i really appreciate how you specified that staying realistic is more important than being "positive." within self-help social media rhetoric I think there is an overuse of "staying positive," especially right now. we are all dealing with a global pandemic (that is not being taken seriously by government, in the US at least) so it makes sense that people are hurting and feeling down. i think we need to make space for those feelings and address our own individual situations so that we can move forward and heal. repressing emotions and appearing "positive" seems like a fast track to feeling worse later on.

I feel the exact same way you do about the Chinese envision of Tibet. I’m Chinese American and I’m proud of my Chinese heritage but my family and I are also Buddhist so it feels like I’m stuck. I dunno I feel ashamed sometimes with what the Chinese government has done and how that reflects on Chinese people. Cause I know the majority of Chinese people don’t feel the same way as the government but have to act like they do because of the social credit system. If they don’t agree with and support the government they’ll be outcasted or blacklisted. They’re stuck too
@chicpea6388
@chicpea6388 3 жыл бұрын
first of all, believing that chinese people hate/dislike the chinese govt or "dont feel the same way as the govt" but they cant do anything about it because the govt "controls" them is a lie the west has been spreading for a long time now. im not saying every mainlander is satisfied with their life and with the chinese govt but to say that most of them dont like the chinese govt is such a stretch. im southeast asian but i was taught mandarin by 2 mainland teachers and during the time i was taught by them, they often compared the chinese govt to my country's govt (which was kinda annoying ngl lol) and they expressed how grateful and thankful they are for the chinese govt. second, the whole "if you go against the government you get outcasted"...dont all countries do that? also, i dont think its wrong to "punish" someone who doesnt support something for all the wrong reasons. lastly, every non-chinese person and chinese diaspora needs to stop getting information about china from western media outlets, because the imperialist west has been spreading lies and propaganda about china (and other socialist/communist countries) for many years now and believing in their lies will lead to countries being invaded by the west (look up "manufacturing consent" on google). p.s.: sorry if my flowing isnt good, english is my second language and im autistic.
@phoeberoze
@phoeberoze 3 жыл бұрын
@@chicpea6388 Just wanted to note that I would definitely disagree with your point that 'don't all countries do that?' re outcasting/blacklisting citizens who disagree with their practices. The mark of a truly democratic country is that people are free to loudly disagree with their government without having their freedoms or rights threatened. The UK government is pretty crap but I'm protected in my right to protest and disagree with how our government runs things.

Im from HK and i always say when people ask me about China "hate the CCP, not the Chinese." Although the CCP is slowly eroding my home and its cultural identity, it will never be the fault of Chinese citizens who are also under the same shitty regime. However, I don't think I can agree with you when you say we shouldn't take these things personally when it is a personal issue for a lot of us because it dismisses the actual problem instead of addressing the actual exploitation of human rights by the CCP. (e.g. Uyghurs, HK, Taiwan, Tibet, etc.)

Great confession... I mean insights ^^. Changing town is never an easy thing, let alone going from solo living to living in couple. I never experienced the latter (I'm a hardened bachelor), but changing town, that I definitely did, moving from my native Belgium, where I grew up, did all my studies, and had all my childhood friends, to Taiwan, where I had my dad and some relatives, but knew nobody else, had no friends, and spoke only a broken mandarin, originally just for a year or 2, to get some experience in animation, then go back to Belgium... and I ended staying in Taiwan for 13 years ! Talk about a big change... So yeah, for that point, I know how it feels. Good luck, and glad you're already starting to find your marks in Montreal, living with your bf for the first time. It's great that you could identify so quickly what was getting to you, and that you both could talk it out straight off the bat. It's definitely gonna make both your lives easier. I'm glad that you decided to not trust your gut instinct to just fly off, that means you really value this relationship and want to commit to it more than your personal comfort. That is something I've never been able to go past. Like you, I'm also an equal introvert-extrovert (I guess that's your Gemini aspect, being 2-faced, and my libra personality, needing balance, although I'm more tilting towards the introvert side, being an INTP and all...I'm just too comfortable being on my own). Also agree that we need more realism, and not just blind positivity. While having some positivity is always great, saying "this is nice" when the house around you is burning down is not so nice... Better get the fuck out of the house, then ! Your take on life feels like more daoist than buddhist (when you mentioned that every positive has a bit of negative impact, and vice versa, it felt very yinyangesque). It seems you're not chinese just for show ^^ (doing qigong and all). I've got mixed feelings about you getting a manager. Sure in the short terms, that might mean more immediate sponsorships, and possible streamlined income, which is always a good thing... But in the long run, don't forget that managers... well, they manage. Their job is to make an organized profit, which is not exactly how I picture your channel to be, being more like a living journal intime (not so intime), that you spontaneously throw out to the world to see. I see this channel of yours grow organically, which would be countercurrent with the organization a manager would try to put on it (remember than most of the time, managers approach whoever talent, just to make them into the next big thing that could become a good cashcow... until it's completely spent and they leave it off the side of the road to jump onto the next next big thing. Sad to say, but most managers would be attracted to your channel because they see it's growing and can potentially become (very) profitable, not because they're aligned with your views on the life and the world, although they might be very good at making you believe so. Sooner than you'd think, when you think you're still in control of your channel, they'd already inceptionned some of their concepts into your videos, making you think it's your ideas while it's actually on their suggestions. And the sneaky thing, is that they wouldn't do it at once; They'd be patient and sneak their way one thing at a time, until your channel just looks like a regular make-up fashion youtube channel like you can find hundreds of thousands already. And that is most certainly not what you (and we)'d hope to see your channel becoming. I've never had agents myself, so I can't really say for sure, but throughout my decade in Taiwan, I've known several very talented musician or actors friends of similar age as you, signing up contracts that span for 7 years with agencies that basically treated them like cattle after the contract signup. And of course, contracts were marred with a clause that says that if the artists were to break off the contract, they'd have significant fees to pay off tot he management company, going into the millions of Taiwanese dollars ! So their career were basically screwed ! Now, sure, this was in Taiwan, and things are most probably not the same in Canada, but having myself a lot of artists friends, I've heard quite a fair share of these horror stories to be a bit suspicious of anything that looks remotely like an agent or agency. So I would say, thread with utmost caution when it comes to selling your rights (and years) to agents or managers, and read carefully the fineprints (basically, the smaller the font, the more you'd have to make absolutely sure to read it -AND understand it) before signing anything. I feel sorry for your loss of a good friend. Sometimes, even the greatest of friendships can fall apart without anyone really noticing. Jsut life takes a different path for each other, and sooner than you'd think, you guys just went from besties to friennemies. It happened to me, with my absolute best friend that I've known ever since my childhood. He's Chinese and I'm Taiwanese, but it never stopped us to be super good friends ever since our childhood. Unfortunately, that was hinging a lot on the fact that having both grown in Belgium, I didn't know nor did I cared about Taiwan. Now that I've been living 13 years there and of course, have learned a ton of things about it, met a few thousands of its fantastic inhabitants, discovered its fantastic history and different tribes, and made friends with a good lot of them, of course I care much more about what I call my second home, now much more than before. And he being Chinese and thinking that Taiwan belongs to China, and refusing to listen to anything I would have to say on the topic, despites me now knowing so much more than him on the subject, that is definitely driving a big wedge between us, and this man that I've been calling a brother all my life, is now someone who simply became so toxic to me (the past year, we've been only arguing each time we saw each other) that I kinda had to get him off of my life, simply because we didn't share the same political point of view (among other things, it's not the only one, but it's definitely one of the bigger contentious points)... Alas, c'est la vie... ... Like our friends the american like to say ^^. For the longest time, I always thought good friendship was indestructible, much more so than love. And for a long time, it rang true. But as I recently realized, even the ones that look the sturdiest could still crumble one day. So cherish each one you got as much as possible, because the only fact that doesn't change in life, is that everything changes ! Everything is in perpetual movement. And if it doesn't move anymore, then that means it's dead already. But glad to see that in your wisdom, you could actually open yourself to another friend in the process. Good on you. Let's hope this one will stay and blossom beautifully. Anyway, that's just my 2am rambling. Always lovely to hear you rambling about your life, and looking forward to see your next one, and see how you cope with your second week at your BF's place, and see if you're still so zen about it ^^. Cheers !

This is such a nice video, I feel like I'm a great listener just by watching this lol I honestly always thought that relationships would be so hard for me because I like my alone time too much, even if I like someone I wouldn't want to be with them as a couple. Mostly girls complain about guys not being emotionally there for them, atleast that's the part I see. And when I hear that I'm always thinking"omg that cold detached boyfriend is who I'd be as a partner" This video showed that a relationship doesn't have to function in a certain idealistic way and I appreciate that. Yea the test said im an ENFJ and I was so confused at first because I like going out with friends and meeting new people and I guess that makes me extroverted but I also definitely need alone time or I get kinda rude. I think that there's definitely a necessary balance that works for everyone in terms of being by yourself or with others

You should look into the different types of introverts! I’m pretty extroverted as well in the sense that I love meeting new people and it’s so fun but once I pass a certain threshold of fun time, I am absolutely DRAINED and I need to recover in bed at home. But thats the characteristic of a social introvert! It’s really interesting to read about

Thank you for speaking about Chinese occupancy in Tibet . As a Tibetan , I really appreciate it and I think it’s important for us (as humans) to not hate other people based on their country’s government/ political agenda and instead try to work to understand each other better . Sending u lots of love and positive vibes 🥗💕

I think that being put on the side and having girls telling you that you are "just flirting with all the boys" is something that has happened to a lot of gemini persons! I was speaking about that with some of my gemini girl friends, and what happens is that people just don't understand that we are just a very sociable sign and kind of enjoy being appreciated ? (I mean, who doesn't ?) I really agree on the idea that people enter and leave your life when they are meant to do it. I also believe it happens if you are ready for it and in the right mental/spiritual place ! And now I understand why I was feeling so connected to your channel: I am a gemini, ENFP as well as ambivert haha ! Congrats on your first podcast, I had such a great time !!

holyyy shit girl I resonated with this sooo hard, I moved in with my bf after a year in 2019 & we had basically spent every day together before that so moving in was a breeze but quarantine hit and it was a lil rough at first being together 24/7 but just making that early morning time helped soo much, we still have our own rooms in our apt so when we need space we can just go back to our room and chill from afar but we've been having fun, truly my best friend. I wish you both well & thank u for sharing the realities of working and growing healthily together with someone

Leah, thanks for this podcast. I liked it so much. I was listening to you while having my breakfast and washing dishes. So it felt like you was in my kitchen. I like your solution about sharing space and the idea of working sometimes in a library. This idea has never come to my mind, but now I'm going to apply it to my life too.You guys did a nice job. Thanks again, for this little creation, I really enjoyed listening to it.

I already listened to the podcast but I love that you speak about addressing issues and relationships in a very spiritual and Buddhist aligned way (based on my small understanding of Buddhism)! this format of chit-chat videos is my favorite, I listen/watch to them while working out or cleaning! Kinda pathetic and weird of me but listening to you makes me feel less alone and gives me some sort of positive imput. Love this so muchh and saw that you might make this podcast a weekly thing so know that you have my full support! also on another note, the way you emphasize on how you admire and love experiencing new people and just making real connections is so inspiring to me, whether it's through saying how you want to include more languages in your vids, building a community/shared housing in the future or even having a simple picnic with others. I am also the type to crave and lovee building memories and moments that way so it's nice to see there's someone else who shares that, keep it up and keep being you!

I relate to this sm! I'm also an Aquarius moon and also a "flight" person. This made me reflect more becuase I just ended the longest relationship I've had; mainly because of the lack of time for myself. Things could've been better but it genuinely felt like I was the only one having issues. His reasoning somehow invalidated my feelings since he said I've been making excuses. this made me feel better
