As an artist, I have two hand references attached to me, but the model itself is a work of art. It is amazing.

I man, I'm an artist myself, and there are quite a lot of angles that are very challending to look at your hands from... But then again I'd opt for taking a photo or using a 3d model rather than buying an expensive paperweight. It would look cool as a collectible though.
@babynugget706 Жыл бұрын
@@DarthBiomech tbh I'd opt for one of these reference hands mainly because 90% of 3d models online have terrible anatomy and inaccuracies with bones/skin placement (with exceptions of scans). Photos are doable but it's also extremely annoying taking a long time finding exact angle, taking a photo of it, uploading it so that I can use it on a monitor.

I also have two hand references attached to me. Unfortunately for me, my hand references are stupid chunky baby hands with stubby fingers. TT_TT You can tell from my art too, my artstyle has chubby hands by default. At bare minimum having a more elegant reference is a reason to buy

Finally, someone actually came up with the bright idea to do a hand model that articulates *realistically!* As a professional artist, I have been voicing those same complaints about wooden hand models for decades-- they're adequate as decorations, but as references for artists and learning aids for art students, their limitations are extremely frustrating. Every wooden hand model I have ever seen has an immovable base joint for the thumb, and has the palm cupped as if making a fist; that one design flaw alone makes it _impossible_ to pose one of those hands with a standard flat palm, which is a massive strike against their usefulness. I can't believe it took so long for someone with the engineering know-how to pick up on the deficiencies of those models, and develop something that would actually have a full range of poses. I want one of these. I've wanted one of these for 20 years. I _will_ absolutely buy one of these in a heartbeat, without hesitation, as soon I have the opportunity.

If only other human beings had hands.
@chevand8 Жыл бұрын
@@thomasbecker9676 I believe I get your point. But the thing is, while art students may be likely to be able to benefit from life drawing since they congregate around their classes, depending on what type of professional studio setting you work in, you might not always have access to other people to pose for you, or even a mirror to use yourself as a reference either. Photographs can be helpful, but they lack the physicality of the real thing, and you can't reorient the poses in them if you want to change something. In the case that these other options are unavailable or suboptimal, something like this becomes a lot more useful. My point is just that it's an additional tool in artists' arsenals, and so far, one that has desperately needed improving. This hand model is a serious improvement.

There's a uni in Korea that has an anatomically accurate hand, down to liquid and skin and tendons, and i feel that covering it inside a clear latex would've made this even better for drawing, because it behaves very human like once a soft substrate (is present).

Ahah, and I bet they chose to make the RIGHT hand specifically because most people are right-handed, and using that one to draw, so they can use their LEFT hand as a reference! The thumb articulation alone is SUPER impressive, how it slides back and forth across the palm! PS - I don't know if the presenting employee from Kotobukiya will ever see this, but DUDE, his English pronunciation is amazing!! Pronunciation is the toughest part of learning English as a Japanese native speaker, with a really high skill ceiling (the same way kanji memorization is the hardest part of learning Japanese as a native English speaker, also has a super high skill ceiling) and this guy?? Has reached a REALLY impressive level of clarity! It takes a LOT of work get that good, so that deserves applause!

As I was sitting there watching this, I realized I had put my phone in my left hand so I could sit there and flex the fingers and thumb of my right hand and see if the range of motion really match and whether I could see and feel that! My first thought when I saw this was, "wow, that would be great for prosthetics". Put some mechanics and software in it and I'm sure we could make a pretty realistic hand/arm. They should really pitch this design to one of those companies.
@DarthBiomech Жыл бұрын
Not really. the necessity to fit all the electronic inside would change it's constructuion so much that it would probably be easier to redesin from scratch. Then again the concepts of full degree fredom robotic hands alredy exist, the two main problems is "how to make everything compact enough that it'd fit in the forearm?" and "how to control it to actually get the benefits of extended range of motion?"
