Here in Minnesota, winter tires are essential. I have Blizzak WS90’s on my GR Corolla and the traction, handling, braking, and capability in snow and ice are tremendous. PS4’s are almost terrifying in those conditions. I got caught in bad weather which arrived earlier than predicted, a day before my winter tires arrived, and it was so sketchy and stressful driving home in traffic.

So there's a dramatic difference in noise, vibration and harshness between this and the compacts. I assume you mean it's worse in those regards, but I'm not quite sure since you said it was quieter than the RAV4 and Pilot. 🤣

I know this is an older video, but I loved it! The Rabbit is what got me into VWs. Mine was an '07 manual 2 door. The 2.5 really wakes up with the IE intake manifold kit and tune. Mine also had a 3" catless exhaust from the factory manifold back. That 5 cylinder really sounded great at WOT with those mods and made stock GTI power to the wheels. My only issues were a vacuum pump leak and the purge valve needing replaced. I did smoke my stock clutch within a week of adding the intake manifold and tune. I miss that car. Very reliable and a blast to drive with the added power and suspension work.

If you live in a cold climate with dirt roads, the Forester has no competition at the price point. End of discussion. Idk why this screen is so confounding for people. It works great and the critical functions have physical controls. Just turn your music on and hit the gas. Enjoy the automatic climate control instead of micro managing the vents like some sort of HVAC Mozart.

On my 7th GLI (and 11th VW since 1990, slight sabbatical in the early 2000's) and it always puts a smile on my face. Never had one issue with any of them. The GLI hits differently. It's sublime. The DSG is heaven. Is it perfect ? No. Typical VW quirks. It's stealth speed without the $$$$$. Only issue the dealer service network here in SoCal. They are horrible.

Subaru is ruining the Outback, putting so much black plastic all over the car. My wife's 2013 Outback is a much better looking car than the current one. Unfortunately Subaru is doing this to their other cars too.

I 100% agree that the Outback feels more narrow and more tight. The Outback is flat out less comfortable with worse visibility. I didn't want to like the Forester, but it was clearly the favorite among our family. I just hate CVT's... I dunno if I can live with one long term.

I own a 2024 GR premium. Got it specifically to go snowboarding in the winter, but I live in Socal so it's warm until I drive to the mountains. Got the Michelin Pilot All Seasons on mine during the winter and they are great in the snow. They handle the conditions you were in with ease. The best setting is to go to track mode and turn traction control all the way off, that is, hold down traction off until the expert light goes off, but the traction warning lights stay on. You will get the best snow traction, and predictable sliding this way. I found traction control on will cut power in unpredictable ways here and there. It's a beast in the snow! And you are a bit nuts to drive in those conditions with summers on. They have zero grip under freezing temps.

All Fits excel for handling, road naps, and hauling. Visibility is awesome, but that’s a two way street, pre-window tinting there’s no privacy. We opted for a second gen Scion XB for greater privacy and a larger “freeway footprint”, it looks more norm size than the Fit. After test drives in the wallowing xB vs the zippy stickshift Fit, I want a Fit too - for fun.

Driving in the snow on summer tires is dangerous and irresponsible - both for yourself and others. Don't be like this guy
@RealistickКүн бұрын
I said don't be like me IN THE VIDEO😂 I kept the speed limit to 25 mph to compensate and drove on empty roads, but yes, if you need to commute in snow, don't use the tires that come with the car!
@grahmdoughtyКүн бұрын
@@Realistick I like a lot of your videos so I don't want to be harsh but I do think you should take all of the comments to heart here. Your example above is like making a video all about you driving over 100 MPH on empty public roads and then having a 30-second section where you say "by the way don't do this." The disclaimer doesn't solve the fact that you made the video in the first place. And the amount of time you spent talking about the AWD system instead of tires suggests potentially a fundamental misunderstanding on your part about driving in winter weather. As I said in a different comment, there are a bunch of people who overextend themselves on these cars and then convince themselves they don't need to spend the extra $500-1000 to be safe in the winter - an argument you yourself made in the video and comments below. If you're not going to get appropriate tires, then don't drive the car unless it's an emergency
@RealistickКүн бұрын
Thank you for watching the videos, I have listened to people's concerns and I think that has helped me learn more about how to conduct a video like this. I disagree on the example you presented. One of those is VERY illegal with regularly tragic consequences (yet some KZbinrs still just blur the speedo). And the other is a legal activity on the type of tires the car is sold with. I don't mean to undermine your point, but the force of an object rises dramatically with speed. If someone is going 35 mph on all-seasons, they're carrying close to double the force of someone on summer tires doing 25 mph. I don't see them stopping any quicker and they'll have less time to react too (that topic could make for a good video test). If I did it again, I would spend more time making sure people know the precautions that I am taking to stay safe so that there's no confusion on the limitations of summer tires. While I don't personally need them (we get snow on the road once or twice a year and I usually stay in), I would also use winter tires to avoid concerns altogether, something I did not predict. Lessons learned.
@grahmdoughtyКүн бұрын
@@Realistick I'm not sure I agree. Legal vs. illegal is not always the same as safe vs. unsafe. It's not illegal to drive the speed limit in the snow in traffic on Cup 2s. But I would argue that is less safe than driving 100 MPH on empty public roads. Based on the video itself I'm not sure if you understood before filming (or even if you understand now) how dangerous UHP tires can be when temperatures drop. And if you knew that beforehand, I'm not sure why you decided to make a video 95% about the AWD system of the car

You are the second person I see complain about the prices rising and rising... Keep in mind I'm canadian and these prices are in CAD: in 2006, a WRX was 35k$, and a STi was 45k$ before taxes and fees. The WRX had 230hp and a 5 speed, the STi had 300hp and the 6 speed. literally 20 years later, the minimum wage has increased by over 2 times, if not 3. A Subway was 5$ for a 12 inches, now it's 7-8$ for a 6 inches... And the WRX, if you take the base model, is 36 000$, and now has 271hp and a 6 speed transmission. I simply do NOT understand that complaint. What else is available on the market, between 250 and 300hp, 6MT, AWD... There is NOTHING. The Corolla GR is like 55k$ for the base model. It might be faster... but thats 20k more... I'd never buy a COROLLA for 55k$, come on... The car is halfway between the old WRX and STi, even has the 6MT... and the price is basically the same as a 2006 WRX. I don't get it.

I think you missed the part about how different the US market is. However, wages have not kept up with housing costs here in the US and Ive heard it’s worse in Canada. In the US, the GR Corolla is the same price (until dealers discount the Subaru because they won’t sell without it). It even encroaches on Golf R money, you could buy some BMW and Audi products too if you’re fine with an AT and if you give up awd, the Elantra N runs laps around the WRX for less money too! I think I mentioned in the video that I was talking specifically about the US and that prices are different in Canada (unless im confusing this with a different video).
@MattCantSpeakIt2 күн бұрын
@Realistick ah, maybe in the US. But the other guy I heard conplain was Canadian, its a dude from a local subaru forum from back in the days (yes I'm old). In the US you might have more choices, but here in canada, the wrx is still pretty much alone in its class. The next best thing is the Corolla, which I'm sure is super fun... But the base corolla GR is 19k$ more than the base WRX. At this point I cannot justify the price difference, and if I had that money to put on a car, I'd get an Audi or BMW like you said...

Wilderness in my opinion was a mistake. I would have liked a compact to mid sized Pickup/Ute with the Wilderness's ground clearance and a transfer case mated to an 8 speed transmission. Give me a stripped down version of that and I bet it flies off the showroom floors. It would compete directly with the Maverick/Tacoma and other smaller Trucks/Utes. If done properly and priced right, it could dominate the segment. The Outback does about 90% of what most people want to do but this truck would cover the other 10% and add the utility of having a truck bed. It could do a little rock climbing and go anywhere the Tacoma can go. But this truck could be priced where the Tacoma used to be priced before they went crazy with the $45k+ sticker prices recently.

My 2020 has been a great car, summer and winter. Fun to drive, handles well, good on snow, comfortable, reliable and well appointed. I only wish it had a bit more ground clearance. If they would fit it with the WRX’s engine and manual transmission, it would put Audis and BMWs to shame. As it is, it is just as good as those two, for half the price.

Mazda makes garbage rear brake caliper with electronic parking brake. end up replacing both rear caliper. Each part$600 Canadian plus labor and 13%tax. no body make that caliper, only dealer can sell and you can not rebuild due to design. after replacing I dismantle my old one and looks like Mazda did poor design compare to other manufacture like Chrysler Pacifica. now after 110000km I am at my third rear caliper replacement. now in jan 2025 still no after market part available. so another $600 plus labor🥵😌😌
