I love your reviews of Industry. When I was watching the episode, I generally understood what was going on, but you really go in-depth to explain everything so thanks for that.

I think what Nicole from Mellon Mercer meant was that she knew Harper's pitch at the play was pretty insane, as she offered her to short USDYEN when the USD was wildly appreciating just before the close. That's why she remembered the time a Lehman Brother's (shadiest firm during the 2008 crisis) sales analyst even followed her to the toilet pitching her MBS, which in the end was pretty close to garbage. Nevertheless, love the series and the vid explanations! Can't wait for season 2 :D

All these graduates seem to have some knowledge of what they are doing. How much training do banks give new analysts with models,valuations and analysis are they required to have know how to do this prior to joining?>

Hi Adnan, Most of what we are seeing is the trading floor and not IBD, so they won't be building many models or doing valuations (as they would do in IBD and Research). Generally, most sizable firms have a comprehensive training program for both the markets and also the investment banking new hires. They vary from a few weeks to 7 weeks at the outside. While they will cover all the fundamentals, they do it very fast, and any prior preparation will stand you in good stead. The more advanced content is largely covered by learning on the job. However, I do think the show greatly exaggerates the level of responsibility the new hires will have. They would be closely monitored by their manager, and generally won't be taking client meetings or making sizable trades for a while. - Alastair

What I don't quite get is how, when the price of dollars increases, the P&L on Harper's trade goes from $20,752.08 to -$20,752.08. How can the market make the P&L flip to the exact negative of the original number?
@milomitchener4166 Жыл бұрын
It depends on the intervals, if the intervals of USDGBP is 1 cent then the scale of ownership could change by double that with 2 cents

@@milomitchener4166 And this is why Industry is such an excellent show. A tiny mathematical detail which would make no sense to an outsider actually has a perfectly reasonable, if not obscure, explanation.

because this guy is wrong.. its the notional that's the mistake, not the direction , client buys cable regardless. notional is 50musd not 50mgbp. she has to sell the extra GBP she bought
