A couple of months ago I decide to do some concrete treack for the first time and didn’t know how to weather it properly, so I created my own technique with sprycans and made a video about it. And today I found out you allready did exactly the same 4 years ago! 😳👊👌

I am so glad that you have found your techniques on your own. There’s no greater pleasure than finding your own way even if someone has done it before you. Doesn’t mean that you have to reinvent the wheel in every stage, but solving problems on your own has a different level of excitement and fun. Have fun! K

This is not to be believed. Exquisite. Using the natural wood, twigs and asparagus fern, how long will these last?
@TrainsandDioramas3 күн бұрын
Thank you! This video is about 5 years old I think and these trees are still there, so unless they are rough handled, they should last quite a while. The main consideration is cleaning because that’s when things can go wrong. If you manage to keep them protected from dust, they should last a really long time.

Thank you! I think content creation has slid down my priority list for the time being as I am fully engrossed in building a startup that makes models of Indian Railways. You can find more at precisionmodelworks.co.in - perhaps I’ll have the bandwidth again to make content this business can run without me. Cheers! K

Some observations from a country where these trees grow, which I hope might help make convincing autumn results. This isn't meant to detract from your skills - in fact your banyans are the most realistic renditions I have seen anywhere! First, most autumn colours change in stages. The inner and outer leaves will often turn at different times so the colours shift from the bases of the branches out towards the tips. I've never seen never them randomly mixed together like the models here. On a micro scale, even the individual leaves will shift in colour from the main "veins" to the outer edges. The final result is a gradual colour gradient from the inner tree to the outer. Even aspens which turn all one shade of yellow will look darker on the inside due to shadow. Second, the leaves often fall off at different times on a single tree. Many maples will end up in late fall with bare branches and only a couple of bright yellow leaves left at the tips - presumably because the older leaves drop first. Many of those leaves will go through a vibrant shift in colour as they get ready to fall off, hence that gradient. Last, while there are many varieties out there, birch trees are typically tall and slender with very thin sparse branches all the way up. I've tried modeling them with WS armatures but the structure is far too "thick" to work in any scale. Southern Alberta Railroad makes very convincing birches in very small scale, and they are almost glorified pipe cleaners. Please take this as the constructive commentary it is meant to be. Keep up the great work my man, these videos have been very educational!

Thanks for your insights, and I truly appreciate your helpful observations, as I'm always looking to refine my techniques! Modeling something you cannot relate to or where you don’t belong is always tricky because what you can see in front of your eyes for 10 minutes will always give you more accurate information than 10 hours of surfing the internet! One of the reasons I moved to modeling Indian scenes because I know things subconsciously, don’t have to even think. I will keep these comments handy whenever I move to making fall scenes. Thank you again. Cheers! K

Thank you! I am glad you find this old video helpful. I was never confident to do this when I did it for the first time and I did ruin a couple of models. But then once I knew what to do, things got easier. Some sacrifices have to me made, so perhaps you can start with the model that is the cheapest or perhaps the one that you done care much for.

I have spent hours and hours trying to make a wire tree. By watching this video. I realise everything I did was wrong. To make realistic trees is a very had and tedious achievement. Your tree was a true work of great art.
@TrainsandDioramas3 ай бұрын
Thank you! I found that when it comes to making realistic models, it always takes extra effort. However, for trees, there’s an amazing alternative - sea foam or what Scenic Express sells as ‘super trees’ - using that with some commonly available dried twigs can give you pretty convincing trees.
@McCraeMoto13 ай бұрын
I have been thinking the same. But the trunks on all of the twig trees look unconvincing. I plan to find som suitable twigs. And then thicken the trunk part with wire and filler. Like you did with your tree. Thanks for the reply.

Sir from where we can buy these tracks
@robertpenduck84554 ай бұрын
I always set the z adjustment by putting the vat in first then tighten down the vat side screws first then losses off the plate screws then lower the plate to home then hold the build plate and tighten the four screws uniformly till tighten equally then the plate calibration is done then lock in the z hight following the manuals guidelines much quicker.

Beautiful layout and great switching video! Your speeds look quite realistic indeed. So, you got sound on that engine without DCC? How does this work? I recently started a tiny N scale switching layout myself, let's see how this goes 😁
@TrainsandDioramas5 ай бұрын
Thank you! The sound was basically from a TrainTech SFX20 sound bug which has a motion sensor in it and a pre-recorded sequence of movement at a specific speed. It’s meant for DC folks who want sound but don’t want to move to DCC and aim for the good old ‘Simple life.’ Typical British invention, you’ll like it. It’s for OO scale so too big for N, so I’d good mine in the heavy load depressed flat car.
