Am I the only one who thinks it would’ve made more sense if Phase 4 of the MCU opened with the Fantastic Four’s origins instead of reheated leftovers from Phase 3? Not only would this have given the team an actual introduction into Earth-199999, but Reed would’ve filled the void left by Tony as “snarky genius man who thinks highly of himself who learns to get over himself” and leading with the First Family would’ve made it clear that everything from Phase 4 and onward would be different from the Infinity Saga. But they waited too long, and now we’re forced to slot them in a faux-retro universe because there’s no way to put them in post-Endgame Earth-199999 without opening up some Eternals aah questions about where they were during Thanos’s invasion. Granted, they probably had plans for Phase 4 going back to 2015 (since that’s when Infinity War/Endgame would’ve been written) before the All-New, All-Different stuff flopped hard in the comics, so I doubt they could’ve actually done F4 in Phase 4.

I actually would have preferred the Fantastic Four to have been more grounded. There is nothing wrong by having a less connected story. Having each movie being about saving not a city or even a country but rather the whole world every time is actually quite silly. Two of the street level characters, Spider-Man and Miss Marvel both had to go to space after their more humble introductions. No wonder teams like Fantastic Four have to push the boundaries even further.

Jess I think you’re a little misinformed about why they decided to place this film in the 1960’s. Matt Shakman talked about how he wanted to incorporate elements of the 60’s space race into the movie and give homages to the likes of Alan Shepard & Neil Armstrong, also the founding of NASA which was only a couple of years before the decade started. F4 and the 60’s go hand in hand imo, like spider-man in New York or Batman in Gotham, I believe certain characters are at their most storytelling potential whenever they’re designated to a specific time period and the fantastic 4 movie being set in the 60s is like a slam dunk.
@jonah45883 күн бұрын
I don't think they're going with the 60’s vibe because they're embarrassed by the property. I think it’s to pay tribute to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Fantastic Four paved the way for other Marvel properties. While the other movies had no respect for the characters and their origins, it feels like this movie is made to respect the property. Why does every intellectual property need to be modernized?
@ddog223 күн бұрын
that’s what kind of had me thinking that she doesn’t really read comic books or keep up with the comic book lore. The F4 have been rooted in the 60s aesthetic for decades now for a reason, it coincides with the space race of the 60s and the forming of nasa.

Pedro is a horrible casting decision! He doesn’t have the personality or chops to pull off being the smartest man in the Universe, and he doesn’t resemble Reed in the least (he didn’t even think it was necessary to shave his mustache!) Sue and Johnny seem good, but Thing’s voice should be different than Ben Grimm’s, and he is way too small. He is supposed to the able to go toe-to-toe with the Hulk, but he’s shorter than Reed and Sue?!?

I actually liked how how Pedro played Maxwell Lord, out of his characters. Not a great -Maxwell Lord-, but I loved the cheese and enthusiasm, as well as the desperation. I think he had a lot of range in that role. I think he might be able to give us a good Reed, but it will come down to the writing. He could easily just phone it in if not properly written and directed.
@NoirNameless5 күн бұрын
Biggest thing for me is the cast. I keep saying that they only chose Pedro for Reed because they needed something to divert attention away from how bad the mcu looked in November 2023. Marvels was flopping, and variety wrote a hit piece about why the mcu is failing and everyone was agreeing. They needed something that could shock people, so they called the biggest name they could think of, and casted him and it backfired. I’m so glad I’m not the only one that really doesn’t like that choice. Especially when you consider there were better people in the running for the role.

This was probably the first time I've felt excited for a Marvel movie since Guardians of the Galaxy 3. But if the thing about Pedro Pascale is true, then people really need to call that out. It reminds me of how they used to cast at least one person of color that was really light in skin tone so they wouldn't alienate white people while still "trying" to be diverse. Now they're doing the reverse!

Things I liked: The 60s feel The Music The Family Galactus isn't a fart cloud Johnny going to space and not being on fire because there's no air even tho it's not how it works, because he should be dead but it looks cool. Things I didn't like: Ben's voice Sue and Reed are way too old for their origin story. I could see them being parents. Pedro Pascal as Reed, they didn't even change his hair to match the 60s style. In case you forgot they changed Silver Surfer to be a woman. Galactus had a female work for him but she's not as popular as Silver Surfer and Marvel/Disney is lazy. All I can say is, we have to wait and see.

I think this film may occur after the Fantastic Four have already been established heroes in their universe, so it's probably not going to be an origin story (and explains why they're all older than their comic counterparts). I think the "First Steps" refers to them taking their "first step(s) into a larger world" (referring to heading into space and into the multiverse), to borrow a phrase from Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I don't know when exactly Americans decided that "white" means pale, blonde and blue-eyed, but that's only what Germanic and some Slavic people look like, not the majority of Europe. A comment on Pedro Pascals acting: There's a reason everyone loves The Mandalorian S1 & 2, and the main reason is because of the "Mandalorian". He's a badass and Pedro Pascal embodies him perfectly. Sure Mando is mostly emotionless but when it comes to Grogu you can HEAR it in his voice, the care and love he has for him. He shows his face 2 times in Mando Season 1-2 and each time he did, the facial acting on display was simply professional. I was in tears when Luke took The Child. Wonderwoman: 1984 was a piece of shit but one of the highlights was actually Pedro's performance. Idk if it's just me but his character kinda had this Fallout character feel to it, and he was a joy to watch on screen. The Last of Us: ....Come on man, do I gotta say anything about this one. I don't know if u watched this one JesterBell but watch episode 1 and then say he's not a good actor. Sarah's death scene my guy. BTW if any of u haven't watched the show, it's great and I think u should I haven't seen Gladiator, I can't speak on that, but I will say I am getting tired of seeing him in like every movie nowadays. However there's a reason for it, he's a class actor
