We’re already so used to Mike Henry’s voice, we’re gonna notice a difference no matter how good Windell Piece is going to be. Last night in Australia we had an incident where a person who had threatened our Prime minister, allegedly held an ISIL flag and in a police station was approached by police for routine interrogation. He went nuts and stabbed both police officers several times, and that was when they fatally shot him. These police understand the risk in their job, and shot as last resort at great risk and injury to themselves. This is courage, not totting guns at unarmed civilians with their hands up and shooting them from 20 yards several times. And a huge part of it is strict Gun regulation, so the police can feel safer doing their job and have more tolerance to bad behaviour from public. Result: fewer policemen and public die. Time to learn the basics US get your shit in order; your gift card expiry date laws are more advanced than gun regulation.
@miuramike83109 жыл бұрын
+sushanalone I'm sorry it took me a year to respond, but I just saw your posting. You are right on the money! I'm a 49 year old white man who has lived in the US since I was 16, I was born & raised in Sydney. The police in the US are a nightmare, I've never been in trouble with the law thankfully. But it's impossible not to meet people who have been arrested, assaulted by the police, been in prison, get hassled constantly by them. Black & Hispanic people get the worst treatment, but white people (who can't afford a great lawyer) are also targeted. Targeted is the appropriate word. Getting pulled over in my car is always scary, they are known to plant guns & drugs on people. I seldom get stopped for anything, but if I have a black person in my car, I can expect to get pulled over. I know a 76 year old black woman who got dragged from her car (she has arthritis and couldn't get out of the car fast enough for the cop that had his gun on her) thrown to the ground, handcuffed & kicked in the stomach. Whenever there is ANY issue with a cop, 3 or 4 more cop cars show up for "back-up". The police claimed she was a drug dealer and the car was stolen (they wrote up a fake report) and she would not co-operate with the officer. It turns out the police were looking for a red Ford Taurus, she was driving a red Mercury Sable. Did any of the police get in trouble? No. She also knew that if she fought them in court, she or her family would be in danger. She is just happy to be alive, they could have killed her. This is just the reality of living here: the weekly or daily mass shootings, the huge amount of guns, the indifferent nature of most Americans to the less fortunate. I live in Connecticut near Newtown (where the 20 kids & 6 teachers were shot to death) which is not a gun crazy state. I know few people that have guns, unless they live in a city or hunt. But if you live in the "bible belt", especially Texas or Florida, guns are all over. People have gun racks on their trucks all over. In some states you can have a gun in church, in schools, and in bars (what could go wrong there?). Whenever there is a mass shooting, gun sales increase by thousands, because (mostly) white people are afraid out black president will ban & recall all guns....and their bibles...and their freedom. I wish I were joking. Watch Fox News sometime, millions of people (mainly older white people) get their news from it AND don't believe it's right-wing propaganda. I was sitting in traffic in Boston one day and heard machine gunfire from 3 different directions. Nothing you can do. The majority of cops are also ex-military, many have been in Iraq & Afghanistan, so they are always ready to kill. Much of the police equipment is military. Americans are taught to glorify our "proud warriors", you can never say anything negative about the military. But the ones I know are severely damaged, physically and/or mentally. This is something to be proud of? Bill Maher gets plenty of hate from conservatives, he is honest and they deny reality. Check out "bill maher open carry" here, that vide says it all about the United States Of Insanity". Next spring I am moving back to Australia, I can't wait. Sure, I know there are problems there too, but it's so much better than the US in more ways than I can list here. No more long, brutal winters! Every time I go there to visit relatives, I hate to leave. Flying for 30 hours is the only thing I dread.

Because he didn't respond to the police German and English) he was shot in the leg. He survived. Now if this had been the state he would have been shot dead. Michael Brown was not a small kid, and even if he did have his hands up but was moving towards the cop, I kinda understand shooting. Was it unfortunate? Yes definitely. Would it help help to train the cops to better handle such situations? Yes definitely. For instance train to shoot in the arm or leg both tend to be non-lethal wounds.
@heynonnymouse10 жыл бұрын
At a certain point more "training" becomes an excuse. It's basically saying "we'll do better next time", but it keeps on happening. When the officer and the police department are already corrupt, more training does nothing other than deflect attention away from punishing those responsible. Brown had his hands up. He wasn't "charging," he was surrendering, and he should have been given the chance to do so, regardless of what occurred beforehand. Training officers to shoot at legs is used in Europe, but can still be lethal or crippling. However I worry about American police adopting this tactic as it might lead to even more shootings. European police are very cautious about pulling the trigger to begin with. What we need goes beyond training, because the actual rules of conduct that they would be trained to follow are what are producing these situations as well as protecting the officers from prosecution afterwards. We need different rules of engagement that emphasize de-escalation, that allow the suspect to surrender, and don't require the officer to continue shooting until the perceived threat has passed (aka the corpse stops twitching). We also need independent oversight, body cams, police departments that actually fire bad cops and don't hire someone else's problem officer (Wilson was formerly an employee of a PD which was disbanded due to violence and corruption) and a Justice Department that is willing to actual bring cops to trial.

DRIVING WHILE BLACK I been turning this over in my head for 2 weeks and I think I could be dead if I had given a different response, here it goes: I turned off 103rd on to Torrence going north, the suv in front of me is doing about 20 and blocking both lanes. I pull over to the right lane because I want to turn right at the corner and I figure by then the suv will make a choice. Suddenly I hear a siren whooping, I'm stopping, the suv pulls in front of me. another suv pulls up to my side and the guy driving starts hollaring, "You in a hurry, You in a hurry?" I am perplexed!!!! I'm looking at 2 white guys in a silver suv (fancier than my tax dollars should be buying the PO PO) and nobody has flashed a badge. I say, "no I'm not in a hurry." The suv in front of me pulls off. I hear Starsky (a description) saying come on man let's go and I can tell he's motioning below the window level to Hutch, but Hutch ain't done, I guess he hasn't sufficiently shook the Old Black lady up! So Hutch hollar's again, "Where you going like you in a hurry?" I say, "Just doing some errands" Starsky says, "Man come on leave this lady alone" Hutch hollars, (I don't know why he's hollaring) "You watch your speed out here" Starsky says, "Man come on" and Hutch speeds off! I kept hearing "be slow to anger" but I was mad! I thank God for changing me, who I am today and who I used to be can make the difference between life and death. Don't reach for your phone, Keep your hands on the wheel. Don't go for your wallet or in your purse. If the police is hollaring, speak softly, do not appear aggressive at all. One of the sad things about this is if you unknowingly give the po po a reason to blow a hole in you, they will blame it on you and there are people who will start a dialog with the media and help them to smear your name, disparage your character and help the police substantiate why they shot you. Be humble so you don't get humiliated or worse killed. Thank you God for saving me from what could have happened when I WAS DRIVING WHILE BLACK! (Thank God Starsky wasn't an A hole too, I'd probably be dead)

I'm assuming you're white. What are your experiences with racism?
@brentacusg719110 жыл бұрын
Noimnotgoingto Sharemyrealname My experience is that people of color automatically assume that I'm racist or prejudice because I'm white. Just as it is wrong for white people to assume that Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Arabs, etc, are (insert discriminatory comment), so too is it wrong for other people to assume that I'm racist just because I'm white. Have you seen the commercials for the new TV show, Blackish? If their was a TV show called Whitish, all Hell would break loose. lol Don't get me wrong, I honestly don't have a problem with the show. The problem I have is the blatant double standard. If there can't be a show called Whitish because it's discriminatory why is one called Blackish ok? Also, in regards to this video, according to Pierce, the cop didn't say or do anything racist! The problem was this cops lack of training. So why then is this being spun as a racist issue? Just because this cop happened to be white? "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." I believe that that goes for everyone, and I can't wait for the day when those words are a total reality everywhere, for everyone.
@heynonnymouse10 жыл бұрын
He was suggesting that it is racist not because the cop used racist language but because his reaction was over the top yet a part of a larger pattern where black people, particularly men, are treated aggressively by the police. Certainly a better trained officer might behave more professionally, but at a certain point, we can't continue to blame officer training for every single mishap. There are bad police officers, and their behavior is protected by their departments and the justice system. Just because the cop didn't scream racial epithets doesn't mean that his actions weren't racially motivated. Racism no longer presents itself overtly. People have learned to their unacceptable opinions to themselves. Many people no longer have outright racist beliefs and don't consider themselves to be racist, and compared to their predecessors, they're not. Yet there is still an undercurrent of discrimination that colors every part of our society. Black people are viewed with suspicion first and foremost. While bias based upon perceived racial divides can go in any direction, in America, white people are the default color. A white person has to earn suspicion, and even if they misbehave, they are often given little punishment in comparison to black people who must overcome suspicion and face more frequent stops, searches, arrests, and convictions which carry harsher sentences. Advocating for a color blind society which stops mentioning racism really only favors white people who just want to stop hearing about other peoples issues. It doesn't make racism go away, it denies those suffering the attention needed to resolve their issues.
@brentacusg719110 жыл бұрын
I like that word, 'epithets.' I'll have to keep that one in mind. I agree that his reaction was over the top but that doesn't necessarily imply racism. The scenario could have played out the exact same way had it been a black cop or a white driver. While it is entirely possible that this cops over the top actions were racially motivated there is no compelling reason in Pierces story to make us assume that to be the case. If there is no reason to think that's the case then why imply it? That was the point I was trying to make earlier. It doesn't happen often at all but when people jump to a conclusion that I'm somehow racist, discriminatory, or prejudice simply because I'm white it sucks. It sucks big time. I don't deny that racism still rears it's ugly head from time to time. All I'm saying is I wish everyone wouldn't be so hasty to imply thing about others without knowing anything about them. And that goes both ways. I'm definitely not advocating for a color blind society and I agree that there is still much work to be done to achieve true equality (whatever that might be). I think the best way to achieve that is through open and honest conversation much like this one. Thanks for the reply!

@@miker6546 The part they *ALWAYS* leave out is that black behavior is the deciding factor. Don't fight cops, resist arrest, try to grab their guns (like Mike Brown did) and you won't get shot. It's that fucking simple. Also the propaganda around this issue has grossly skewed people's estimation of how many unarmed blacks die each year. The number is usually less than 20, and usually closer to 10, and of those 99% have resisted arrest. The others are down to mistaking cellphones for guns or something excusable if tragic.
