The salesman told me that they had a hailstorm that got over 150 of their brand new cars. I asked what are you doing with those, he said they will probably get wholesaled to a dealer in the Midwest. Anyway, to make a long story short, I ended up also buying a new 2024 Crosstrek sport for 18 k. Only thing was, no financing available on it, which I was good with because I was paying cash anyway. The biggest benefit for the Crosstrek Wilderness, IMO, is the 3500lb towing capacity via the tranny cooler and the gruntier gearing. The gruntier Wilderness gearing allegedly sacrifices some MPG though. The other stuff? The 2.5L can be had with other trims. The aftermarket can provide suspension, armor, a rear diff-locker, and/or LSDs. The aftermarket can also provide high-clearance steel bumpers with winch-mount/receiver-hitch/tire-carrier.

I noticed the same loss of steering feel and turn in with the Forester Wilderness vs the other Forester's. They did the same thing with the final drive ratio, and it didn't feel like on the road, any gain in acceleration was worth the huge penalty in MPG. In the Outback Wilderness, the 2.4 Turbo is used, and it is substantially quicker than the XT in 0-60. Good topic you chose for review. Nice to see the back-to-back on the different configurations of the Crosstrek. 3500 lbs towing capacity is impressive in the Wilderness version.

The trick to getting the CVT to shift is 2 fold. One, you paddle shift it, if your foot is in the floor, use the paddle shifter and force it to shift, it helps a lot. The other is letting off ever so slightly on the gas, then hitting it again, that also forces it to shift. I had a 1st gen crosstrek that did the same thing, and while they've updated the CVT, when I test drove whats now my Wilderness, I remembered that, and surprsingly, the salesperson didn't know about those 2 tricks and was wondering how I got it to shift so well.

Driving to work at the time, id often get caught at lights just before I got there on a dual carriageway ring road. If I was at the front it would be fun. The reason you dont feel any benefit on the turbo is flooring the pedal and revving at 6000 rev. At 6000 , the engine torque is at a all time bottom and the extra dispacement the least contributive. The main benefit of having a bigger displacement is to achieve a performance with less revving and less noise and smoother. It's not like you gonne shave 2 sec off on the 0-60 . specially with the foot all the way down. The reason to go the 5000-6000 rev range before shifing is that you found yourself out on 4000-4500 rev range in next shift. While the CVT has " no gear" , what's the point to stay at 6000 all the time, none.
@Realistick3 ай бұрын
I feel like i may need to make a video explaining what power and torque mean. Peak power comes from torque and rpm, it’s the rpm where the engine can do the most work. issue (preventing purchase) with the C'trek is total lack of ventilated seat availability (06:36). Otherwise compelling. Except when my mid-millennial eyes tell my cranium im seeing a Pontiac vibe or Toyota matrix. which is cool for memberberries but not so much for $30k+.

I have a clean '06 vibe next to my Crosstrek in the garage... They are almost identical in profile. I'm obviously a vibe fan so that was a positive. This channel helped sell me on the Crosstrek and I could not be happier (thank you, btw). Put snow tires on this thing and you will pray for snow. Edit: I have the limited trim and the pleather seats are ventilated. A drawback for me as I cringe at the thought of potential spills leaking into the cushions.

It would be fun to see a comparison between generations as well. Like the 2011 Impreza 2.5 vs the 2012 Impreza 2.0. I am biased since I own the 2011 Impreza and am curious, but this idea can be applied to other generations of other vehicles as well.

I might try that when a new gen drops again, perhaps the forester?

Did you get permission to use footage from driving sport TV?😮
@Realistick4 ай бұрын
In the past, folks have tagged my channel name when they use my footage for b-roll and plug me in the video (like I do here) . KZbin has a feature called “mentions” where you tag the creator in the description and it notifies them. Though I do think sending them an email would be more courteous, I’ll give them an email if I need some more offroad footage sometime✌️

I miss when Subaru wasn't building cars mostly for families and 70 year old ladies who think themselves as quirky people. In the US, car companies are too hyper-focused on theoretical family unit type drivers, as though that's all that need cars here. The US is all full up with crossover and CUV offerings. We're officially the most boring car market on the planet now.

Ha! I am one of those 70 year old quirky women. Had a 2.5 Crosstrek loaner and loved it. My 2011 Outback now feels heavy and sluggish.

You often times hear the response to people who prefer Subarus with manual transmissions, "Well if more people bought them, then Subaru would've kept that option available." Only pairing a manual option with their weakest engine available had a lot to do with declining manual sales. The Crosstrek gets so many things right except for only offering one transmission option. Love the CTW but I have no interest in a CVT. We also hear, "Subaru prefers making vehicles with CVTS because it's cheaper for them to manufacture." Yet for the consumer, 8-10k to replace a CVT, because they are rarely "fixable", it's somehow all of a sudden NOT A CHEAP TRANSMISSION. How is a CVT cheap to put in a vehicle during the build out, but outrageously expensive for consumers to replace? Just fishy and doesn't add up.

Because it's a Valve Body issue. Change your CVT fluid every 40k miles and it'll outlast the ownership.

10 second 0-60 almost seems dangerous. My goodness I feel bad for a young driver learning to merge on the highway for the first time.
@Realistick7 ай бұрын
It’s not that slow. Having owned a much slower vehicle, it’s only dangerous if you’re reckless when pulling out or merging!
@labradachig19767 ай бұрын
Not at all. I know a young driver learning to merge in a 20-year old Elantra, getting 0-60 in about 12 seconds. The only dangerous thing is inconsiderate drivers these days.

That's funny, I used a Passport GT-2 G-timer on 2021's, both the 2.0 & 2.5 Crosstreks. 0-60 @ 9.0 with a base & 7.8 with the 2.5 Limited

At the end of the day, it's a 4 cylinder boxer and not a V6. I own the 24 Crosstrek Premium. The moment I sat down at the dealership, I spoke my mind and told them exactly what I thought about Subaru's weak engine, but I was there to buy a Subaru. Which is why I own it right now. If not I would have walked across the street to the Toyota dealership.

Your crosstrek sport is so slow, mine did 7.6 sec with dragy verified.
@Realistick7 ай бұрын
That’s what i got with the previous gen, I don’t know why it did that here but the wilderness also had the same stutter at low speeds so it could be a software change. I’ll get one from Subaru’s press fleet and see if that changes anything.
@taelee3477 ай бұрын
I think I know what you mean. Didn’t C&D also get 7.5 would previous gen crosstrek sport?
@anthonyng30147 ай бұрын
Wow, so no matter how much money you throw at Subaru they can't even make a Crosstrek that goes below 8.5s... I don't know of any other manufacturer that has all these different engine and transmission combos yet making less than 10% difference at the end of the day between the base model and the top trim. What's even the point of all the different combinations when they make negligible difference in real-world performance?
@Realistick7 ай бұрын
They usually make a bigger difference but the transmission tuning held it back until 25-30 mph so the real world passing power is definitely improved
@anthonyng30147 ай бұрын
@@RealistickThanks for the clarification. So if I understand you correctly, the 2.5 accelerates markedly faster from 25mph onwards but is slower from 0-25mph. Regardless of the reasons behind this, I guess it makes the 2.5 better on the highway and the 2.0 better for stop light drag races (which it will never win anyway) ;)
@danielfair46757 ай бұрын
that's funny, I used a Passport GT-2 G-timer on both engine versions in 2021 trim. Base was 9.0 ... 0-60 and a Limited got me 7.8 .... same day, same weather done less than an hour apart.

Wilderness editions look like a parody of regular Subarus. I could not imagine driving a Wilderness version of any Subaru and not feeling embarrassed the entire time.
@HarryKuloh7 ай бұрын
They look just fine. They look better.
@js95227 ай бұрын
I prefer the Wilderness aesthetic vs the standard models. I don't want to look like every other car on the road. Not your cup of tea? Cool. But there are others that really dig the deviation. Plus, all that extra cladding is functional. They are all easily replaceable if damaged on the trail and the front bumper is made up of 3 pieces, so you can replace the damaged piece rather than the entire bumper.
@robdog12452 ай бұрын
I love my Wilderness. It's a great little car, and I like that its higher, its got AT's, and it has a beefier suspension, not to mention double the tow capacity, AND I can go anywhere a 4Runner or Bronco can go and get 2x the MPG. If I wanted a Fix Or Repair Daily I'd have gotten one, but since Ford has a terrible reputation, and 4Runners are 60k for a base model, I didn't.
