You should absolutely do low stress. You're an engineer. That's what you do. Make things built strong and to last, not skirt the disaster line like an architect.

The hydraulic solutions for the last level in this video were absolutely brilliant. RCE needs to get hydraulic-certified. Matt, the bridge broke at 3:59 because replacing the steel in the middle of the muscle with wood allowed the muscle to compress more. The muscle wasn’t as rigid because wood stretches more that steel. This additional stretchiness lead to the steel on the arch experiencing more tensile force, breaking it.

Considering that reaction when you changed the middle of a muscle and somewhere else broke, it is either that the materials have other variables such as flexibility or that the weight change caused the bridge to flex differently which put more stress on that main "arch".

I've watched a lot of these now and played PB2 and PB3 and..... I've finally figured out why wood ropes bug me. Sure, wood is probably strong enough to deal with tension. But the _attachment point_ should be failing, like, every frigging time. The stress would likely split the grain or shread the ends of real wood, right? I really would like the devs to make it so that if you use a wood rope there is a breaking point for where the wood connects with the joint that, when exceeded, the joint itself fails (as opposed to the pieces itself breaking). Really, wood rope being useful should be, like, a very very uncommon thing, imo. lol, okay, done being pedantic on the internet today 😂
