry on my bike along with the mini tripod.

An excellent bit of history! I wonder how they determined that this was the actual battlefield. Someone must have found old weapons or a few battered bones. Warfare in those days was brutal beyond belief. A great big Thank You to John!

In particular they found cannon shot and ornamental badges of boars that denoted high rank of Richard’s army. Human bones were eaten by wandering dinosaurs. Sorry I’ve wandered off piste there.

If you go to the area you will see that the only high ground around is Ambion Hill. It has clear views for miles towards Shrewsbury where Henrys troops were marching from. field artillery shot and musketry was in its infancy, Bosworth was the first battle where such guns were used.. The night before battle Richard stayed at Sutton Cheney. The obvious route is into Ambion Hill skirting around the bogs towards Whitemoors and Fenn lane. Richard would have set up camp on the Sutton Cheney side of Ambion Hill. He would not have given up the high ground, that would have been madness.. However, I have no doubt having studied the area for the best part of 40 years that the canon and musketry would have been practiced and range found in the lower slopes at Fen Lane, the alleged site of the battle. This is the reason musket and canon shot was found around the Fen. The larger finds were of worked broken stone shot. This was a cheap and well known resource for testing canon fire as iron was expensive and not to be wasted. All this was taken as read for 500 years, that is until the EXPERTS came along with their research grants. They completely disregarded the fact that Fenn lane was a practice site because they found a Boar Badge not for once thinking it could have been dropped by a senior officer, apparently the only way you can lose a badge is in battle It is complete and utter bull that the battle took place at Fenn lane whilst completely surrendering the high ground of Ambion Hill. Without doubt the only logical place for the battle to have taken place was from Ambion Hill down towards Shenton and fleeing towards whitemoors for centuries an ancient memorial stone stood in a field in a dip where Richard was unhorsed. No logical thinking person who has any insight into military tactics could ever dispute that the Battle site was the lower slopes of Ambion Hill. .. . .

Fenn Lanes was a very important Roman Road too: the shortest route to Deva (Chester) from Camulodonum (Colchester, the provincial capital), via Ratae (Leicester). Where it meets Watling Street (Iter II, from London to Wroxeter) is of course Manduessedum (Mancetter), where Boudicca reportedly met her end in the Battle of Watling Street. So all in all, not one but two British royal dynasties were extinguished within a few miles of each other, although many centuries apart.

Really enjoyed visiting both Bosworth centre and Leicester on my last visit to UK. Did not know about Fenn Lane. Hmm didn't expect the video to stop so soon. "WE" beat Richard that time so no way is his ghost gong to do anything.

@@JRLNeal That would be good. When back in Cov I read a lot about her. My wife and I were also members of CADAS the archaeological society in Coventry and studied with Graham Webster at Birmingham Uni. We also found a feature on a summer dig we went on. Along with digs at the Lunt and Whitefriars. So anything like that would be great.
