We can use the verb "to leave" in different ways. We can 'leave something behind' or we can 'leave a location'. And, this subtle change in meaning will give us some clues about whether we should use dejar or salir in Spanish.

I agree, those clips with native speakers really adds a lot to these videos. There is one school of thinking that "slow Spanish" does more harm than good. I don't know it this is true or not. I tend to think any exposure to the language is great but listening to "fast Spanish" is really good for us. Being told how to say something and then hearing it again in fast native Spanish drives the fast Spanish closer to the realm of 100% comprehension. I liked your comment.

I always thought of Salir as to exit because of the town of Salida in Colorado. Thanks for the clarification.

Hola Matthew, yes we can use "salir" for "exiting" a place such as a room or a building.

Bunch of examples is a perfect way to learn. Super good lesson. And I absolutely love the movie clips too. If I would have listened to the movie clips before this I wouldn't have been able to make out what they were saying but seeing the phrase first makes it easy to understand. I love it

Love your lessons... Would appreciate more actual phrases rather than complex abstract movie quotes. Like, simple stuff that comes up everyday when living with Spanish people: Leave me alone, leave it over there, where should I leave it, could you leave the keys out on the counter for me?, Let's leave on time, when did you leave?, What time should we leave?, Leave it to the professionals, where should I leave my bag? (Like when going into a supermarket and you have to leave your backpack) These are the kinds of short phrases that I need, not long complex random phrases about quitting my job... If I could have those kinds of higher level conversations, I wouldn't be a beginner... I've written down many of your examples in my studying and realized that in day to day life, they're never gonna be used. Maybe stop the cutsy movie clips and focus on real life? Just a suggestion... You're a great teacher.

Thanks for your feedback! Please note that I choose a lot of the quotes because they are practical and actually match quite well with your suggestions. For example "leave me alone", there was a great quote "¿Me puedes dejar en paz?" (please leave me in peace). Also "leave it over there", there was a great quote "¿Puede dejar esto en la cocina?" (can you leave this in the kitchen?), you can just replace "en la cocina" with over there "allí" or on the table "en la mesa" or any other phrase you can think of.

I gave this one a "like". It is actually a fairly unique topic to contrast these two particular verbs. In a more general sense videos about two different words in Spanish that only translate into a single word in English seems to be an ever popular topic for Spanish Language videos. I have a play list of these videos and in addition to watching it several times and liking the video I have added it to my "por vs para ext" play list. I hope that this can be my small part un helping this great channel to advance in the KZbin algorithms. If I may I would like to continue our discussion about percent of comprehension. Sometimes I like to listen to Spanish language sitcoms. I am still not able to pick out very much. It is so hard to tell where one word ends and another begins. But sometimes I can pick out a word or two. I agree that by listening to Spanish language programing alone I would never become fluent. Still I do get to experience the sound and rhythm of the language. There was this one scene in a sitcom where this guy was passed out and some kids drew a mustache on his face. I heard the word "vigoda" but when O looked it up in Google translate this was not a word. Then I translated mustache into Spanish and found the word "bigote". So I just learned a new word. I watch the Spanish language news as well. I would hate to think that these activities are a complete waist of time. I agree that these activities alone will not make one fluent but in combination with other activities it doesn't hurt and I like to think I am learning something. Just my two cents worth. hey getting back to the topic great video, thank you for all the thoughtf producing material you make.

In the real world and in some cases dejar and salir are overlapped, you can dejar Guadalajara or salir de Guadalajara, or dejar este trabajo or salir de este trabajo. In other situations they have different meanings, dejar the hotel isn't salir de the hotel. In any case they're not an easy thing to learn.

Could you make a video on your top TV shows for actually learning Spanish? A lot of popular Spanish shows have dialects that are too thick or they rush through the dialogue.

Love your channel and am a new subscriber. Can someone please help me understand this sentence. Te interesa ir a los museos o Te interesan las playas? This is the correct answer from Duolingo but I cannot find why one is interesa and the other interesan. They’re both speaking about multiple things, museums or beaches so why is one Te interesa and the other Te interesan. I cannot find the answer anywhere and I would like to really understand the logic behind this and not just make guesses.
