Taco loyaltist will always hate on the latest version, you cannot escape the price increase, true, there has been a lot improvements but at the end of the day has Toyota deviated from the core reason why buyers gravitated to the Tacoma?

Besides the TRD Pro and Trail hunter, the other trims are pretty equivalent in price and equipment to other competitors. The TRD Off Road is essentially the same price as the Frontier Pro4X. People forget that the Pro4X can be optioned up to 50k

With the amount of engine and transmission problems being reported in newer refreshed toyotas, it is concerning. Have heard about the manuals failing firsthand in the 2024 Tacoma. Also, having driven a manual 2024 tacoma, it is 'ok'. It drives like a truck. Big and heavy, lot of weight to throw around. Infotainment is huge and in your face, feels small inside despite being a large vehicle. I'm not in the market for a manual truck anyways even if it was cheaper, maybe if it was an option in the Ranger or Frontier (but sadly it's not). I do prefer smaller lightweight cars anyways, and I'm enjoying my 2020 jetta gli with long gears.

The Tundra recall was doozy, but Id also keep in mind that Toyota is a huge manufacturer and the relative amount of problems owners do experience, still keep them toward the top of reliability charts (they consistently place at the top with Consumer Reports on this, even now). I hope the Taco continues this and they get the bugs worked out🤕

The Tacoma is no longer competitive in off-road ability (Raptor/ZR-2), power(Ranger 2.7), or value (Frontier $12k less!). If this gen eventuallly delivers on traditional Toyota durability all will be forgiven.
@Realistick
@Realistick Ай бұрын
Id agree that all of those trucks are a better value, but I think that you have to take a few other things into account. Just because some other brands can get front lockers, doesn’t mean the taco isn’t competitive. I’d even say that having sway bar disconnect compensates for that, especially since you don’t need the TRD pro to get it! The Frontier is much cheaper, but when they’re both stripped down, the difference is a few grand and you won’t even have power mirrors with the Frontier😂. The taco just gets outrageous when you start getting some real options. As for power, it’s enough, but yeah, the Ranger and Colorado give you more in most cases. It’s a pretty great truck to live with, if it turns out to be reliable, I think people will love it like the third gen… if they can afford it.

Don't count on it. Anything like these Tacomas being built out of Mexico will never match the reliability the brand was built on. It's going to be overpriced junk, and Toyota will charge crazy prices to cover the costs of the recalls and shoddy build quality.
@davidc750
@davidc750 Ай бұрын
One thing is most important when it comes to truck buyers before anything else: Is it dead RELIABLE? Toyota has lead industry with their truck in this one aspect for decades, and sales prove that it is the most important factor when it comes to prospective buyers. Because let's face it, Anyone who has owned any previous generations of Tacoma knows that they were never that great in terms of quality: It is loud, amenities are minimal, wind noise is terrible, paint will crack if someone farts on it, gas mileage is just as bad as full size V8, engine is underpowered and automatic tranny is more of slush box, uneven panel gaps everywhere and rusts forming on 15 different water trap spots isn't exactly industry leading standards. But people still bought it and loved it because it was... reliable! Now with both Toyota trucks getting this many complains and recalls due to reliability issues this early, to me Toyota trucks have lost their charms and seem to be just as flimsy as other trucks on the market, but more expensive. Now I really cannot recommend anyone to buy new trucks from Toyota, though I am a Toyota fanboy who owns Camry, Tacoma and the new GR corolla, which has been a fantastic vehicles for many years(crossing my fingers on GRC to not suck on reliability, which I have not had any issues...yet.). They have tainted their brand name in truck segment and this will be hard for them to fix, but they need to do it sooner than later. Complex engines just have no place in pick-up trucks.
@Realistick
@Realistick Ай бұрын
Nice to hear from another GR Corolla owner, and the Tundra’s recall was obviously concerning though Id firmly disagree that the new Tacoma has had enough complaints to warrant that kind of claim. A lot of trucks that sell less, have had the same or more problems reported with the nhtsa. It’s FAR too early to come to a conclusion, the engine has been good so far in each car that it’s been used in, let’s see if automatic problems persist and then we’ll have that talk!
@davidc750
@davidc750 Ай бұрын
@@Realistick I do agree with the sentient that it is quite early to tell, especially for Tacoma. But I also firmly believe #1 reason for Toyota's reliability is due to simple power train architecture that is over built minimizing error margin by not giving enough output. New power trains, including one in grc, do not share the same ethos. Time will tell, and with completely new engine they will have to prove themselves again. They have done so in the past with hybrid so there is hope, although even for hybrid it was always na counterpart that always proved to be more reliable.

Very simply, when you campare the 2024 Tacoma to other brands with similar features, like Ford Raptor and COlorado Zr2, you get more value with other brands. That is it. Of course 2024 Taco is better than 2023, but things like disc brakes and 8 speed transmission have been offered by the competition for years.
@Realistick
@Realistick Ай бұрын
Yes, but the interior is more comfortable and well laid out up front than the others (your mileage could vary), it offers more features, you can get a manual, you get a standard composite bed and the Toyota reputation and resale too. You’re right that it is a worse value, but I think a lot of people pretend that it doesn’t have selling points just because of the price.

Just another display of the rampant contempt corporations have for customers. Build it with ever-cheaper labor, stick loads of unnecessary, computerized features on it, put everything customers are accustomed to behind extra fees, and charge obscene prices to cover the guaranteed quality problems derived from the aforementioned cheap labor and expensive features that will have to be fixed a couple months off the lot. Seen this business model play out enough to recognize it in the car industry. Your sticker price isn't worth the features you're getting, it's their slush fund to correct their exam answers after the exam is turned in. @@Realistick The Tundra engine was suppose "proven " top, said the engineers, and those are used in other vehicles too. The disaster started slow, but now it just keeps spreading, and Toyota is rolling out the recall in stages for damage control .The hybrid is the same, but they so far have excluded it because it's "safe" to pull off the road when it locks up. Eventually this will be the biggest engine recall disaster in history, and it started with only a trickle. The transmissions are next, and more WILL fail, as this is just the start. Tundra has had a few years for the issues to manifest. Sadly, as these trucks age, depreciate, word spreads, and they lose engines out of warranty, the cost of engine replacement will make them disposable totals, and j-yards WILL overflow with stinky TuRDs. Mexican soft Taco is already showing similar quality issues, and even fanboys are taking notice. They are so new that nothing can be said to be resolved yet. They're starting to do complete transmission replacement, yet like the engine, they're really not sure of the issue, so they just claim "debris" as usual. The fact that they de-tune soft Taco for the manual tells just how weak it is, yet Toyota scapegoats the driver for "operator error." But fanboys will continue to fan, and HELP Mother Toyota in her cover-up, and willingly pay to do so. Pure enablement. What folks won't do to have an external source of identity in a brand name.

For a company that never does anything right, they sure are doing well on the sales charts. Weird correlation there. Some might buy them because of the logo and not do any research (bad idea) but that’s not everyone. Not every buyer is a sheep who doesn’t know anything like you seem to think. And Toyota having engine and transmission issues isn’t exactly new is it? The 2AZ engine is famous for oil burning, the 2AR engine is joining that boat because of poor maintenance, the 1MZ had that oil sludge fiasco etc. As for transmissions, the UA80 series transmissions (you should know a lot about these Naveen), had issues too. I could go on. But bottom line is, the issues going on now with Toyotas are occurring early on in the generation’s life. Give it a few more years and we’ll see how many of these issues still persist.
