Wonderful video. My great grandmother was baptized by preacher Sheffey. My grandmother, who was born in 1892 often shared the story with was passed down to her that preacher Sheffey prayed for a drink of water while passing across Black Oak Mountain near Rock WV. The story goes that a spring appeared providing him the water to quench his thirst. I have no reason to not believe that, after listening to my grandmother’s stories and reading The Saint of the Wilderness. God Bless

You are in the community of Trigg. I grew up in the community and attended church there as a child, also was married in that church. So many of my family are buried in that cemetery. We live in Staffordsville in the house that Sheffey’s brother in law lived in. It has been said that when he visited he would draw the Christian/fish symbol on the wains coating in the house. So glad you all have ventured up in our neck of the woods. Read The Saint of The Wilderness by Jess Carr if you get a chance.

Thanks so much for this video! I was fortunate to be a part of the movie "Sheffey" back in the 70s. I was in the orchestra for the soundtrack and played a solo bell part as Sheffey wondered through the deep snow. I remember telling my uncle about the movie and he recalled a story his grandfather had told him. His grandfather had a still and made moonshine. Sheffey prayed over that still that a tree would fall on it and destroy it. A tree did fall on it and the incident was included in the movie. It confirmed with my Uncle that his grandfather was telling him the truth. It's so cool to have connections like this to history!

words came to me immediately... "little chapel on a hill".. not even sure where they come from but a memory somewhere in my mind. Gorgeous chapel.. such a miracle that is still stands! Nice video... I sure hope someone takes care of that little cemetery as it looks like it needs some maintenance. I went to see my Grandmother's grave some years ago and it was totally run down.. had a hard time finding her and my grandfather's markers it was so over grown. The really sad part is that she loved the cemetery because it had a beautiful large praying hands statue which is now SO sadly gone.. someone had put a small praying hands in its place. She loved Oral Roberts as she had seen him in person many many years ago somewhere in the very early 60's at a tent revival that came to the town. Something about his preaching called to her and she saw him doing the "laying of hands" on someone. I believe her story and I believe this laying of hands helping someone. When my mother was very ill and on the way to passing.. I put my hand on her forehead and held it there and suddenly her face went calm.. I cried of course but I believe she felt comforted.. I struggle with faith as I have for some years now as life does that to a person who has been through traumas etc... but somewhere inside... I can never say it is gone. I had what I use to call ultimate faith as a very small child before I even went to church.. something in me felt it. I am in NO way a perfect Christian and perhaps that's what bothers me the most.. that I could never live up to such a perfect thing. Anyway, sorry to ramble on. Memories hit and there they are like it was yesterday. Thanks for what you do.

From someone who understands about trauma and in the past and hated to fail, God has helped me to understand that's why He gives us grace because in psalm 24:16 for a righteous man may fall 7 times and rise again... and psalm 37:24 though he fall,he shall not be utterly cast down for the Lord upholds him with His Hand. He knows it would be hard to be perfect in an imperfect sinful world ,but He will still be doing a work in us to the end of the age.God bless you and thank you

I believe such preachers were called "circuit preachers." It is a lovely cemetery. I love that little church. The area reminds me of Randy Travis's song. This was a most delightful adventure. So historic! Of course, history is what I love. Isn't Virginia history taught in the 4th grade? As I recall from my 2 years in the State that it was taught in 4th grade. Take care you sweet people.

@@appalachiangunman9589 You are correct. Kentucky history within itself is not a separate course at any grade level. Teacher candidates have a choice of taking Kentucky History or Kentucky Geography at WKU. Kentucky History is interwoven through the curriculum beginning in kindergarten.

I really enjoyed this. But once you mentioned the movie, I found this even more cool. I saw that movie back in the 70s, but haven't thought about it since. I really have no memories of it, just the fact that we saw it. I think it must have been at one of the Word of Life youth rallies we were going to in those days. Either that or our church visited another one to watch the movie. On a different note, several years ago I photographed the gravestones of Rev. and Mrs. Nicholas VanSant, in a small country church cemetery near here. The preacher died in 1879 and his wife in 1880, both aged 90. They were married 70 years. He was a member of that church for 73 years and the preacher there for almost 60 years. The epitaph on his stone is almost 21 lines below the name and date, and hers is a little bit shorter.

This was so beautiful and so well done. You two are such sweet spirited and amazing people. I've been watching since Shane did videos by himself. But having you along, Melody, makes the videos take on a whole different vibe. Not that I didn't love watching Shane, you just make them better somehow. I'm struggling with a fracture in my lumbar spine & other issues with my back. Am in a back brace now & having to have MRIs & stuff to make sure nothing has broken off in my spine. Hubby is still in rehab. A little better, but we give God the glory for every improvement no matter how big or small. I loved that little chapel. That looks like a sweet, calm place to just sit & spend time with God. Y'all are so precious to me! I sure hope I can get your book when it comes out! Y'all stay safe and be blessed always! Hugs from VA! 💗✝️🕯
