There are many 20 years old who trust me and lookup for my advice So this letter is for that 20-year-old who is crumbling under the stress and strain of upskilling, MBA degree, UPSC preparation, and endless courses being offered online
I will also take GGI-related questions in comments- about the mindset on accreditation, collaborations, partnership, and the experience I want this full-blown thread to be devoid of personal enmity and for someone who is confused about life ahead (especially about what degrees to choose)
There can be few who might take offense to my views - and rightfully so You have invested a lot of money, emotions, and time in pursuing certain degrees Degrees since time immemorial have been a gateway for the middle class But in true honesty, I don’t think many of these degrees are relevant I’m sorry, but those are my view I’d be happy to be proved wrong
Now here goes my message- I will never advise my younger siblings to take debt and enroll in a program because it provides a degree And therefore, I can never advise my LinkedIn community too
1 First thing first- Is an MBA degree worth it
A If you are admitted at Wharton, Harvard (or Indian Equivalents) - it is worth the investment
At Harvard, you might cumulatively pay around 1-2 crores At ISB - it may range around 30-40 Lakh And it is worth it
You will be on your toes for 1-2 years in a fast-paced ecosystem You will learn to throw great parties, and value startups being pitched at those parties
• Reality of Indian Stud...
B But if you are paying a similar amount for a degree from newly formed MBA schools in Gurgaon, or random European Schools just because they have a campus - it can be really hard to justify your choices
The goal of an MBA experience is 3 fold - to prepare you for the job of your dreams, to provide opportunities that will prepare you to get skilled in certain industries, and then to create a valuable network around you (for the rest of your lives)
C Many B-Schools are money minting machines in the name of the physical campus It is not their fault as well since that has been the conventional method of teaching and campus can have its own value Moreover, the government requires them to build it so that they can confer degrees
So if you are not able to get into the Harvard/Stanfords/ISB and their counterparts across the globe- I would advise you to work hard on your GMAT, Profile, and experiences before settling in for a random business school Life will be hard - especially when you take big loans for such degrees
2 Do we confer degrees at GGI
A We will never confer degrees at GGI It is against our mission Conferring degrees will make it difficult for us to keep innovating curriculum, learning outcomes, and products with changing market dynamics It also allows us to keep our costs down, allowing us to provide an Alternative to International MBA at 1% of the cost, making quality business education truly accessible
B However, we have a strong alumni network - and to my knowledge, it is one of the kindest and most purposeful networks Many in this network have helped each other out during the highs and lows They have helped each other crack interviews, give referrals, and many have joined hands to launch startups
Many GGIians who desire the formal recognition - end up attending INSEAD, Wharton, Tuck, ISBs And they perform really well in their endeavors And we, as a community, are super proud of them They always come back, and give back to the community
C In fact, we are partnering with ISB’s Bhartiya Institute of Public Policy for their work in administrative reforms with the highest office in our country, we have also partnered with Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy for their excellent program in International Affairs
We collaborate with these universities because their mission aligns with ours, and also we trust that these brands will add real value
However, my goal at GGI will always be to make sure GGIians get access to similar job roles that they would get after their Harvard MBA We are able to accomplish this at a mini scale in Management Consulting, Public Policy, and Product Management We are also trying to explore associations for Impact Investing and Venture Capital roles- as we grow in the journey
4 Would you be recruited by BCG/McKinsey/World Bank after GGI
Absolutely not
Even at ISB, Tuck, and Insead- not everyone who enrolls joins Top Consulting Firms At GGI, we can’t promise you these jobs, will never promise, nor we have ever promised these jobs We can, however, promise - to work along with you to nurture a life-transforming experience of learning, growth, and a kind community
GGI is a long-term mission for us for the coming 10 years and beyond However, in the next quarter, the goal is to work extra

Politics matter. It is extremely important that educated youth becomes part of the political and policy ecosystem. As long as you take pride in being “apolitical”, you will always be governed by your inferiors. This is the precise reason why politics matter. It is extremely important that educated youth becomes part of the political and policy ecosystem. Because if you do not participate in politics, you will always be governed by your inferiors. Great line “ if u do not u will be governed by inferiors! Reminds me of a joke that was circulated among Indian diaspora ( which applied to graduates before 1980 or if u stretch before 1990) A grader becomes doctors & engineers B graders become scientist accountants etc C graders become businessmen D graders become politicians F those who fail become GOD MEN and rule all above.

Aspiring to be a bueraucrate but still not against the lateral entry concept because I think people like Naman have the potential which can be used in very synoptic manner. It will be a cherishing moment for al the misfitsians to see Naman entering into public policy formulation and heading it as secretary level .❤

Here's my learning. 1. GGI is more global than Masters Union. At the base of Masters Union lies LPU, GGI on the other hand is backed by Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. That is one reason why GGI is also more global in terms of scholars. 2. GGI's output is largely in the domains of Management Consulting, Impact Investing, Product Management, and International Affairs. One reason is that founders have close links with McKinsey, UN, and BCG- Much easier for them to get access to their organizations to collab. Masters Union is more about Startup exits. If you are thinking of exiting in Startups - MU can make more sense. But if you are thinking of above mentioned roles GGI Makes more sense. 3. GGI has global masterclass speakers - this is because of their access to Fletcher, and Harvard. MU has more India centric speakers - if your goals are more India focussed MU may make sense. 4. GGI has better community vs. MU - the reason is MU select everyone and anyone who applies. At the end of the day, alumni network becomes very important. In this scenario GGI wins. GGI is older, and has much better and more glaob alumni network. 5. GGI is like a mixture of MBA + MPP + International Affairs + Technology. MU is more startup focussed. If you are very clear that you want to do a startup - MU could be the way ahead. But if you are a little confused, and want to learn multple aspects, GGI could be the solution. 5. The Biggest of all : MU is terribly expensive - 30 Lakh, GGI costs less than 70 thousand - this is because GGI is a social impact venture - whereas MU is a proper business. A business that is backed by investors, and a business where there will be exits, and more focus on financial returns. GGI on the other hand has always positioned itself to be social impact driven. Let me know what you think

Inquisitive by your views, Naman sir and Shatakshi mam. I have been following you both for about five to six months now and love your content and topics. In regards to the video today, I'd like to tell you that as of right now, I am in my third year of undergraduate Computer Science and have been working on soft development for the past three years. I will be joining the company in my upcoming college placements . In fact, I watch a lot of videos and podcasts related to economics, policy, business and all that. Despite enjoying core soft development, I do not want to make my career in core soft development. I would like to combine both tech and economics and would love to work on intersection of both. What should I do as a 21 year old in order to build a strong foundation to qualify for curriculums like tech policy in the future?

Naman, after failing in UPSC for two times.. I've started applying for public policy courses after watching your old podcasts (a one with priyanka soni). Recently, I got an offer letter from University of Western Australia.. in public policy and governance course.. I have also applied to two more Group of 8 Universities in Australia: MONASH and University of Queensland.... I think I shouldn't infer from this video that MPP courses are totally utter waste of time.. My question is simple. Is it good to pursue MPP course in above mentioned universities ?? Or Stanford and Harvard are the only great places to pursue public policy.?

Hello Sir, I’m truly aligning myself with your perspective on the role of technology in public policy and foreign affairs. With an academic background in the pharmaceutical field, I’m interested in understanding how tech policies might impact the pharma industry. Could you provide some insight into the potential future for pharma professionals in this area and explore possible options for us?

I don't know know about students but a lot of my colleagues/ working professionals went outside India. Out of 108 batch less than 20 people remain in India(nitk). And from masters batch of 11(IITR) only 4 people are in India. Reason no benefit for tax paid and zero quality of life. Now most of them are in foreign and I did visit few of them over last 8 years, they are happy paing 42-49 perc tax there as they get a lot of benefits in return and overall quality of life is much much higher than India. But after this joke of a budget 2024 I will be leaving by next year and similar sentiments of around 10 more of my friends. For context most of my friends left once they started earning north of 40-50 lpa, with annual tax liability of 12-15 lakhs. And India will keep on loosing talent as govt here cares more about giving freebies to their respective votebanks than to develop proper infrastructure and give actual taxpayers any meaningful benefits.

I don't buy on degrees are irrelevant. If somebody wants to become doctors, lawyers, nurses, nuclear engineering, chemical engineer, aeronautical engineer then degree is must because you cannot learn these stuffs in youtube independently.

Please also look into leading researchers opinions on AI rather than just standard bearers coronated by the media, ie Elon or Zuck. The leading researchers (eg Yann Le Cunn) have called all this hand wringing over AGI baseless. Note Yann actually built the 1st usable CNN (NN = neural network)

The title should be how every political party in India wants to remain in power 😂 Because any political party in India can go to any extent for power and position And who we have as prime minister is a smart man But when we look back it appears that the current trend is more into modelling people and their agenda But our people have short memory syndrome How can we forget emergency and air force planes being used for election campaign By Italian leaders of our country 😂😂😂

Maybe the example she gave isn't perfect, but she was primarily trying to say that AI needs regulation, which is correct. ChatGPT used to give easy instructions to make bombs if asked differently in its earlier models. Later on, regulations were made against that. Same with the case of racism, sexism, etc..
