I cannot believe that any song writer/performer, listening to this group perform a cover of their work, would not be blown away by the purity of their interpretation and performance. I really do not think there is any group I have ever listened to who have such an easy natural sound and yet be so technically proficient. There is not a note, word or cadence point out of place. Pure gold.

I first saw Bonnie Raitt perform this live in 1974 at the Tampa Jai-Alai Fronton. Saw her live another time. I've seen and listened to she, John Prine, and countless other artists perform this song over the following 46 years. This is the best version I have ever heard. The lead vocal was completely unique to any other artist's version, the harmonies were perfect, and the slide guitar was the best and most subtle I've ever heard played on this song.

@@darwinconort424 I have to agree with all my heart after listening to this countless times AND being a 62 year old Fossil myself and grew up with all this great music deeply tied to precious memories that I thank God to still have... BUT... There's something about Sammie's voice here AND that plus the arrangement totally reaches down deep, grabs hold and doesn't let go... Yes, this is the best version in my opinion... Thank all of you AND please stay safe and healthy...

I have said this before and I'll say it now, the members of this group are the best example of artists working together and producing a fine product! Great singing and playing as well as arrangements! I am a working bassist of many, many years who has played this tune with hundreds of artists and RARELY do they get the end of the chorus right! Paying homage and respect to the original artist is very important. And, if F&F find themselves in need of a bassit, please give me a shout.

The difference between an amateur and a professional is consistent excellence. Foxes and Fossils are as professional as it gets. Thank you all so much for another perfect song. As I was listening the meaning of the words became a reflection of our times. "Make me an angel that flies from Montgomery" I just saw all the nurses leaving their homes and their personal lives filled with love, pain, and memories to go be an angel for all of us. Perfect song for the times.

Kevin Fox, "... perfect song for the times." A John Prine trademark. Also, usually, not just for "the times", but for "all times". At least for the fifty years I've been hearing them. One of my favorite lines in any song ever is, "Any old song by brother John Prine" in "Some Things Never Get Old", written by Tia Sillers and sung by Vince Gill. EDIT: "written by Tia Sillers"

Saw Bonnie Raitt live at the Orpheum in Memphis about ‘76. Just before the end of her first set she told us she would like to bring out a friend of hers to do the next song with and that, as a matter of fact, he wrote the song. John Prine stepped out and they did a beautiful rendition of “Angel From Montgomery”. This is the best I’ve heard since. Yes, the vocals were excellent and heart felt but I would also like to tip my hat to the fossils. The men in grey just killed it. Wonderful.

Great tribute to the awesome John Prine. THANK YOU to Foxes & Fossils! Keep'em coming! Angel From Montgomery , by John Prine I am an old woman named after my mother My old man is another child that's grown old If dreams were lightning, thunder were desire This old house would have burnt down a long time ago Make me an angel that flies from Montgomery Make me a poster of an old rodeo Just give me one thing that I can hold on to To believe in this living is just a hard way to go When I was a young girl well, I had me a cowboy He weren't much to look at, just free rambling man But that was a long time and no matter how I try The years just flow by like a broken down dam Make me an angel that flies from Montgomery Make me a poster of an old rodeo Just give me one thing that I can hold on to To believe in this living is just a hard way to go There's flies in the kitchen I can hear 'em there buzzing And I ain't done nothing since I woke up today How the hell can a person go to work in the morning And come home in the evening and have nothing to say Make me an angel that flies from Montgomery Make me a poster of an old rodeo Just give me one thing that I can hold on to To believe in this living is just a hard way to go

@@trackie1957 You can say it’s “pointless” but the comments I’m reading : the overwhelming majority of people prefer Sammy’s version over all the others that are out there- personal preference is what it comes down to, and to that, it’s “pointless” to try to change someone’s personal preference.

I went to Baton Rouge in 2019 to see James Taylor with Bonnie Raitt, she did this song solo it was fantastic. You have stirred every emotion I have felt since the death of John Prine. Bravo great job.

Tim, if you never played or sang another note of music, you could probably make a pile of money producing, engineering, mixing, and mastering for other artists in your own studio. Your work with F&F is as clean as anything I've ever heard coming out of the big production houses anywhere in the country. But, please don't stop anytime soon. I never tire of your and the band's excellent work. This was just another superb example of your genius! Keep 'em coming, brother. Your huge, and growing by leaps and bounds, fan base appreciate you and the band more than you know.

When Sammie started singing I couldn't see the video. Dust in my eyes I guess. John Prine meant a lot to me. Thank you for doing this song. Those of us distant not in his inner circle have no means of grieving and Celebrating his life other than a full night of his videos. I can only imagine that J.P. would be very impressed and Grateful. You all did this song perfectly! Best Wishes. M.H.

This one has been hiding from me for apparently, going on a year. So glad it popped up on my “you’ll dig this, for sure” list. That was just absolutely beautiful. Good job everyone.....and to Sammie in particular. The word “disappoint” just does not exist with you guys. It’s ALWAYS a pleasure! This is for Sammie.....🌹

I can't think of another band where literally any one person can sing lead, and there's no drop off in the song. I'm blown away at how talented this band is; all the way from the instrumentals, engineering, to the vocals. It's all at a professional level. A+ 👏👏👏👏

I first heard John sing this one (and "Hello in There," "Illegal Smile," etc.) in 1971. I've loved lots of John's performances and lots of very wonderful covers, including Bonnie's, of course. This is simply as fine a performance of "Angel" as anyone has ever done.
