Mechanically it's not incomprehensible like other bridges I've seen, it uses a principle that allows you to rotate objects by 180 degrees around a pivot point using a linear motion. Then she joined them together. I still can't do it though, very impressive!

Best guess on why your bridge broke when the joint disconnected in Return to Sender: If you drop a large contiguous segment, the forces during the drop can potentially break the bridge due to the physics engine not being quite right. Solution: add extra joints to break the bridge into smaller pieces. EDIT: My explanation was wrong - the actual problem is because the dropped segment hits the left side, causing the whole thing to spin and move slightly to the right, and that movement is enough to break something, presumably when it hits something else. Adding more joints would still fix it by removing rigid segments. Thanks @ratchet1freak for pointing out the rigid segments.
@ratchet1freak Жыл бұрын
and there were some triangles in the dropped part which are rigid and can break if they fall wrong
@habilain Жыл бұрын
@@ratchet1freak I was going to say 'only if there was a bottom to land on', but then I realized it could hit the side. And indeed, you can see it does, and that is what likely gives it the rotation and forward movement needed to break the bridge when it hits something else. So probably not a physics engine glitch, although the solution of adding more joints still works. Edited my original post to have the correct answer, and thanks for pointing it out.

Making every single joint a split joint might just cause it to fall through the level, and fix the problem entirely

A couple things Matt! If you want to drop things away you need to make every joint a split joint. And for hydraulics you should always try and expand instead of contract because expanding hydraulics start smaller than expanding hydraulics.

Even if there are no official breaks, having a piece of your bridge drop away still makes it a one-use bridge as far as I'm concerned.

I feel like dropped pieces should automatically break when they reach a certain point. That way you could still phase through the land, but couldn't just drop part of the bridge. It feels too cheap of a solution.
