we need to understand existing technology if any used, volume of data, integrating the current technology to cloud, understand the front end and backend requirement, any change required with the existing process/technology then we proceed.

We can use AWS Outposts(on-prem) which will connnect to AWS Services through Direct Link and can sustain in Hybrid Model for 3 weeks. During this time database can be dumped to AWS . And application can be designed for cloud-enabled after which this hybrid model can be fully be turned to cloud application.

What do you mean by migrating retail stores to online? Are they going to shut down retail stores and conduct business online like Amazon? Or is it that they use offline/in store IT system that's disconnected from internet and now you want to bring that part to the cloud

Usually in these kind of scenarios are we allowed to seek extra information that we do in a typical requirement gathering like type of applications , count of assets , sizes etc or we have to go with lot of assumptions?

@Rakesh, this is the only one question in the entire technical round the interviewer asks. You will be given 60 to 90 min to solve. You are allowed to ask as many questions as to the interviewer . For clarification and questions, you will be given 10-15 min. On top of that, you are allowed to add some assumptions.

Some corporates have a group of Architect and mid-size company have a single Architect (Assumption) .so from a developer to an Architect career change which one is best and what is the merit and demerits?

To be honest, 3 weeks is not even realistic timelines for designing + implementation.

That is the strategy the interviewer come up with while interviewing, you must have the valid points to object. What are your points to standby the statement, the 3 weeks time is not sufficient?

In one of the recent interviews for a 25 min the interview panel just asked how to design a new application with components followed by do you know React. Its so surprising to see that they expect Architects to be hands on React frameworks which people like us dont focus on coding these days

Hello @rexsam3134, Thanks for sharing your experience here. I don’t know what role the interview was. If the role was infra / platform solution architect, I would not expect questions on React. But if the role is for App solution architect expecting the architect to code is normal. We don’t need to be a core developer but have always some hands-on on coding. Hope you can share more about the role for further discussion.

This is not the right way of interviewing Architect(s) and so we should avoid joining such organizations.

I have the opposite objection, that I have been an architect in roles, but also a key developer, as I was the most skilled member of the team. I actually altered the titles on my resume from saying architect to engineer, or developer / architect, because people kept asking if I was able to do development anymore, seeming surprised at the idea that I would be competent for roles that involved coding.

Timeline is one of the key items solution architects must keep in mind while answering the question to the interviewer. You must ask the question about how urgent it would be and what is the compelling reason to act.
