The engine power and torque are outstanding I think the trans will change as the years go on but overall definitely better than the 3rd gen
@j.b.7085 ай бұрын
please keep in mind you don't get MORE power by adding a hybrid system to any given engine. you are simply generating energy ahead of time and using it perhaps when you need it later. there's energy on reserve for a boost, but the total energy in and out is about the same minus conversion loss. yeah, you get a little power from regenerative breaking, but it's not as much power as you used getting the truck moving.
@nickhoffman17435 ай бұрын
So Toyota gave us 2 options with this new drivetrain. Straight gas Iforce with 276hp OR the hybrid system which essentially integrates the hybrid tech to work with the gas engine. Part of that hybrid system includes an electric motor that produces 48 hp which means total hp on the Iforce Max hybrid setup is advertised as 324 HP....but a hybrid DOESNT add more power? Explain this
@j.b.7085 ай бұрын
@@nickhoffman1743 In this house, we obey the laws of thermodynamics! That power came from somewhere, it came from the gas engine. The gas engine worked harder when you didn't ask it to, to bank power in the battery that the electric motor could draw upon to generate "more power." But that's not really more, it's just power you already generated earlier in the timeline. You didn't magically get more power for free, in fact you lost total power in the end due to multiple conversion losses and even storage loss. And once the battery is empty, there will be NO more electrical boost available until your gas motor replenishes the battery. While the gas motor is replenishing the battery, less power will be available to propel the vehicle. Oh... and the extra mass of the hybrid components makes the hybrid vehicle heavier. Look, I totally get that having an extra 30-40 HP now and then might be nice, but you don't get it after you spent it until you replace it and you didn't get it at no cost. A turbo adds horsepower, a hybrid system does not (for any given gas engine, all other things being equal).
@LastLineOfDefense4 ай бұрын
I think you mean that you don't get FREE power, which obviously nobody disagrees with. The gas engine plus electric motor certainly produce and provide MORE power, as is shown by HP and TQ numbers. The battery system which stores that extra power does generate a good bit for free, via regenerative braking, and the rest it siphons from the gas motor, which is definitely not free.
@j.b.7084 ай бұрын
@@LastLineOfDefense Holy cow dude. The energy you recouped in breaking is less than the energy required to get up to speed in the first place. Those HP and TQ numbers are ONLY valid as long as the battery is charged. The energy to create that charge was taken FROM the engine at the expense of HP that would be used to propel the vehicle. The hybrid system allows you to temporarily bank a little horse power ahead of time. And I get that might be nice in many cases, but it's not "MORE" power. The total power is the same minus conversion losses and loss to a heavier vehicle.
