That weather stripping reduces heat reduction. Let the engineers do the thinking bud

Reduces heat reduction? Try not to use a double negative using the same word. The weather stripping increases heat build up is what I believe you were trying to say. And no, it doesn't have to. Plenty of other manufacturers have used weather stripping to keep the engine compartment cleaner while still providing an adequate cooling solution for the engine and components. He even listed one. Try taking your own advice.

Initially, the auto start/stop was disengaged when you were testing it. Indicated by the orange "A" on the dash display. I turn my Forester's system off every time I drive.

First he complains that it gets less MPG with the more powerful boxer, then later he complains about it not having an even more powerful engine like a Turbo. Either way, Subaru loses.
@markblankenship5788

Yeah, just one of those people that likes to complain. The start stop can be controlled with pressure on the brake alone. Push hard it’ll shut off if the perimeters are met, the mileage is slightly lower because the gearing has been changed to tow more, along with the tranny cooler. This car wasn’t designed just for YOU. The glare on the screen. Just change the position of the car. The in lane app works great for me. It doesn’t bounce from side to side like you mention. I love my Subaru. I have now problems and I’ve had Range Rover, Porsches, Vw’ s.

I’ve got a 2015 Outback with 210,000 miles on the original cvt. All I’ve done is keep up with the scheduled maintenance, and it has been very reliable. It definitely won’t win any drag races, but the Outback has taken my family and I everywhere we’ve wanted to go with no troubles. I plan on replacing it with another Outback or the wilderness Crosstrek.

I own a CTW and I agree with all your points. My biggest gripe is the gas mileage. I now avoid the interstate on my commute and take the frontage road instead. It takes a few extra minutes but I now average 27mpg instead of 22mpg. That being said tho there are no other cars on the market that I can afford that meet my wants and needs like the CTW does. I still love the car and truthfully if I had to choose between the more aggressive power delivery that the final drive provides or the better mpg of the regular CT’s 2.5 I would still pick the wilderness! I’ve driven both and the regular CT feels lethargic in comparison.
@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 8 ай бұрын
That’s awesome! I don’t blame you for taking the highway. It’s so crazy how drastically different these do with MPG at highway vs. interstate speeds. I’m currently filming an MPG video in my OWB from 60mph-80mph and the results so far are shocking lol.
@adamblakeley5865

Just a tip on the Auto Start/Stop…. I have a 22 CT Limited and my salesperson actually told me this trick. It’s a pressure based system. So the harder the brake pedal is pushed the more likely it is to engage the system. So when at a stop all it takes is releasing a tiny amount of pressure on the pedal and it will not engage. At first it takes actual thought to remember to do this but I’ve had mine for 2 years now and I guess I have developed muscle memory for it and do it automatically now mine very rarely engages. And when it does I basically just have to adjust my foot on the pedal and the engine restarts. Just another option if someone doesn’t want the hassle of booping the kill button every time they get in the car. Another thing I learned is it’s not actually a US government regulation. It’s a regulation for other countries. So any vehicle platform sold in multiple countries will have the feature that way it saves the manufacturer spending money to set that feature based on which market it’s going to. Not all US sold vehicles have the auto start/stop.
@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 8 ай бұрын
Great insight and I appreciate you sharing! I hadn’t heard about the auto start/stop being sold in multiple markets influence. Something interesting and silly is with my OBW if I lightly hold the brake pedal it vibrates as it wants to move/lurch forward and rotate the wheels. I’m not sure if that’s the torque at idle and more aggressive final drive, but I’ve never had another car that does that.
@adamblakeley5865
@adamblakeley5865 8 ай бұрын
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 it could be the 4.11 final, I don’t get the shuttering in my limited at light brake pressure. So I wonder if it would act the same on the CTW since I believe it has the same final drive as the OBW. Love your videos and always look forward to them.
@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 8 ай бұрын
The Outback actually has a 4.44 final drive. You’re probably right about that being the reason. It’s almost like a very mild version of when I brake rev a powerful automatic car to launch, and the tires/front brakes don’t hold and it abruptly tries to move the car forward. Like an AWD hellcat or 6.2 Chevy on stock tires. Just the tiny baby version of that lol. Thanks, I really appreciate it! I have a lot of fun making them. 🙂

Really?? Which US manufacture does not include the auto Start/Stop in their line up?? Please, let me know because as far as I know all 2023-2024 models have this dumb things that don’t save you any money…because it wears out things faster, which causes you to pay for repairs or even buying another car. Gotta say that “ruin” is an awful strong word given that the items you list are annoyances or low probability failures. Also, isn’t this a rehash of a video you did on the outback not too long ago? The content seems awful familiar, just sayin.
@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 8 ай бұрын
Ruin probably is a pretty strong word, you’re right. It’s similar to that Outback video from about half a year ago, as you’d expect since these vehicles are very similar. But a few of the issues are different and the emphasis I’m trying to place this time around and on this model is slightly different. Such as I’m no longer in the mindset that “CVT” is bad, but rather the CVT in my experience is actually pretty good at doing what it was designed to do, but it should not cost 10k to replace. Which 10k average isn’t what Google said but that’s what people in forums have been quoted by their dealer. And knowing that, I personally don’t plan to keep my OBW past its warranty before I move on to the next experience. Basically a lot of these concerns keep cycling around in comments and forums so I wanted to redo my original rushed Crosstrek Wilderness issues video and provide better Subaru distinctions that cause some potential buyers to pass them up. Every car and platform has its subtle pros and cons. Thanks for watching!
@LAAO369
@LAAO369 8 ай бұрын
Agreed, although I semi agree with the CVT comment, I think people need to stop complaining about Subaru’s CVT. It’s probably one of the best in the market. Regardless of what people say of Subaru’s CVT, it doesn’t seems likely that Subaru’s going back to a regular automatic. They’ve been cemented and Subaru has been full steam ahead with the CVT development since the 2010’s.

Hello, coming from me.. A serious subaru owner and enthusiast, I love the new crosstrek. Ive owned 2 wrx's and an sti.. put more than 350,000 miles on the 3 put together and now moved to my first crosstrek about 6 months ago. My family owns many subarus , from the outback to the forester and even a legacy. But im 40 now and went with the new crosstrek sport, and coming from even a heavily modded wrx i dont mind the power in this thing. Its enough to get it done. The other gripes you have i understand though. Poor gas mileage and the touchscreen is ...ehhh, as well as the auto shut off...uhgg its annoying, but there is a button to turn it off at least. Overall if your looking for a great value and a vehicle thats capable for snow and just every day driving, this is an amazing vehicle. I have no regrets moving away from the cars and into this. Would also say i dont miss the manual transmission, with how congested traffic is anymore it was just a leg cramp😂. Maybe its just me getting older but i dont mind the cvt.

It's important to mention that Subaru's CVT is in-house. Not the absolute garbage Jatco CVT used by Nissan and a surprising number of other brands. Still, it's a CVT. Best to get the CVT flushed every 30K miles so the CVT won't malfunction. Cheaper than buying a new CVT. Should help the vehicle last at least 100K miles. Though personally speaking, I'm glad there are still some options out there that use a traditional automatic trans.
@js9522
@js9522 8 ай бұрын
As a Juke owner, this recommended exchange interval is a minimum, with turbo models recommended as often as 15k. And its best not to do a full flush, just drain and refill as many CVTs don't like going from old fluid to 100% new fluid. Yes this is experience with Nissan, but zero problems with a problem prone CVT and over 140000 miles using this method.

People are always going to complain about something. I've driven a Crosstrek Wilderness for 11 months, well over 20,000 miles. The Crosstrek Wilderness is the best off-roader crossover on the market, beats the RAV4 TRD by a lot. It has a CVT cooler and the Toyota's CVT overheats off-road when put through the same level of stress as the Subaru. I get mid 30's for MPG on the highway at 60 to 65 MPH. Mind you this thing has the differentials geared so it tows 3500 pounds. Backup camera complaints?!? Dude, the thing is for you to backup, not watch your favorite movie. If that's not good enough for you, use your mirrors as you have for most of your life! And lastly, I've driven Acuras, GMCs, and Toyotas and none of their lane keeping and adaptive cruise control systems work better than a Subaru. No the Crosstrek Wilderness is not for your average customer. But it IS the best bang for your buck. As is a y Crosstrek trim in this category. Get one, you will love it!!!

We have also come to expect more from Subaru than comparable priced choices. They always tried harder and gave you a little more in the mechanical aspects. I totally get that and specifically chose to leave the pricing issue at rest for this video. I can’t remember if you saw my original 7 issues video with the this new Wilderness about a week after I first drove it for my review video. My initial impressions were not great, especially because of the price. I kind of rushed that original video near the end of the day and after filming other stuff that day so I wanted to redo it with a more thought out version, that also wouldn’t hurt as many feelings of those who are happy with their purchase. It was the first Subaru trim level I drove and did not see the value in. But they look overall cool and stand out and for that reason I think my opinion has softened a bit.

All relevant issues. I spoke to a woman recently who had all the Crosstrek (XV in Australia) releases and upgrades (4 vehicles over 8 years) and was disappointed with the 2024 version. The three main issues were - it doesn't feel as "planted" on the road (more floaty), the seats are not comfortable, and the large touch screen sucks. She thought the 2021 version was the best version so far, and the best car she had owned. I have a 2021 XV and was just looking at what turned out to be her latest Crosstrek in a car park when she approached me and started canning it. I can't comment as I have not driven the latest version, only sat in one in the showroom. Interesting comments from her.

Subaru "ruined" the Crosstrek by not offering a turbocharged powerplant option, or at least a powerplant with over 200hp, keeping "some" buttons on the infotainment system, a manual transmission option and lastly, ditch that gaudy, " gold-tooth prison mug" accent trim. A titanium, gunmetal, or carbon fiber look would be better, hell even continuing the chosen body color to carry over into these accent arras is better. I love Subaru and the Crosstrek but Subaru needs to breathe a more sporty life into it.

I don’t care about the gas mileage. I can careless! What I care about is reliability beyond 20years/200K miles. Paying 10K for a new cvt under 100K is not what I would call a reliability!! It’s funny…everybody is throwing the “magic” 100K miles around as if it was some kind of great accomplishment that engine made to 100K. How about making it 200K miles!!! What somebody wants to keep and use the same vehicle 20 years or longer??? The standards of cars longevity are being lowered and its presented to us as a normal thing. And the 2024 CT wilderness is not different.

I’ve had my 24 Crosstrek Wilderness for about three months now and I have only a couple small critiques… 1st, I would like to have a little more horsepower to get off the line quicker. 0 to 60 is certainly lagging and some more horsepower and/or a turbo option would be outstanding. Even with the initial lag, this car does have a decent amount of power to it for only 182 hp. And the only thing I think I would also change besides that is the gold colored accents on the roof rack and the bumpers… I really don’t like the color and I would love to have had the choice to have them just flat black. I bought the Alpine green color and it is an absolutely cool color but that gold accent just does not go well with it. I’m gonna go ahead and paint those at some point so that’s not that big of an issue.

Before one buys a Subaru check out the outstanding class action suites .. I didn't know bout this on my 2021 Crosstrek and I finally had to get rid of mine or loose my insurance. In 23000 miles I had 5 windshields .. and the 5th one already had a repair. The Eyesite system almost got me killed twice. I filed with Subaru about these incidents and never heard a word. I had completely gone thru my Crosstrek .. Bilstein suspension, lifted 2", BFG KO2's. So I did a lot of off roading with the Trek but all those minor things became 'big' things. Traded it on a 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road and in the last 13K miles I haven't lost a single windshield. I was also dissapointed with the fact that you can't flat tow a CVT transmission .. at least not a Subaru.

(The orange A with the arrow going around it and the off under neath it.) this symbol in most modern vehicles will only appear when the button has been pressed to disable start/stop for that drive. and will not appear when restarting the vehicle, the next time you get in it. Your video has been helpful. I really like the Crosstrek, both the Wilderness and other trims. But I have to say no to this car, mostly because of the fuel economy. Since I do a lot of city driving I want better than 25 mpg. Reading the Subaru forums many owners report less fuel economy than what Subaru says. I don't know how the start/stop feature will affect long term engine life. I can turn it off but then the mpg will decrease. The vertical info screen also gets complaints. I'm going to hold back on buying a Subaru for now, and see what 2026 brings.

Just purchased a 2024 Outback Limited 3 weeks ago, and I've put 3 long highway drives on it. My observation is that the Lane Centering is so awful it should never be in any car, but I'm finding the Lane Keep Assist to be beneficial. Instead of the aggressive irritating way Centering grabs the wheel Lane Keep Assist gently nudges the wheel just as a warning light reminds you. So far I'm really liking my Outback, but I would agree with your thoughts on the infotainment system. I'm much more distracted now that my 2014 Outback, and it's irritating just how many "taps" are required just to drive a mile for a quart of milk. Oh.... I run Android Auto and yesterday I tried the Subaru map.... Just horrible.

Love my CTW 11.6 “ infotainment screen ! Just came home from a 2000 mile road trip and loved using both Apple Maps and Google maps for voice activated navigation that had awesome resolution and could be used in satellite mode to see the surrounding landscape features as opposed to a cartoon screen. Seamless and easy to use. Also the screen orientation was perfect when using it for navigation. Also easy to black out if desired. Most people that I hear complaints from have not used and operated the system enough to understand all the cool features. Never would purchase a car manufacturers Navi. They are overpriced and become outdated fast. My Navi updates via a new phone/software update seamlessly. The lane centering feature is not perfect but performed very well and much better than the older version in my past 2021 CW. The worst feeling is when passing other vehicles that were swaying towards my lane and I preferred to disengage my lane centering to move further away from them. I did not want a turbocharged engine as it brings more maintenance and cost to maintain. The CTW is adequate especially with the 4:11 gear ratio. I agree with poorer gas mileage as compared to my 2021 with the same engine. But as noted the gear ratio, added lift and tires contribute to this fact. I still have mixed feelings about the gold/ bling and cladding. Have thoughts about blocking out the bling look. Can’t understand why I didn’t get a front camera and agree the resolution and image size on the rear camera is poor. Loved the wireless phone charging and wireless apple car play connection via Bluetooth. Also found it easy to toggle between both my phone and my wife’s phone. Connectivity was fast and efficient upon starting the vehicle. I love the comfort of the seats even after this super long trip. Super glad I purchased a CTW even though it is not perfect. However what vehicle is ?

I agree with the turbo comment. Having experience with turbo motors and CVTs, they really aren't a good pairing. CVTs, no matter how good, don't play well with higher torque. The Nissan Juke Nismo RS is a great example. Sure it's a crappy CVT to start, but Nissan tuned the car to keep torque lower vs the manual models because they know the inherent limitations of CVTs. The more torque you throw at them, the faster they wear out and the shorter they tend to last. This is largely due to lack of educating customers on the ideal drain/fill intervals for peak operation. For triple the cost of a standard auto, this is no bueno.

It's frustrating that people have been complaining about the "infotainment system" since it debuted in the 2020 Outback, and since then, Subaru has continued to release model after model using the same system. Gah! Also, 100% agree with the comment about the manual being the most fun Crosstrek you've driven. If they would provide a PROPER ENGINE WITH A MANUAL OPTION, it would probably bring the enthusiast crowd back. The CVT is shite. There is slow moderate and really fast. Like I said I need to play with the controls more to figure out the function. Sorry one more gripe is this is a 36000 dollar vehicle why doesn't this model have an automatic trunk open and close but not a major gripe. Sometimes those automatic trunk open and close can be too slow and not worthy on a vehicle unless your hands are full. Maybe it is smarter to get the Onyx model with the 2.5, but with less offroad capable tires, no sunroof and with the crappy stereo. Then you get the 33mpg, save some money and the AWD is capable enough. Buy some better speakers and a sub, buy a 2nd set of wheels for offroading or winter, and some skid plates, tow points - that pushes the total cost towards Wilderness but you retain better mpg. Auto START/STOP needs to be OUTLAWED!!! PERIOD.. It's just STUPID.. just excessive wear and tear and once it gets some miles on it-- it will end up USING more gas to restart than if it had kept running the 30 seconds it needs to stop.

My CTW is the best car I’ve ever had! I enjoy driving it so much better than my previous Jeep Wrangler or Rav 4, and since I often go off road to remote camping/hiking areas in the PNW it’s great! Your critic seems to be hyperbole and misguided.

Subaru Crosstrek Sport or Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid?
@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 8 ай бұрын
I’ve not driven the CC Hybrid yet, but I would assume the Crosstrek is definitely more off road capable. But toyota Hybrids in general are awesome for efficiency and reliability, and are tuned really well. But it likely doesn’t have a very competent AWD system like other hybrid Toyotas, so be aware of that if it matters to you or if you are depending on that. 🤷‍♂️🙂

Yeah, they are! And the Geolanders are really good IMO for a factory tire. At 36k miles on my heavier OBW they still have 7-8/32” dread depth.

How many I hate crosstrek Wilderness videos do you make? Do you have anything good to say about this car or is it the bane of your existence? Personally, I love it!

Lol, this was actually the second and probably last one. I wasn’t very impressed with the first one I made. It was at the end of a long day, the weather was extra windy so I was talking a bit loud, and it wasn’t as thought out or presented as well as I would have liked. If you watch my other videos I hope it’s evident that I love Subarus in general. But for some reason the Crosstrek Wilderness rubs me the wrong way, lol. It’s still a great option and I don’t mean to speak poorly about your ride!

Back in auto tech I learned that starting an engine (especially when cold) is the hardest part of using it. That paired with AS/S technology not being a long standing technology that has years of proven results of it in fact being reliable with over built starter motors has me slightly questioning ‘if’ it will be reliable or leave you stranded in 10 years. But the main issue is Subarus don’t do AS/S well, other systems/platforms are more developed.

Sorry but seems really out of touch with car features 29 mpg is great, the infotainment center is a huge plus on this car not a negative, auto stop/start easily turned off its a non issue, backup camera is half the screen for formatting purposes lol hes complaining about luxory features? that most cars dont have?

I have found that the value it is showing for mpg Is more accurate than my 2018 premium (always showed 2 mpg more than my findings at fill up) where it is about .5 mpg more in my 2024 Sport, so that could explain the discrepancies, if the people complaining are going just by what the screen is telling them.
