I focused on that aspect because it's my knowledge/experience base, and because it's fairly unexplored territory. Clearly you've become quite competent with tether systems like this, and I find them super exciting, especially when a more significant leap forward is made like your incredible speed! A lot of people have been mentioning the idea of making a hybrid system, but I think that combining two already finnicky systems in a way that the whole is an improvement would be quite difficult. Would definitely love to chat ideas sometime if you are interested.

This is awesome! One of the coolest uses of paracord we have seen to date! If the cord keeps snapping on you, one potentially simple upgrade would be to use 750 or 850 paracord instead of 550. Or if you really want to go crazy, use Dyna X which has a weight rating of 1250 lb. The diameter increase is pretty small. To anyone else reading this, paracord is not strong enough to be used as climbing rope. Use at your own risk!

Haha thanks for the comment! It was my third choice after kevlar and dyneema -- the dyneema melted, and the kevlar was too stiff to deal with shock loads effectively. Paracord might not have been the correct choice but it did get the job done!

Not really, when you really think about it, its probably for the best. The company responsible would be drowning in law suits from people who injured themselves and/or others using this (dislocated shoulders, impaled by the hook, falling from heights, and so many other stuff that can go wrong), costumers wouldn't use it responsibly, users would likely cause thousands of dollars in property damage and honestly I can see it becoming illegal quickly after being publicly released. Not only the tech itself is dangerous and unreliable af, I doubt the majority of costumers would use it for good purposes. Most likely people would use it for trespassing into private property with all sorts of nefarious motives. Now if it was possible to do a grappling gun àla Batman/Ada Wong IRL, I imagine it would be severely regulated and would only be available for first responders for emergencies, and even then only be used in very specific cases and limited to highly trained individuals

If you don't mind the suggestion, leave a meter or two at the grapple end to act as a shock absorber (stretchy, bouncy nylon) and replace the bulk of your line with Dyneema. You'll get greater length and strength for the same volume (or maybe allowing streamlining or miniaturization). Since it's a smooth fiber, you'll also likely see better velocity/trajectory, and less snagging on anything....maybe less twisting too.

3 ideas : first, make another one for your other arm. That way you can have 2 points of contact. 2. Make the end of the hook have radio controlled extend/retract controls. That way you can quickly detach the hook from the rope. 3. Add a light or a wide laser that will dissapate at the maximum range of the rope. Maybe a rangefinder on the laser? With these adaptations, you could literally swing from tree to tree!

I would have to agree that this is one of the better ones I've seen & I've seen countless Grapple guns. This is more practical & closer to Batman Style. However,even with all of the examples I've seen,there seems to still be one aspect of Batman's Grappling Hook that has yet to be tackled. That is the fact that it doesn't simply latch on to or wrap around objects,it also releases then retracts back into the gun.

JUST CLICKING THIS BUTTON, I'd be of the belief that Grappling guns would have to be a part of an exo-rig, probably on the upper torso of the body that mounts across the shoulder blades, and pulls only into the exo-rig without tension on your body (because you'd snatch your limb from your body if the torque is off lol). These are friggin cool, but I'd get concerned with these if your're not "built" for the stress it would put on your muscles, tendons and joints. It would be excruciatingly painful to disjoint a limb, then be snatched by it across a long distance lol. Last but not least, if this were incorporated into a lightweight rig that wraps around the waist or [undercarriage], you could make some amazing things with it. NOW, I'll watch the video lol. Enjoying this content man; this is surprisingly pretty awesome to watch.

Looks awesome dude, it might be an idea to modify it so that the rope and hook come in a separate cartridge, so that if you have to cut the line or if it's stuck somewhere that you can just remove the spent cartridge and replace it. Maybe incorporate the CO2 canister in the cartidge aswell.

Dislocated arm, anyone? Imagine being suspended in mid-air with your full weight hanging on a shoulder-joint that's popped out, due to a fall, or the sudden shock of being hoisted up at speed! It would be excruciating, for sure - and this is the hazard that would worry me most about using a device like this. However, I think it could be avoided, with a different design. The solution would be to use a harness rig, to which the grappling chord is attached, at the shoulders. You would still aim and fire the grapping gun by hand - but you're actually hoisted up by a harness, not by your arm. This would have another big advantage too: it would give you two free hands to work with, once you're up there where you want to be. A major problem with the arm-hoist design is that once you're at height, your hoisting arm is basically out of action - even if you haven't dislocated it! Also, with a harness rig you could reduce the weight of the device you need have strapped to your arm. All you need that component to do is to to house, aim and fire the grapping hook, so it could be quite light and compact. The heavier, bulkier winch motor and power-supply would be attached to the harness. And what's to say you couldn't have a set up with two grapping hooks - aimed and fired by your two arms? This would give you greater safety and stability - and you'd still have two free arms to work with, once you're up at height.
