Any impressions of how the speakers/radio sounds on this model (the standard speaker setup?) I'm not looking for window shaking bass, but some entry level systems are pretty good, others are really bad. Wondering how this one rates for music?

This one is decent but the treble distorts at high volume kind of quickly, which can make it harsh, solid punch though, bass shouldn't be a problem.

Just last week, my wife and i were dead set on one of these… until we test drove it. Although the interior is SUPER nice… it definitely feels very cheap especially when u give it a drive. The AC is terrible!! Every stop the AC blows warm air. We drove 2 and it was the same. It turned us away instantly. Obviously thats not a deal breaker for everyone but im not buying a new car if the AC isnt gonna work properly. My wife and daughter agreed it never really cooled down inside on full blast. Proper ac is something i dont play with 🤣🤷🏽♂️ my 2013 chrysler 200 with 200k miles blows ice cold in 100+ deg weather. Even when parked. IF ANYTHING definitely test drive cuz we did a complete 360 deg turn around with this one.

MSRP isn't everything. I cross shopped the Sportage hybrid and Mazda CX-5 turbo premium and while I was able to negotiate a couple thousand under MSRP for the Mazda, the Kia dealerships all had "market adjustments" above MSRP on their upper trim Shortages. I really like Kia's warranty, I had to use it once on my Optima nearly five years into its life and well after most other manufacturers would've abandoned me. Kia (and Hyundai) make nice vehicles with great warranties. I just wish the dealers wouldn't torpedo the value with pure-profit markups. The same could be said of Toyota.
@Realistick11 ай бұрын
That depends on your location too, Kia used to be known for huge incentives that would also wreck the resale of the used ones!
@MikeD1101a11 ай бұрын
I think its location also. We live in Upstate NY, but we till own a house in Florida we rent and we have relatives that live there. In Florida, the dealership has a 'southeast regional adjustment' added to the Sportage hybrid models ($1000 markup), plus they typically start trade negotiations at at least $1000 below Blue book. For the same vehicle in Upsate NY, the Kia dealer here sells at MSRP and usually offers very close to KBB trade price. So yes, I think its regional.@@Realistick

We are set to pick up a '24 Sportage EX Hybrid on Monday (Feb 26) and made the choice after considering the RAV4, CRV, and Tucson (all in Hybrid form - non-hybrids did not make the "short list"). Wife's daily driver is a 2017 Ioniq Hybrid, which has been excellent thus far (over 75k), and which she will continue to drive for at least several years (with any luck...). Our experience with the Ioniq and an older Prius have made us firm proponents for Hybrid vehicles. The dual-function climate / radio control scheme does seem like a mis-step, but there are 2 mitigations: 1) there are some redundant audio controls on the steering wheel, and 2) there is a setting that allows you to set a DEFAULT for that control panel, so after usage you would know that it "always" returns to one mode or the other depending on your preference.
@jimh40057 ай бұрын
Both the Car & Driver and Motor Trend reviews are very critical of the poor acceleration of the Sportage EX. More than 9 seconds to go from zero to 60. That's my neighbor's main complaint with his. Makes passing other vehicles difficult. He even added "and going uphill, too." because we live in the mountains. Perhaps the hybrid would be better, being that it has more HP.

I bought a Tucson in December (Merry Christmas to me). I checked out all the usual suspects and it was the most refined and enjoyable for the money. I liked the Sportage exterior styling better, but the Hyundai interior better. I think the Tucson was a bit quieter and rode better too. Plus the Kia dealer was the usual slimy, dealer markup kind of place many Kia dealers are infamous for. Meanwhile the Hyundai dealer had a large inventory on the lot and would actually deal with no pressure. As far as the RAV4 went, the interior is dated, cramped, noisier and rides worse. But it has that rep for top reliability so i get it.

We just decided to buy a Sportage Hybrid EX AWD. Comeing from a 3 year old Buick Envision. The Kia doesn't feel as 'planted' to the ground as our Buick (feels higher up, less car-like handing), and the Hybrid I'm not used to. I also worry bit about the hvac/radio controlls you mentioned, but I think with a couple weeks of driving I'll get used to it. We looked at another Chevy, a CX-50, and a couple others but we have had good experience with Kia in the past, our local dealership is pretty good, and with the price/size of this vehicle, we think it our best choice. Supposed to arrive at the dealership in a couple of weeks.

@mountainhobo11 ай бұрын
"that's an easy decision" - You can decide all you want, as long as you do not actually intend to buy one. Availability on Toyotas is miserable. In my area you can't even go to a dealer and order the Sienna because they have no allocation. I've driven Toyotas for decades, and the cluster that Toyota is going through with the supply chain is giving me a pause for the future.

I kinda like the styling of the Sportage. It’s different enough to stand out, but still understated and handsome from some angles. But my reluctance to buy one of these would be the fact that Kia seems to be more “revolutionary” than “evolutionary” with their design styling in the past few years and I’d be afraid that whenever a refresh or a redo of this comes along in a couple of years, this one will be left looking and feeling “old”. I’ve typically been a VW, MINI, and Subaru owner in the past and those brands all have mostly taken an “evolutionary” approach to updates. Hyundai/Kia….not so much.

"It looks attractive" -- That is Hyundai/Kia's strategy in a nutshell. Utility, practicality and reliability all take a back seat. That philosophy is also why they're doing so well. Sadly, Americans are obsessed with appearances and shop accordingly. Then whine and cry later when their pretty new car turns out to be a polished turd.
@Realistick11 ай бұрын
Id definitely say longevity takes a backseat (I talk about it in the video), however, to say their strategy is to woo people with looks downplays how great the car is to drive for the segment, how versatile it is and the high levels of comfort. They sell well for several reasons, even if that reason isn’t Toyota reliability.
