The legend has returned :) This thingy looks just like a Matsushita cassette deck, with the cassette mechanism swapped for an 8-track one. And that might actually be what it is. Although I see no Matsushita caps? The nasty purple/blue things. Greets, Wes.

Howdy Wes! Hope all is good on your end! I owned one of these back in the day, always liked it, so when the opportunity came up, I bought it....been doing that lately. ~Jack, VEG

My main man Jack, so good to see you back in action. Was beginning to think you disappeared from the face of the earth. That or Mrs. VEG would not let you come out and play anymore. LOL Interesting video. Those 8 track players were notoriously picky when they were new and given that both the mechanism as well as the media is getting a bit old, well they tend not to perform as well as they once did. Make sure the foam strips are in place on the tapes themselves, these are usually MIA on old carts. The solenoid should move a ratchet type device which makes the head go up and down. That in itself is a pretty funky setup. Oh and those gooey belts, I haven't seen any like that on an 8 track but several on cassette machines. :)

Life changed, priorities changed! Not sure how often I'll drop a video. Yes, need to learn how to change pads successfully, the service manual did ID that as an issue with track changing. Thanks. ~Jack, VEG

Jack you didn't fall of the end of the earth. And the golly woggles didn't get you. Those gooey belts do it every time. Gum up the works especially on 8 track players. Good to see you on Jack. Hope all is well with you and the Mrs.

I've found LA Awesome, a cheap degreaser found at most dollar stores, to be a really great at cleaning up gooey belts. Good job and nice video!

The program change solenoid is drawing a lot of current as shown by the lights dimming when you hit the button Jack. If its not moving far enough to reposition the head to the next track its probably a mechanical issue with old grease. Looking forward to seeing more of this unit!! Take care and all the best, George

Thanks for the tip, I'll pay attention to old grease and check voltages around the solenoid. ~Jack, VEG

I concur, a bit sticky. A bit doxit in that solenoid may just do it.
