Hi everyone, it’s been a few days and I want to thank everyone for the great response to this video. It seems that many of us are retired resellers or wanna be resellers in retirement. If I’m a little slow this next week in responding to comments, well, we are off on an adventure to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary! If you’re new to our channel, I invite you to check out the many videos that I have for you to watch. They are organized by playlists. Thank you again for all of your kind comments and support! Mark and I truly appreciate you! 🙂❤️🙂👍

Just found your channel. It came at the perfect time because I've been looking for senior hustlers. I spent 42 years as a reseller. I'd buy at yard sales, estate sales, thrift stores then sell at the flea market. I just recently got back to it. I move slower, takes me longer to list/ship. It's fun & exhausting. More seniors are looking to make extra cash. Social Security doesn't cover much especially with this economy. You kept saying that we resellers ar trading out time for $$$...but isn't that the same thing we've done our whole working life? The only difference is now we are in control!!!! Just 2 weeks ago, I bought a shoebox FULL of silverware. In the box was 37 pieces of Towle sterling silver all in the same pattern. I paid 25CENTS a piece & sold them within an hour for $1150.00!!!!!!!!!! Treasures are still out there. Thank you for your videoes....

Yes we have been trading our time for money our whole lives. Naively, perhaps, I thought we actually got to “retire” at some point. Lol. My parents did. Although, my Mom did crochet towels for extra spending money. Yes, I guess you could say we’re in control but then again, not so much. We control what we buy and what we list (price etc) but after that it’s completely up to ebay (etc) for our items to be shown and potentially sold. WOW on your sale! That’s fantastic!!!! Woohoo to you! Happy for you!

I retired at 55 from teaching. I subbed for a few years, opened a " blinky" business where I sold at events and parades. At 63 I moved to Florida and started Ebay at 67. I love love it! I use the extra money for things I want and unexpected expenses. I'm 70 now and love the thrill of thrifting and selling!

Vickie and Mark, all that was missing from this video was a little wine and cheese. It felt like we were just good friends sharing our reselling experiences, our thoughts about our future and especially how it feels to be lucky enough to have reached an age where we are made to realize that we will not live forever. (I’m 79). I was happy to learn some new things about you, friends. Thanks for sharing. Good luck and happiness in the days to come.

Thank you, Pat and what a sweet way to put it! At least you didn’t say that I was “whining,” although I somewhat was when Mark was accusing me of being a thriftaholic! Lol. I really wish that I could meet all of you in person and put a face and a voice to your names. I’d be sure to give you and everyone else a hug! Thank you Pat!

Ms Vickie and Mr Mark - it’s a southern tradition I also discovered when we moved to Atlanta from the midwest 😉 I my opinion this is your best video ever (and I have watched them all)! The TV interview style with the video recording border was fabulous! You two (aka y’all in the south) answered so many questions with full transparency and from the heart. And discussing your wills, disposition of your possessions, handling all the accounts (online, etc) was spot on. You tackled a hard subject and will most definitely help others to plan things before it’s too late. Vickie, I don’t produce videos, but know this one took you a long time to edit and publish. I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all you and Mark do for all of us.❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏

Yes, that must be it..."southern tradition." Thank you for ALL of your compliments on this video! I had the idea over a month ago. I lined it up and we video'd on Tuesday (we didn't start until after lunchtime). It was quite a task to get it all edited in time to release yesterday morning. Mark didn't know the questions and both of our responses were totally unplanned and completely "unscripted." He surprised me with many of his responses to the questions! Yes, it did require some "late into the evening" editing Tuesday and Wednesday. The good thing is I'm on "vaca" from videos for the next two weeks! You are so welcome Clarissa from the bottom of our hearts!

Thanks for your video. Your transparency and honesty made me feel right at home. So many videos are not as open as you have been and I appreciate that. I too am retired and recently started at 70. We are like you too needing extra money so we don't have to use our savings. The economy has made us reconsider that it is almost necessary to work at something. I've discovered how much time it takes and is concerning but so far I love it. I've always loved thrifting, garage sales, auctions, etc. It's the thrill of the hunt!

You’re so welcome, Tammy! Glad you enjoyed the personal side of us. I realize that we haven’t shared a whole lot, especially Mark. Since we were talking about reselling in retirement, I thought it appropriate to share what we did before we got to this point. And yes, I shared the reality of reselling because, well I guess that’s what I do. I don’t sugarcoat things. I had a lady comment this week that I was very negative in one of my videos when shopping. I explained that I share and teach other resellers about things to buy or not and not everything is good to buy to resell. And, that I don’t sugarcoat things. I make “reality for resellers” type of videos. Thank you!

Bill (my husband) is 72 and retiring, again, at the end of the month and I am a full-time caregiver for my 87 yr. old father and 62 yr. old autistic brother. I (59) initially started off selling on eBay as something that was just for me that I could do part-time. Bill wanted to join in on the fun, so here we are. Truthfully, I regret getting into reselling, because I did it a year ago, sure enjoyed sourcing at the time, but I’m 77 years old and my husband 78. He has Parkinson’s and I have disc issues. I really enjoy various aspects of this business, but I just had hernia surgery and the reality of aging is hitting me hard. Thank you. I’m going to start going to estate sales and auctions and deciding on how I’ll end my business. Thank you, again.

The most beautiful thing about your reselling journey is that you do it together, the time spent together is precious, I wish I had that with someone special. In today's economy it is very difficult to just be retired, so I do understand needing the extra money, many of us are going thru the same thing, the blessing is you have each other. First of all, thank you so much for the personal insight into how your run your business and your approach. This is greatly appreciated. Your wedding photo is darling, what a beautiful couple and you still are! I am 64 and not retired, I run another small business and have a rental property which helps. Like you, I love the sourcing and the money, the rest is what is needed to be able to continue to source and have money. I have been through much of the things you have in reselling - buying regrets, inventory that doesn't sell, lag in listing and death piles. I long ago decided not to beat myself up for what I don't get done. I am small but ramping up and still make time for adventures when I can. I love Mark's dry humor and laugh out loud to see you both banter back and forth. I really appreciate your view that is based in reality and that you have a plan. Just a big thank you from me on sharing all that you have shared!

You’re so welcome and thank you for all your kind remarks about us and this video. It sounds like you are managing a lot yourself. Still working with other ventures to manage as well. I wrote the questions but Mark didn’t know what they were going to be. Neither one of us had answers formulated for the questions and so it was all off the cuff. He always surprises me too with his dry sense of humor. He really got me with the “title” of Mr. and Mrs. or King or Queen. Lol. He’s downstairs right now walking on the treadmill and watching the video by himself. Mainly, because if he were to watch it with me tonight, as we sit on the sofa, he would promptly fall asleep! And then I’d have to keep nudging him to wake up. I’m laughing as I write this! Thank you so much!

As a small scale reseller trying to decide if I want to continue after I retire in a few years, this video gives me more things to think about. My husband has not helped at all and I resell on top of my full time job. My husband is now saying that he wants me to continue and wants me to teach him how to help. I've been having him watch your videos so he can see Mark's part in your reselling retirement. This video will be a must for us to watch together now that I've seen it. I don't love reselling but I do love the extra money it provides. I've worked hard building up a pension and investments over 41 years of full time work with maybe another 4 years to go. Do I really want to keep working by switching one career for another? I think time and the economy will tell the real story. The will and additional information you are providing will be invaluable to your families. We've done something similar and continue to update it when necessary. Thanks again for being so transparent.

You two are so cute together! It’s great that you’re both into reselling! Me and my husband are both retired, but my husband has no interest in reselling. lol. I started selling on eBay in 1997 while I was still working a full time job. It was fun and novel at the time. After about 10 years, I burned out on it. But I’ve been retired 10 years now and doing my art and making polymer clay jewelry. It is a hobby and I don’t sell any of it but give it to family and friends. My husband is an active bicyclist and loves to garden. But, I have decided to start up my eBay , which I still have the same account. I buy sometimes and rarely sell something. I’ve been thinking about it and after watching a few videos of people like yourselves I think I will get into it again. I love looking for the treasures. Thank you for your knowledge, it’s changed a lot since I sold before and your info will help me out. Good Luck with your sales!

Mark has been in and out of reselling. I'm so happy he's been "in" again for several years. Yes, ebay has changed but there are a lot of new selling features that can be helpful. I think it's most important to know your "sold comps" and sell through rate "active vs. sold" when looking for things to resell. Not that I don't still pick up things because they "are cute." LOL. Welcome back to reselling. I have over 200 videos that you might find helpful. Thank you!

After a career in international marketing, I left my job to go to culinary school at age 55. I’d traveled to 40 countries over the years and always planned to retire somewhere in Asia or Europe. Then the pandemic hit, and I started reselling from home to pay the bills. Now 4 years later, I have a thriving reselling business that supplements my Social Security and pension. But I also have so much inventory (3500+ listings) I can’t move overseas! I really didn’t think this through…

You can still visit. Use your time away. You can do it for one month at a time and end it a day before your store goes live and do another month and another after that giving you the maximum amount of time to visit the Schengen Area. I do this every summer so I can stay at my retirement cabin. I made sure to not be gone more than 89 days because after 90 if you have Top Seller status you will lose it. I will be losing that status this summer. I’m at the point now that I feel life is far to short. Both my husband and I worked a lifetime to be able to spend time at our cabin. eBay can take a backseat.

Such a great topic esp at the end! My parents are in their 80’s and my dad has finally agreed to sell the acreage. Buildings full of old cars, tools etc….he can’t get out there to work and has been stubborn. We are now getting ready to sell it all. Something none of us kids want to deal with when they are gone. But such a great video touching on so many things!! Really enjoyed. Thanks and Be Blessed!

Hi! I just discovered your channel. Very informative video. Very nice that you shared your preparation of your will and wishes. Most people never take the time to plan for their death. It’s just a reality. On that note & not to be morbid, but I feel it is so helpful for those who are left if the decedent writes their own obituary. It takes the stress off of the family in a time of sorrow and crisis to put something together in a time crunch…

Thank you for all the effort you put into your videos! We, the viewers, benefit tremendously. We cannot be thankful enough. One suggestion is trying out selling at a flea market as an alternative to eBay for your low-value items. It could be a great way to clear out inventory that takes too much time to list online…no sales and listing fees, no shipping, only a modest space fee. I tried it and was pleasantly surprised.

Thank you for your suggestion, Sue. Actually, when we were at the flea market last weekend, I considered it until I realized all of the dust that I would have to contend with as an outdoor vendor. I absolutely loved this video. A big thank you to the both of you from the depths of my being. I was speaking to my son with regards to your channel a few days back. I informed him how disappointed I was that you don't have at least 100,000 subscribers. With the deep dives on many of the types of items you sell, the how to, humor, nature, realness of it all. Omgosh I teared up on the 15/20 years you stated you may have left😟. I know you stated you have pretty much everything written and planned. How about the youtube channels? Will they live on? This channel is phenominal and just perhaps like many good things it will be appreciated more after you no longer make new ones. Is it part of your Will, what would you like to do with it or just shut it down? Well, these are many of the things we all must think about with all aspects of life and death. Again, I appreciate the research, time and diligence in doing these videos. Take good care. ❤🙏

Thank you so much Ruby and you are so welcome! I'd be happy to reach 10,000.....especially since I've been working our channel for five years! Thus, why I often feel defeated at times. It is hard to face the reality that we are in the "countdown" years. Thus, why we are trying hard to find a better balance between reselling and adventures. As to the channel, your question resulted in looking it up last night. I guess I can assign a "manager" for the account and keep it up; however, the ad revenue (and no doubt exposure of the videos) would dissolve within six months or less. Just like on ebay, inactivity results in less or no exposure (unless people are actively seeking out my videos). I know I've followed channels and then they just stop uploading and I always wonder if they're okay or if they just stopped uploading. Thank you again for your kind remarks and support of our channel!

I no longer sell on eBay due to the odd and ever-changing regulations but I do sell online. Your advice is so legit! And I totally sympathize with the depression that comes when sales are down. The retail market is so fickle--why else would major stores have end-of-season sales with so much stock? No one really know who will buy what when. I really appreciate your honest sharing. And I hope you can retire for REAL sooner than you expect.

So true about “inventory” and the challenges of deciding what to buy to resell. ebay sold comps vary greatly. I don't know what your desired adventures are, but I just wanted to respectively advise you to not keep putting them off. My sister had to go alone to Yellowstone because her husband died at 60, it had been their dream. My brother lost his wife at 56, he had to travel out west alone. My husband and I want to travel, and cannot afford hotels, or eating out, so we bought a minivan and turned it into a camper. Now gas is our only expense. When I wanted to go to Yellowstone before I met my husband, there was no way I could afford to stay there, so I went to work there. Stayed for almost free and got paid. All this to say...to live your dreams sometimes you must think outside the box that you put them into, and if you wait until you have the money, the chance may be lost forever. Good luck, and thank you for the lovely video.

Hi both! Great video. I just officially retired April 1 and am busy traveling snd taking care of family business but come August I will be working on eBay reselling full time (from my part time status). However, my retirement plan includes doing this for 10 years. I enjoy it but as you said it is a lot of work. The money is for things like home and car repairs and extras like travel so we leave our savings alone. All this of course as you said depends on health. You are smart to have everything mapped out. That is on my to do list for my husband and I.

I just shared this video with my sister as she and her husband resell as well, have a huge death pile and are older. I especially think the details you shared at 1:19 onward in the video were very relevant for them. You don’t want to leave this for your family to deal with as you said. Better to have a plan mapped out to deal with unsold inventory etc. Again I want to say this is such a great video and something ALL resellers should watch and think about implementing.

I agree about what you said about eBay - it seems like they feed us just enough to keep our hopes up but we have to continue to spend money to have items to list. Which if you are trying to make extra money defeats the purpose. I've been selling on eBay since the late 80's and this is the worst I've seen it as a seller. Scams, ebay does not support their sellers or stand by them when things go wrong. Fees increase but the customer service is worse. I was hoping to use this a retirement income but am exploring other things. This was a great video, TU

Sounds like we agree on many things when it comes to how Ebay does things! Although, we have not had any scams occur. Reason for a return false? Yes, once. Selling on eBay to supplement our retirement is a great option. At least we don’t have to be on someone else’s schedule. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you well!

You guys are inspiring! Love at first sight! ❤ I want to start reselling but not enough to have a store. I'm differently abled (a.k.a. disabled < I despise that word) at 63 and on SSD. I am a little afraid to start Ebay selling as to not get embedded too deep. To make things a bit worse is that I have worked at a thrift Shop for the last 13 years and have never left after a shift withOUT purchasing something unique, interesting, pretty or vintage with my 25% discount of course. Its time to think about not working as it has started to become physically challenging. The income from reselling would take the place of my employment income or at least some of it. What would you suggest? 😀
@AvanteAvenue
@AvanteAvenue 2 ай бұрын
Him. What would I suggest? I suggest you get your feet wet and start reselling before you leave your current job. There’s a lot to learn and that takes time. Although it appears you do not want to trade one job for another, if you want to make money, as in anything, it’s going to take some time and effort. Reselling on eBay has enabled me save my Social Security check. I can’t imagine not having the Ebay income. My best advice is start now. Even if it’s just one or two things a week. We honeymooned in CF 20 years ago! Yes, Mark retired at 50 but in all fairness, he’s still working on something. Just like, I left my steady job at age 40, but I’m still working on something. Thanks Amber!

I’m so glad I found your channel; y’all are my favorite resellers! I’ve considered myself a reseller for years but actually I’ve just been a hoarder due to my life circumstances. I’ve a 20 year widow, 68, have two grandsons living with me, and I’m tired of working 2 jobs to barely get by. I’m inspired by your down to earth advice and ready to start reselling. Thank you from your Fayetteville, Tn friend!😀

Great video as always! Happy anniversary! Do you have a video to the inventory QR code you use? I’m interested in learning more about that system. TY for sharing your time and knowledge!

Thank you Marie! The system I have is a bit antiquated (could be better). I have a new QR code system I need to implement and make a video on it. I’ll try to get to that.

I say, take time away every couple of months, if not every month, do the things that you both want before one of you leaves this earth. I noticed that when I took time away from my store my sales increased. I think eBay took care of that. Thanks for the video.

This is a reselling channel, not a decorating channel but you might like this video. It’s our last week of Boot Camp and I gave a tour of our home and share about the many things that we’ve thrifted or purchased second hand. wk14 ebay Reseller BOOT CAMP in Retirement + New Seller + Our HOME Tour kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJfainZtjJqgY6s

So glad I found this! New subscriber. Trying to retire end of year and see lots of negative things about EBAY and how they side with buyers a lot of times. I also see a lot about people making returns for no good reason. I just don’t want the hassle. Is there another platform that you would recommend? I am retiring because it is just time….lol. I don’t want unnecessary frustration dealing with a platform that is not going to be supportive and cause stress. I want it to be fun, profitable and fulfilling. Thanks

Every platform has issues. Just more people sell on ebay (more buyers) so you’ll hear more complaints. We don’t have “returns or free returns” on our listings. It is an option, although a return can be forced on occasion. So no hassle there. ebay remains the best platform (more buyers). Watch my Mercari video. Its new changes are bad for buyers which ultimately hurts sellers. Poshmark is “mostly” clothing but we sell occasional hard goods. Basically, there is no perfect platform. Be the best seller you can be (photos, condition and description) and you’ll prevent or reduce any unnecessary frustration. Hope that helps Teresa!

Yes returns have increased in clothing and hard goods. I just changed to no returns for everything.

Regarding the "private listing"...I got to thinking. It may not display in the feedback area but if you go to your sold listings...anything with a line thru it is best offer taken. Now as a reseller, I tend to look at what other people have for sale and what they sold and for what but perhaps a regular buyer wouldn't?

No other buyer should be able to see “private” listing details. Otherwise, it would never be private. Hope that helps. Please let me know if you find out otherwise.
