It always amazes me how this group is performing a song in such a beautiful and impeccable way, so professional, something I would pay hundreds of dollars to watch so close, and folks are just stuffing their pie hole and talking to each other. Cmon man.

The fossils had all known him from 20-30 years. He joined the Mustangs when Sammie was 6 .He enjoyed the great female vocalists and brought the foxes lots of ideas for songs they should try. He was always up on the latest hit songs/groups as well.

Having just read an article that noted Scott King's passing, my thoughts flashed back to this song, and the amused look on Scott's face when Sammie springs the surprise lyric change about Maggie's then impending departure for college. It shows just how much the Fossils enjoyed working with the Foxes in those earlier days. I never had the pleasure to see any live performances, and in my seventies would have a hard time justifying driving from Jersey to Georgia just to hear a band. However, as one who has been banging a gong to direct people to listen to F&F for a couple years now, it saddens me to know of Scott's passing and the loss all the F&F members are feeling. Rest in peace, Scott.

Scott was a big fan of powerhouse female vocalists and introduced the girls to a lot of music. "Oh, you gotta do this one" He was always up to date on the latest, Sammie said she remembered being so pleased when he asked her if she had heard of Haim and she actually had before he did!

How sad is to hear this. I come pretty often to see this very live performance because I admire "what's going on" throughout the whole song (the harmonies firstly, but then all the instruments and how they blend), and as it is incredibly well recorded -especially for a live performance - the bass and its behind-the-lines notes add so much to the blend. Something that non-musicians often times don't notice. And that's the bassist achievement above everything. Recquiescat in pacem. ✌🏻

How in God's name did they pull off such beautiful music in a parking lot?? Singing into storefronts, with traffic going by and people walking their dogs.... I'm just amazed at the incredible artistry and musicianship, triply so under these conditions. Such a clean, gorgeous sound. Major props to their video/audio producer. This is my favorite F & F tune. Must have watched it 20 times or more and keep coming back to it. First, it's a very well written country-pop song. It's so incredibly in-the-pocket by the backing musicians. The vocal harmony is unbelievably tight. And Sammy, oh Sammy. The song is perfect for her, and she sings it like it just happened to her. As it is sort of happening to her: Maggie is about to leave for college, so she changes the last lyric, so that emotion comes right through. Totally amazing. Plus she is so wholesome, natural and gorgeous. :-)

Watching the sequence of Maggie's reaction is very funny. She's confused at first, not exactly sure if what she's hearing from Sammie is what she's hearing, then glances at Tim, who's probably smiling at her, which tells her, "yep, it's what I'm hearing," then gives one last glance back at Scott wondering if he's in on it too, and his stare right at her pretty much tells the story. They're all in on it! Got her!

This is my favorite of theirs, and I cycle through more than 60 of them every couple of weeks. And check out the lyrics! F&F have so many others that are stupendous, but this piece is unique. Sammie puts you right into the scene of an unwilling, unwanted, heartbreaking parting. - RH, age 68, Prague

Great comments and I agree with the numerous compliments about the quality of the vocals but the videography is excellent also, focusing on the right areas at the right time and capturing Maggie's smile at that moment when it could easily have been lost. Great work with the cameras...

This performance is such a wonderful recording of the love musicians get to share with each other, and well executed, as we've still come to expect from Foxes and Fossils. Well mixed, too. I'm willing to listen to this rendition 36,246 more times to get it to a million views. Anyone else? My ears can use the candy.

@@lynwessel2471 Hi Lyn. I'd heard or read somewhere that Maggie was going to Nashville, which was why I mentioned the reference Sammie made. I had no idea it was the next day. I'm glad all of you are still able to get together as much as you can. You are all wonderful musicians and singers. I'm always happy to see any new F&F release. Thanks to all. :)

@@trancer100 I'm not with the band ,just a long time fan,and yes I hope they can keep playing together for a long time. With the internet they can do studio recordings without everyone there. On the latest one Maggie sent her tracks from Nashville and Scott has sent all of his on the new ones from Virginia Beach.

I never heard this song until now. I had no idea that Carrie Underwood did this song. That is a REAL SONG: it tells a real story that so many of us have gone through. I am a musician and the first thing that I did, at the end of this song was to play it again, and again, and...the song is SO WELL WRITTEN. And another thing I LOVE, being a musician NO PITCH CORRECTION!!! These people know how to sing, harmonize, know how to play their instruments, just really impressive; the first time I saw and heard this band was their cover of Suite: Judy Blue eyes. THAT WAS AMAZING! If you're a band and not at their level, keep rehearsing. Oh, and I laughed so hard, and felt soooo good when Sammie changed the lyric for Maggie and she looked completely surprized; and then have to sing harmony!!! Way to go, girl! That WAS IMPRESSIVE!!!

Had the fine F&F Letters to Cleo cover in my head. Took a listen and as is typical, I let the KZbins meander down the playlist of great Foxes and Fossils tunes. Look up, see Scott King in the background, and the melancholy of this song is turned up to 11. That last verse of the song always gets me teary when Sammie changes the lyric for Maggie, but now the whole song has caused waterworks. Thankful that there are many videos recorded for posterity for all of us to enjoy the magic that is F&F, but damn you cancer, you took a good one.
