Tituba was one of the only survivors in Salem. Had a husband and lived her life instead of meeting on Gallows Hill. Don't forget who was murdered by the puritans....all European women and men.

They only hung 13 witches 😂😂😂 Wikipedia tells a much different story than what is carved into a plaque in Salem, MA at the memorial. LMAO. Please do look that up plaque and all. The story here had not much to do with Salem, more internet embellishment. THEN Compare to Europe in the 1500’s & on. True genocide. Hundreds of thousands.

Well, if there were any practitioners of witchcraft then it were the Europeans who as Puritans would have used their cultural English sorcery. No indigenous American, African or syncretic Caribbean craft involved. Also, Tituba was not the only person of Color who stood on trial, so please don’t throw the white victim card.

Actually that's incorrect. There were many people accused that weren't actually hanged and were later released.

Thank you for mentioning Mary’s Condé’s book. One of the best takes on the the Tituba precisely because of giving her a personality. The only flaw is the change of her ethnicity but back then Tituba the image of Tituba as a woman of (predominantly) African origin was promoted

Even as a child I always wondered how people accused of witchcraft.... knowledge of herbs and how to use them, kill people and cattle from a distance, poison wells were actually this powerful..... how did people who didn't have these powers manage to capture and contain those they accused?

Throwing the white victim card? The entire affair was European Christian hysteria. The wicked little frustrated girls blamed Tituba as the source of their “possession”. The way Europeans always suspected all people of Color to be secretly still “pagan” & therefore east prey for the devil. Also the other two enslaved Black women were accused & imprisoned like Tituba & like her gave names. So it all backfired on the enslavers & the fact none of the enslaved women were sentenced to death is a modest victory!
