It's the Grand Daddy of all SUV's and it's been on the market longer than any other vehicle. Grant Winter takes us for a Real World Test Drive of the 2011 Chevrolet Suburban:

I bought a 2011 LTZ 4x4 with 33K miles. This is my 2nd Suburban. My first was a 1999 LT 4X4. Thanks to American engineering, my wife and family are alive today as the survived a rollover that in any other car would have fatal. Thanks to the Suburban my family is alive and well today 10 years later. We had an Excursion after the crash. So happy to have our new Suburban. We have 6 kids and love to travel. This is the perfect vehicle for a large family. No wonder the Suburban name has been around since 1935. Not thrilled with the new 2015 body, but it's growing on me. I will let someone else drive the value off the lot and in a few years, trade up.

Julian Vail it happened almost the same to me 2 years ago, but it was on a Trailblazer, Suburban’s little brother. Hired black ice and end up hitting the side of a MOUNTAIN and rolled over. I walked out of it with just a scratch in my hand. Lots of people talk bad about American cars, but I believe they are great, specially the big SUV’s

All I saw was "Real world test drive of a Chevrolet Suburban" and the preview image with the suburban pulled over and the hood up... priceless.

It has better gas mileage than some minivans 19 vs 21

you'd probably not buy a suburban for carting the kids to school. That's why they also sell the Impala and Equinox. Plus with what they call active fuel managment, the V8 actually turns into a V4 when you don't need the V8. But I agree, 320hp in a V8 is not a lot. And trust me, the 5.3 V8 hardly reaches 110mph. Unlike the Suburban, Yukon XL denali is worth the price.

Any problems over the years with it and is it a comfortable and smooth ride????

@reevsaj A 5.3lt V8 really isn't that big. The 6.0 in the 2500 uses more gas. It use to have the Vortech 8.1. Yes it would but not much Horsepower. Here in the States people drive 70-85 on the highways. Torque is one thing but when your up to speed you really need a V8.

Well, as my brother used to say, "Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades." (Ie: It fit.)

I know that the sound of this V8 is great but come on there's nothing worse than seeing One man in a suburban when you're asked to "save earth" everyday... (controversial). Make more kids, then buy it!

Boo, Hoo..Like the saying goes..If you need a Suburban you get one..if you don't need one then you make up excuses why people shouldn't buy them..If you drive a BMW or an Escalade then you don't care about the poor repair history of the cars and you are willing to "pay" for the luxury of their ownership.Roll the dice...Good Luck..

Epitome of waste and lazy engineering. A smaller, V6 turbodiesel would probably be better all around than that monstrosity. No one needs an engine like that to cart the kids to school.
