Tim Purcell is some kind of music production genius. Can you believe how good F&F songs sound, even when they are done outside on a pizza parlor patio. Sammie's energy and style make "Crazy" one of my favorites. Darwin's solo is really nice too.

Was just thinking the same. Like when I first stumbled on Judy blue eyes. I suspect there is a lot of expensive equipment, editing, & mixing done before these videos end up on youtube. But you can’t mix something into existence that isn’t there. It would be interesting to see & listen to what a cell phone recording from the venue sounds like, compared to this.
@lynwessel24717 ай бұрын
Sounds pretty poor compared to high quality mics inches from the sources on 16 channels properly mixed. There's a cellphone video or 2 of them out there somewhere on YT.
@dr.davidgerstenaminoacidth24216 ай бұрын
Yes it’s amazing how well these were recorded and how easy it is to hear every instrument and vocal. I don’t know that I’ve heard that quality outside of a studio recording.
@lynwessel24716 ай бұрын
@@dr.davidgerstenaminoacidth2421 Basically the same recording method as studio, except everything at once, one take. The key is going thru the mic tracks individually and muting them when they're not in use to get rid of everything except what supposed be there. Tim and Toby say that noise gates could be used but they can clip off the first part of the note and they'd rather do it manually for the best sound quality.They were using high quality but not overly expensive gear at the time, just using it correctly. The Mustangs was his professional band so he needed good equipment, and this little band for the girls benefited and got 'KZbin famous'.

Reading a lot of comments here about how F&F should be playing this or that other kind of venue, should do this or that or the other thing. Cracks me up! I played in several bands over the years. I played music professionally for over 3 decades, part-time. It was a side gig that I loved. I played my trumpet mostly, but I also play keyboards, guitar, bass, drums and Latin percussion, harmonica, melodica, Irish Tin Penny Whistle, Vietnamese mouth harp and the Humbucker Electric Kazoo (yeah, that's a real thing - haha), along with singing to boot (backup vocals mostly). First band I was in was on the Gulf Coast, out of Mobile, Alabama. I was just sitting in with a piano player at a bar, blowing a few tunes on my trumpet. Somebody called somebody and then somebody came and I was suddenly in a band. ;-) It was a 7 to 8 piece band and we mostly did private parties. The keyboardists who owned that band also ran a booking agency. We got good gigs and they paid pretty well, but it wasn't something that anybody could make a living at, except the owner of the band himself. I also played in the Mobile City Big Band and some kind of modern Christian Band for a short time. I moved back to my home state of Missouri, dropped in and played at a blues jam in a local bar in the college town of Columbia, Missouri. A guy walked up to me after I played like 3 tunes, with me improvising on each of the blues numbers. He asked me, "Do ya wanna be in a band?" I said, "Sure!" Over an 18 year period of time, I played about 13 of those years, taking breaks from the band from time to time due to my real business and my young family's needs. It was a 6 piece band that had three horns. We did covers with just 2 or 3 originals that the owner of the band wrote. That band, too, was owned by the one guy - he was the drummer and lead singer. Even he didn't make a full time living at it though. In his case he gave drum lessons and eventually got a job with the City of Columbia, Parks and Recreation Department, running a drum corp and some other activities for the youth. Along the way, while still with that band, I and a friend of mine started our own blues band where I played trumpet and keyboards, along with singing backup vocals. I have sat in with some famous folks. Bands I was in opened for some famous folks and one time opened for John Lee Hooker and he made us stay out there for three tunes with us, giving me, the trumpet man, the nod on all three songs to play improvised trumpet solos. He was diggin' on my trumpet playin' he told me backstage after the gig. What an honor having a blues legend tell a 27 year old trumpet player, at the time, that I was "Damned good!" Now, I will end all of this saying that I loved every minute of my playing gigs for almost nothing for over 3 decades. ;-) The old joke is this: What is the definition of a professional musician? ANSWER: A guy that is willing to put $5000 worth of equipment into a $500 car and drive 100 miles to do a $50 gig. ;-) The F&F people do what they do because they love doing it. Plain and simple. ;-)

Watch her grow up by sorting the videos oldest to newest. The oldest are from 2009 under a white tent, actually a Mustangs show before F&F formed. Her first stage performance. The first F&F show was the dozen 2010 videos at Bella's Pizzeria. 2011, 2012 and 2013 are collections of videos from a single show each year, filmed at the now-closed Smyrna location of the Twisted Taco chain. 2014 is a simple pair of videos, plus two more from the Mustangs. 2015 is the first featuring Chase. 2016 is a single video featuring Chase. This one right here is one of only two from the (last live) F&F show in 2017. Then in late 2019 they pick up again with the studio videos.
