Plastic bricks are the worst. I use this technique a lot. I figured you’d use individual bricks since you are so detailed. I don’t have a mold this scale but should make one. Thanks for the vid. Always instrumental in learning new techniques

Thank you, for stopping by and spending time watching the video my friend. 😀 I have actually seen many brilliant plastic brick models that look exactly like the real thing. I guess like everything else it is all about mastering a particular medium and learning to get the best out of it. Here is a book that you can try - by one of my all time favorite model railroaders, Iain Rice: www.titfield.co.uk/Wild-Swan/Model-Techniques.htm But yes, after discovering how good clay and water go together, I will keep experimenting with techniques to get the most out of it - including molds and ways to make actual little bricks. Especially in my scenarios, if not anything, it will be hugely economical. Cheers!

Great idea! I have been wanting to use air dry clay for bricks for a while but with my many projects haven’t started yet. I am going to use the water color technique of yours to paint and weather. Thanks for the great ideas. Keep them coming Kaustav!

Interesting use of watercolours on the clay. It looks very effective. I wonder how long the colour will last because watercolours tend to fade with age. Did you apply a layer of watercolour fixer to fix the colour in place and prevent fading?
@TrainsandDioramas
@TrainsandDioramas 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Lightfast water colours that I used would prevent fading considerably, so no I didn’t use any fixer. However, it definitely doesn’t hurt putting a coat of matte varnish or fixer as long as you can retain the natural texture.

Thank you! KZbin algorithm is still confused about my content and audience and it's been 3 years already that I am producing content actively. I guess this is as good as it gets. No hard feelings though, as long as it reaches those who appreciate it, I am happy. 😎
@LaserGadgets
@LaserGadgets 3 жыл бұрын
@@TrainsandDioramas Wait, why would it be confusing for the algorythm?
@TrainsandDioramas
@TrainsandDioramas 3 жыл бұрын
If I knew that, then I would’ve solved the problem! I don’t know why KZbin is not able to figure out the distribution of my content because it is pretty straight forward. I have one video out of 60 plus that has over 1.5 million views which looks good, but if you drill down you’ll see that it’s retention is 3%! The first baffling thing is KZbin keeps promoting that despite low retention and that continues to generate the highest viewers, although not my target audience. The next best is a short at 62K, then a 48k which is one of my first videos nearly 4 years ago. Clearly there is a problem. I gave it my best shot for over 2 years, and now I just do it for enjoyment and showcase my work - sort of a casual vlog but keeping the best production value that I can. I have managed to inspire some people and those who found my work appreciate it, and that is the biggest reward of all. Cheers and thanks for taking time to respond. 🙏🏻🙏🏻😎

As usual, amazing work. I noticed that when you join the two layers of bricks, the first set had started to dry out. Did you wet the side facing the other layer? You forgot to mention one key ingredient in all your work at the end. Patience. You have it in abundance whereas most of us are sadly lacking. Take care and stay safe.
@TrainsandDioramas
@TrainsandDioramas 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Maurice! Yes, I did wet the side facing the other layer to activate the already dried side. I agree, patience is definitely a key ingredient, but I find that the desire is the main driver. I used to lose patience and take shortcuts all the time and then didn't like end result. It always used to come doen to a 'could've been better' scenario. Now I am learning to balance compromise and quality such that after finishing a piece I say - 'that is all that I could've done at my skill level anyway' - that way, there's no regret. :) Thank you again for stopping by and spending time with me, my friend. Take care. :)

Hi Kaustav, amazing work and great detailing.. I never imagined water colours can make such a beautiful distressed look.. I am going to use this technique..Where do you get the glass dome with base?
@TrainsandDioramas
@TrainsandDioramas 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much 😀 It was a surprise find, mostly the credit goes to my wife. One thing to keep in mind however is that water color fades with time, especially if exposed to daylight. So you need to select a paint that has a high light fast rating. The dome is from Ikea, but I am sure similar ones are available in many craft stores. Thanks for stopping by. Cheers! Kaustav
